Screwcap. Very much in prime drinking window. Generous black fruit and cassis, nicely integrated with some spicy notes from the oak. Benefits from some time in a decanter.

Having been exploring American cult cabernets and Bordeaux in recent months, I found this Moss Wood very one dimensional and boring. This is true for most Moss Wood I have tried and I am beginning to think that either I am missing something or simply, Moss Wood on the whole is a decent drop but not a great one.
Plush, luscious, full of ripe fruits, it is also quite oak dominant. So it starts with a bang but then it fades away into angular structure, some funky cough like profile and a toasty finish. After a few hours, it remained the same but some olive notes emerged and touch of earthiness. But it never evolved, lacked depth and complexity. This has been true for a number of vintages from Moss Wood.
Drink now as it won't get any better although you can leave it for another 7+ years.

Surprisingly more restrained than I was expecting, read as less oak. Extremely well balanced. Everything in place and very typically by way of varietal expression. Moreso than place, I don’t sense much Margaret river here, but that won’t disappoint most. I liked this, but for the premium price point, I take Cullen’s Diana over it.

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of deep ruby colour, with narrow fading rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of black fruit of cassis, blackberry and blackcurrant, oak notes of vanilla, kernel notes of chocolate, pungent spice of liquorice, herbal notes of fennel, maturity notes of savoury. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin of ripe and silky texture, medium (+) alcohol, medium (+) body and exhibiting medium (+) intensity of flavours, with black fruit of blackberry and blackcurrant, oak notes of toast, sweet spice of clove, floral notes of violet. The wine has medium finish. Conclusion: Very good quality Australian Cabernet Sauvignon with an intense nose showing good complexity, with plenty of black fruit, vanilla oak, fennel and liquorice, with hints of development but still youthful. On the palate the wine is well-structured, with ripe silky tannin, powerful yet having a nice finesse not often found in Australian Cabs. The flavours are concentrated, with similar profile as the aromas, and finishing with a reasonable length. It is ready to drink now and can further develop for another 4-6 years.
