Hawkes Bay Tasting (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Medium minus intensity aromas of blackberry, savoury spice, a little meaty note, touch of pepper, slightly. Creamy notes, sour and tough on the palate with aa touch of ashiness. Nah.

Opaque purple colour. Café mocha and crème caramel nose with blackberry and cherry fruit in pursuit. Flavourful, medium-bodied palate with a glossy texture and a lengthy; fruity/oaky finish. 4/5

Florals, black fruit, black pepper - all as per the label. Silty tannin builds with air. In NZ this week and I’m liking the Kiwi Syrahs.
