  This is excellent and still fairly youthful for its age. Medium weight by ZH standards but still a fairly big and imposing wine. Lychee, grapefruit peel, and curry spice on the palate with strong acidity, resolved sweetness and a bit too much alcoholic heat, but this is hedonistic in style so that’s easily overlooked. Not sure how Weinbach and ZH can make an interesting wine out of a grape that tends toward insipidity everywhere else but these older bottles are worth the low prices if you can find them.

  Drank at the big Zind Humbrecht dinner at home ( with Olivier in attendance! ) The double pour of the fourth course. One bottle was badly corked, the only non-stellar bottle of the night. All had an odd looking fungus under the capsule.

  Anniversary weekend at Fearrington with Alan & Lehna. Medium gold in color, this full bodied wine continues to be the essence of Rangen with wonderful peat moss and earthy notes with a tremendous minerality. Liqueur de Rangen. 50+14+14+9+9=96
