Bottle breathe for 3 hours. It takes another 30 min to open up in the glass. Earthy, precise with some cherry in the palate. It also shows some complexity with vanilla, wood and smoke. Medium finishing with a bit spice. Maybe over the peak but very nice.

Good, but nowhere near the price in the market. Nice sweet fruit, but with a green edge. Matures, but something about it is a little angular rather than harmonious.

Decanted 3 hours. This was great. Dark red fruits, earth, leather, some barnyard but just a touch and not in a bad way. Nice long finish. Really enjoyable. A-

La Paulée de NY Gala Dinner (Pier 60 - NYC): Earthy and leathery nose. Palate is more primary with sweet and round fruits that are fresh. Earth, meat and herb add complexity.

Chris' Birthday Dinner (Summer Palace, Regent Hotel): Very solid, and certainly better than a bottle we had a few years back. Amazingly still quite tight for a 2002 too, especially when placed next to a blushing bottle of 2002 Potel RSV. The nose was very Grivot, with plenty of exotic Indian spices, a touch of dried earth, meat, and wafts of sweet red cherries and berries. Really nice. The palate had a real grip to it, really belying its vintage, with fine tannins and lovely acidity giving a lovely shape to deep flavours of cherries and red berries, earth, meat and exotic spice, all leading into a long minerally finish. Clearly Grand Cru in depth and scale, yet with a lovely sense of transparency and definition. Good stuff. It was a pure old school Grivot though - subtle, Reserve, very vin de garde, with tons left in its tank.
