Opened by Allred. I've had 20+ Burgundies from this producer but this was the first Clos de Beze that I recall. Medium red color with some bricking. Smooth texture. Notes of cherries and loam. Fine tannins. Drink now or in the short term. 91-92 points.

I thought it would be good to try this while the memory of the 1997 Dominique Laurent Chambertin-Clos de Bèze I opened a couple of weeks ago was still fresh in our minds.
Double decanted very quickly off its sediment before traveling to dinner with the group. Initial aromas of red fruit and cherry, florals and orange peel. The palate is soft and integrated, with flavors of cherries, orange peel and spice. Medium(-) finish. The bouquet became more muted and nondescript throughout the evening. Very pedestrian compared to the Laurent. Time to drink 'em up.

Opened by Allred at Praga offline with xhoser. Drink up if you have any. The nose was somewhat muted, but there was some baking spice and cinnamon and orange peel. The palate was dusty red fruit that was on the downhill side of life.

Platinum Tasting - 1997 Burgundy 1er and Grand Crus (Andre and Sabine's House, Mountain View, CA): Gorgeous nose. Somewhat sweet (A-). Gorgeous palate (A-).
My #5, Group's #8 (91 pts). Tasted blind.

Lovely nose, solid structure, disappointing finish. Fine, but a bit too filtered for a Gevrey; should be more powerful and solid. Still, enjoyable.
