Community Tasting Notes (6) Avg Score: 89.8 points

  • APPEARANCE: Rich in very fine sediment.
NOSE: Dusty, dried earth, corkwood, dried blackcurrant, blackberries, dried dark plums, hints of both smoke and liquorice. With some air; dried tobacco leaves and old leather. Intense, very earthy and quite singular nose, albeit in a nice way. (89-90p)
TASTE: Dried blackcurrant and dried dark plums. Some tar. Hints of liquorice root. Dry, with some remaining underlying fruitiness and fruity acidity. (88p)
FINISH: In the aftertaste the intensity of the taste starts to fade away very quickly, before plateauing out at a milder, less intense but much more elegant level which lasts for minutes. (91p)
OVERALL: Interesting, singular, different. And after 18 years still very much alive. TOTAL SCORE 89 points.

25.03.2023 Update: On day five the wine remains very much alive and is now moving toward a very delicate and almost juicy wild strawberry fruit both on the nose and palate. Bumping it up one notch: 90 points.

  • Fully mature at this stage, perhaps even a little tired, but nevertheless interesting to see where this has gone. Thicker in texture than in its youth, it now has a fully evolved dark cranberry/forest floor rusticty that's pretty appealing, and lifted by its moderate acid.

  • This is balanced and smooth Nebbiolo style wine with vanilla, cherries and spices on the nose leading to medium bodied taste with dark fruits and licorice. The finish is long and slightly mineral.
