Deep garnet. Taste very dry like corked in the first 30 mins after decent. However, started to taste licorice after 50 mins. Opened up further after 1 hour. Became much smoother in 2 hours. However, not many variations afterwards. A bit over the peak but a good one at its price.

Looking at the Wine Searcher price history I am feeling pretty happy about my modest "investment" in this bottle. Of course that is irrelevant if the wine is no good, but I felt that this proved its worth. Deep garnet color, you could pick this out as a Bordeaux on the nose and the palate: traditional oak and cassis, maybe the former dominating the latter, moderate tannins, could age for quite a while.

Decanted for half an hour and poured back into the bottle. Beautiful reddish/purple hue, lovely nose of licorice, casis and a hint of leather - nose closed up over time though. Intially it was quite big and with a interesting long, tannic, aggresive finish. (Great legs). Over time the palate became more disapointing though, no mid palate and a bit thin. Medium bodied. Preferred this to the Ponestac which I found even thinner. Overall though, and despite its very modest price ($40 NZ) not earthy or tannic enough for my liking. Will see how it is on day two. Day 2: well this was interesting. I much prefer this on day 2. Nose still had a hint of leather and olives, licorice, but the palate became bigger, meatier, tannins more balanced with a nice chewy finish. Still a bit thin at the end though and didnt hit the back of the mouth at all ... but not bad. If it was $30 (NZ) or less I would certainly snap it up but at $40.. better to invest in some Australian Cab Sav perhaps...

Mature characters, leather, dark berries, well balanced acidity, dying fruit, a bit tired but not dead, drink now.
Small amout of deposit, consider decanter
