Charlotte – Dme Chante Cigale 2006 Chateauneuf-du-Pape C : Dense red/brown with garnet rim. N: Damp earth and truffles. T: Kirsch cherry with woody notes and liquorice. Very warming and spicy and while there is a pleasing savoury/sweet balance the mid-palate is hollow and what’s left of any fruit disappears all too quickly leaving a marked astringency. Summary: While still giving pleasure, this is past it’s best and on the way down. Imo, best drunk at least 5/6 years ago, so consume any remaining stocks while what’s left of the fruit is still survives. 86pts

Nice 13 year old Chateauneuf-Du-Pape (65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault) although probably past its peak. Tastes of ripe cherry and olives, supple tannins.

Classic Chante Cigale, reflective of the vintage. Exotic (not spoofed), Persian, makes me think of Oriental rugs and HH Richardson. Nicely secondary, just a bit young for me, probably perfect in a couple years.

Not sure this is completely past its peak. Still fruity, full and voluptuous. Happy to drink it......
