  • Quite lovely. I'm still not too excited about the new range of RP reps. I think Monica Lerner rated this 94. In RPs old days it's probably an 88. Complex and long with sweet black cherry and leather flavors. I poured maybe a glass into a 1/4 bottle left of a 2014 Franc-Mayne, creating a 2014/2017 Merlot dominated super tuscan. THAT was fab.

  • Sangiovese (Brunello) of vineyards rich in limestone, clay, Pliocene sands, mixed with volcanic stones, located in the village of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, very close to Mount Amiata. It ferments in concrete and has aging of 36 months in barrels of 16-33-54 hl of Allier oak. Ripe red and black fruit, balsamic, spices, undergrowth, dense, silky, creamy, delicious, elegant, long and persistent. Beautiful wine!

  • I had the wine with risotto and garlic marinated lamp filet.
    The wine does really deliver.
On the nose i find notes of black berry , balsamic notes , some single red fruits / berries , tar , wood.
On the palate i find black berry , balsamic vinegar notes , tar , licorise , tannins are really enjoyable. One thing to note though is that i opened the bootle at noon took at glass , and then decanted the wine 6 hours later , after that it continues to develop for at leats 1,5 hour which is the mark where i type this.
Had the wine in Grassl 1855.

  • Oddly wine level 3 inches below neck. Just bought recently (other bottles fine). Almost looked like Coravin theft (in store?) but bottle tasted completely off so I assume bad cork?

  • Although the 2017 vintage in Montalcino was average at best, this wine took me by surprise. Garnet with high aromatics of desiccated reds, blacks and purples with earthy underbrush, savory prosciutto, briny black olive, shoe leather, brandy liqueur and crushed sandstone. Medium bodied and supremely layered with good acid and a fine razors edge tannic backbone. Decanted for 12 hrs.
