Bordeaux 2022 barrel tasting event (Papiersaal Sihlcity, Zürich): Main takeaways: 1/ Despite a considerable amount of hype, this came across as bi-polar vintage with for every insanely good wine at least one dead-on-arrival counterpart. 2/ High alcohol levels, over-extraction and cooked fruit appear to be common pitfalls. 3/ Top wines were 1. Figeac (98), 2. Brane Cantenac (97), 3. Les Carmes Haut Brion (96). Full list of 20 wines and scores in included in the tasting story.
Tasting note: Fruit of pear, grapes and lemon, fine layer of spice. Thick and creamy texture, but lacked the acidity to balance it. Will surely improve with time, but may easily require up to 20 years. Best case would be a 2001 situation, but not guarantee optimal balance will ever be reached.

Tropical fruit and plenty of flesh, but with lovely poise (much more than you might expect from such a hot vintage). Lowish acid, it's true, but it all works - still a highly attractive wine.

The roasted nut profile and strong sense of botrytis is all over the place here. With another sniff and swirl, you discover roasted apricots, pineapples, tangerine, vanilla, and a plethora of spices all soaked in honey. Concentrated, fresh, spicy, chalky, and long, the orange, mango, and pineapple finish delivers its pleasures with racy assurance. The wine was made from 100% Semillon for only the third time in the history of the estate. Drink from 2025-2060. 97-99 Pts.

Oktober. 100% Sémillon, 190g Zucker) Oh wow, was für eine Nase, das ist hochkomplex, Honig, Datteln, Dörraprikose, Mango und eine würzige Note, dazu geröstete Nüsse, grandios. Im Gaumen süss im Auftakt, eine gute Säure kontert, der Wein hat viel Druck ist opulent und zeigt doch Finesse, ich mag diese Opulenz im Kontext mit einer gute Säurestruktur, denn die Harmonie stimmt hier! Fast endlos im Abgang. Ein grosser Sauternes. (Verkostet "En Primeur" im April 2023 auf Château Pichon Longueville Baron) #primeurs22 www.vvWine.ch
