(Blind tasting BYO) Full, developed nose. Flowers and orange peel. Quite elegant. Some saffron. Balanced botrytis and citrus marmalade. Medium-fullish palate that is perfectly mature. Slightly dryish finish. Fresh and with balanced sweetness. Of medium intensity. Lacks that extra concentration and power that the really great have. Not for further cellaring.

(Blind tasting) Full, mature nose with apple pie, vanilla, cinnamon aromas. Good depth with added layers of medicinal, botrytis, dried fruit, wet stones and hints of saffron. Mature, not as sweet as some, medium body. Very elegant but lacks some oomph and power. This would have needed some more stuffing for higher marks. Not for further cellaring.

Opened to breathe for 1-2h in 1862. Unctuous golden caramel, spun sugar, melons, and tropical fruits. A gorgeous balanced sauternes, balancing the sweeter notes with subtle acid. Perfection with seared foie gras as a starter and later, with the cheese plate for dessert.

Classic Sauternes that is a little under powered (purchased at Canals in New Jersey in 2005). Creme Brulee with sweet notes of mango and crystallized sugar. Drink up.
