I have tasted this wine several times before. With this bottle, the wine was deep purple with no hint of brown. It had a bouquet and flavor that started with definite herbal notes but evolved to moderately sweet tobacco. It was better than my previous bottles, with more balance and nuance, and a nice finish. It was a prototypical Bordeaux.
- Purple color - Just starting to enter its own, tons of cedar and leather upon opening and just a background of the dusty tannins lingering on the finish. This has come so far since my first bottle opened upon release. Saved 150 mL and tasted 2 days later and found it dominated by fruit with just a hint of the complexity upon opening, but still lingering dusty tannins on the finish.
Stored in a cold cellar since release. Cork broke in two (me?). Neck fill. Perfect condition. Tried a 1995 to see how vintage was developing. Clearly no hurry to drink 1995s. Still young but just ready. Tannin, good fruit and balance. An undoubted Margaux. Better than expected for chateau I seldom drink. Drink to 2025+ if properly cellared.
