Clairette (studio): From magnum; soaked cork with expired bloom on top. A tall aromatic stack leads with curious red praline fossils imbricated with intense nutshell. Fog, forest mushrooms, scotch wool, iced/mint coastal air. A determined spine of resin organizes the experience, stained with glycerin acidity. Drink now-2040. 94-95. ________ 24 hours later, somehow it improved—trending dry, aerosol in flavor, and unified/coherent.

Northern Rhone theme at Empire: Didn't have a northern Rhone white on hand so made do with this. Dark golden colour but in no way oxidised. Aromatic and round but not lacking in tension despite the low acidity. Interesting to see a wine with hazelnut and toffee notes displaying salinity at the same time, very good depth. Wasn't sure what to expect with this since I haven't had much experience with Provence whites but definitely exceeded expectations.

Unique, complex, outstanding wine from indigenous grapes that brought back great memories of living nearby and doing the harvest at this property when young. Decanted and served, it has a golden color and was delicious immediately but opened up for the next hour or so. A big wine with a viscous, oily mouthfeel, it can handle full-flavored and rich dishes. Very floral aromas, with hints of honey and white fruits, and a very long, bittersweet finish. Will age for many more years.

Stellar wine and very unique. Lots of life left. The bouquet and the palate are a Mediterranean garden in your face. Really dang good. Held its own on an evening where Krug, de Montille, Chave and Dujac were also on the table.
