What's new in northern Rhône (Neubiberg): This is more about potential, since this wine is in its embryonic phase. The bouquet offers typical Cornas notes which you get offen with Syrah on granite. Besides the darker cherries, there is olive tapenade, herbs, pepper and cassis. The palate is quite coiled up and needs at least 5 years to probably get into the first drinking window. Kudos to Vincent, this is a legendary Geynale in the making.

Dark purple color. Nose of dark olives, bacon, smoke. Serious matter on the palate, dark fruits, olives, tar. Smooth, but marked tannins. This is a baby, but the material is substantial and great. Plenty of local feel. Might be the best Geynale from Vicent Paris yet. Wait 5 years at least, 10 might be better.

HDH auction at avec River North (Chicago, IL): Paris is just getting better and better. This wine is extraordinary, even if it drinks just like a barrel sample. Crazy green olive notes with dark fruit and a bit of Paris polish -- a touch of barrique, but not in an overbearing modernist way. Yes, this is very ripe and almost certainly a product of the modern climatic conditions, but there's a restraint and sensibility here that I really like. I've (accidentally) skipped a few vintages of Paris for my own cellar and now have to figure out how to rectify that.

Very tight and very closed right now, but holy moly does this wine have potential!!! Single vineyard Cornas made from +100 year old vines growing on the sunny hillside of La Geynale. Pitch black in the center of the glass with a purple hue at the edge of the glass. The nose is packed with black and blue fruit - black berries, boysenberries and blue berries all come to my mind. Add black pepper, black olives and a little “farmers nose” of soured milk and dried meat. Was only allowed to buy 3 bottles on the estate…

Best Geynale yet, IMHO. Much more depth than usual, dark matter here, tar, tobacco, bacon, olives, iron. Muche better on day 2. 93++
