  • From mag. Slight bricking on rim with deep ruby color. Big lush nose of dark cherry and plum with leather, mushroom, forest floor, hints of savory spices. Palate was more of the same. Very balanced with soft tannins and acidity still present framing the dark fruit with a bit of rhubarb showing up toward the back of the palate. Long finish. Wish I had another mag!

  • (PY) Complex aromatics of ripe berries, Chinese herbs, earth, leather, sour plum and spices. The palate is quite structured with good concentration and chewy tannins.

  • Nose offers smokey black cherries, a hint of tamarind syrup and smoked oysters, anise, espresso. Wonderful, and more interesting than the palate right now. Rich, long, well balanced, perhaps even a few years young, seems stuck between primary red fruit, and the earliest hint of secondary flavors, a bit of cherry pipe tobacco, rusty iron, maduro wrapper, and warm peppery spice. Plenty of acidity and subdued tannin to age. I think this improves over the next five years and will still be interesting in 2028. In 2022, I’ll guess this will be a 95; tonight, a 93.

  • Tasted blind, this wine had a deep red center with orange rims. The medium+ intensity nose put forth cherries, rhubarb, and soil.

In the mouth, this wine had great richness, fine-grained acidity, and excellent length. This was Grand Cru quality!

Apparently, this was a late release bottle but I have no idea if that makes a difference. However, this is clearly a sleeper so something to watch for!
