Pausing for the Cause Fundraiser and Dinner (Obelix - Chicago IL): Small late night taste. Caramel apple from start-to-finish with good depth and weight. Not the most complex example of old Sauternes, but still fresh enough and wonderfully balanced. Much better vs last time tasted two years ago.

Wow, I don't drink a lot of mature Sauternes, and this was a reminder to do so. Fantastic layering and complexity of honey, caramel, golden raisin that is layered into still very fresh white fruits though the sugar is now modest. So very good.

Dessert from a group tasting where everyone brought something to enjoy.
Color/App: deep coppery-gold, nearing amber level. Apricot, honey, peach and caramel nose. Still fairly full-bodied with good acidity. Barley sugar & butterscotch, peaches & apricots and marzipan on the palate. Still a long, sweet finish with no drying. May not be in the realm of Y'quem or Fargues in '67 but still pretty damn nice!

Wine was properly stored from purchase upon release until consumed. Still spectacular. Has liquorized more than the last one we tasted a few years back. Amazing depth. Paired with a pear tart.

Seventeenth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Hughes House - Chicago IL): Should have been very good, but very dirty instead. And not in the good way.
