Community Tasting Notes (6) Median Score: 92 points

  • Mixed red and black fruits with a very prominent cracked black pepper note, as well as dusty herbs in the background. Palate is medium body with good acidity, and the pepper note continues into the finish. Fine powdery tannins are present but not obtrusive. A lighter and more elegant expression of Cornas, given the vintage. Overall not as good as the 2019 La Geynale, and definitely won't have the lifespan of that wine. But still very tasty, and I'm happy to have a couple more bottles.

  • No score as I don't know how to score this wine now.

It has the right flavors: olive tapenade, burnt rubber, reductive, blue fruit, acidity, greenness,l. It's medium-light on the palate, with longish finish. But it's not tasty. It's lean and mean, the fruit is playing hide and seek, the finish is stony.

After 2 hours in the decanter, there is a hint of sweetness that comes out in the nose, but the palate is still not very giving. It seems like it doesn't have the body or mid-palate to connect all the flavors together, so it tastes thin and disconnected.

Perhaps it's a good representation of what 2021 is like, and I think this wine is intellectually interesting and will improve with age, but it's not a vintage I would load up on.

  • Beautiful Syrah. I needed something to follow a big CduP at dinner, and it delivered.

Profound purple colour, nose of violets and pepper. Tannins are quite soft with a long aftertaste.

I’ll keep my other bottle for 3-5 years, to see how this can integrate. A bit over the top for my taste at this stage.

  • (at Avec - Chicago). Humph. I am a big fan of this wine and have purchased and drunk many vintages. I’m a bit on the fence with regards to the 2021. This bottle was unbelievably tannic with lots of herbs/green. Fruit was missing. Maybe this is really old school Cornas that needs 20+ years….but maybe not. (86++)

  • Powerful coffee crisp bar nose upon opening, very fun. Settles into a dark fruit and tar core, obviously still young, but the mocha element was a nice aspect.

I'd much rather drink this than Cote-Roties of comparable price.
