The 1983 Kalin Cellars Pinot Noir Cuvée DD unwinds in the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, dried fruits, sandalwood and spices, followed by a medium-bodied, deep and concentrated palate animated by tangy acids and framed by powdery tannins. Somewhat reminiscent of a good 1972 red Burgundy, this starts out a little angular but fleshes out to offer more plenitude and mid-palate fat. Its considerable sediment mandates gentle service.

Surprising how bright the fruit still is! Incredible aromas of funky/sweaty earth mixed into the fruit. The palate is resolved and elegant. A truly memorable wine.

Christmas Day. At home at dinner (turkey feast) with K, Miranda, Dick, Florence, Keith and Paula. Mature brick ruby color, shading to orange at the rim. Viscous. Nose seems carmalized, maderized, but still pleasant. Quite forceful in the mouth, it still has a wallop of mouth-drying tannins, amidst coarse, earthy fruit. Bitter aftertaste. Certainly not very pleasant. 5-5-6-2: 68/100.

(Kalin Cellars Pinot Noir Cuvée DD) Bricking light medium red color with clear meniscus; mature Pinot, tart cherry and sour cream nose; mature, sour cherry, tart raspberry and Balsamic palate, a little too advanced in maturation for my taste; medium-plus finish
