  • A full bodied wine that is incredibly youthful. Smooth and symmetrical with a healthy lavishing of new oak. It’s lacking the density and nuance of its big brother, but it punches above its weight class. This needs several years to really hit its stride, but it’s so easy to drink now that you might have a hard time keeping it in your cellar. Drink or HOLD.

  • Deep ruby color. Pronounced aromas of black cherry, cassis, red plum, raisin, tobacco, blueberry, blackberry, vanilla, chocolate, tar, a bit of green bell pepper. Dry, full body, high yet soft tannins, med acidity, high alcohol, long finish. Feels a bit more restrained on the nose but it’s really rich on the palate, and hedonistic is the word that describes this wine very well. Mouthfeel almost reminds me of a Port. Fruits are very ripe and is borderline jammy. Given the very high abv and intensity of aromas, this would probably benefit from a few hours of decanting. Winemaker noted the wine has good acidity especially for a hot year, but I think acidity is still lacking. This wine is so praised that I had a bit too high expectation. Still a good wine though. Better after a few years but I doubt this can improve for 20/30 year. 83+

After a few hours of aeration, the wine tastes a lot more balanced. Fresher fruits and savory notes like meat loaf are uncovered and finish feels a bit longer. Yet alcohol is still there and it still doesn’t knock my socks off. 84+

Day2: the wine feels less rich and fruits characters shifted from ripe black cherry to strawberry jam. I like this better but I don’t see this as improvement from last glass yesterday. Bitterness from alcohol is more noticeable now.

  • Beautiful rich Washington cab. Plenty of punch to age for years. I’m glad I have five more. This is a great wine.

  • Have to tend to agree with the negative comments. Somewhat disappointed with thus blend. CVR is usually very good. This vintage was remarkable in its unremarkableness. Nothing stood out. Will see down the road.
