Four hours of aeration in wide-bottom decanter and despite that, this still needed to unpack a few bits and pieces. Served side-by-side with the '18 Ormes de Pez, I preferred the latter, though in five years I'll not be surprised if those opinions reverse and the Kirwan is my choice. Either way, it's kind of splitting hairs as they're both quite good. For the $50 at release, this is good, but the Ormes at just $30 takes first place as the value proposition. Has a good future. recommended

Dark reddish-purple garnet in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruits aromas of dark cherries, cassis & plums with overtones of floral & dusty/earthy notes, tea, spices, minerals & a touch of oak in the background. Medium bodied with a good concentration of balanced, smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums with herbs, minerals, spices & vanilla/oak. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but should develop further with additional aging.

Medium+ ruby color, high viscosity with very long legs, medium intensity, beautiful floral nose with hints of cassis and pencil shavings. Palate has blackcurrants, dark ripe fruit, cedarwood and spice cake, even slight alcohol burn. Very firm and grippy tannins that will take years to soften, already shows promise but will improve as time goes by.

Blackberry essence, fresh, full but not hot despite the 14.5% ABV. The details seem somewhat smudged. 43 CS, 29 M, 15 CF, 13 PV.

Nice nose of black fruit and vanilla... Ripe black fruit and a bit harsh tannin.
