Flight 1 - Get Together at Domaine Wine Storage (6 notes)

White
2011 Liquid Farm Chardonnay White Hill USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
Not as deep or exciting as the Golden Slope, but delivers nice freshness and acidity.
Rosé
2012 Liquid Farm Mourvèdre Rosé Vogelzang Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara
92 points
Very impressive. Unique aromas of earth, fresh strawberries, and florals. Great depth to the palate, this might be the best domestic rose I've tried.
Red
1979 Georges Noellat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
88 points
Burgundy can seem to take two different paths as it ages; one path leads to elegance, earthy wines while the other leads to wines that taste a lot like balsamic as the flavors break down This seemed to be heading down the path to Balsamicville. The finish had that hint of spice and balsamic that suggested to me that this may have seen better days. Still a very interesting wine that I enjoyed a lot, but I'm not sure how much longer I'd hold remaining bottles.
Red
2003 Teachworth Cabernet Sauvignon Manzanita Hill Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley, Diamond Mountain
92 points
Another great bottle of Teachworth...Napa's underdog. Loved the density of flavor and the lack of richness. Lots of dark berries, some tar, and anise made this really fun to drink. Palate still has nice structure suggesting a long life ahead of it.
Red
2011 Yvon Métras Fleurie Le Printemps France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Fleurie
Very strange nose of vegetables, earth, and trash. These aromas resolved a bit with time, but it was hard for me to really enjoy it. The palate on the other hand showed beautifully. Crisp, edgy gamay with great dark fruits, floral notes and earth. Hopefully my remaining bottles will have better aromatics.
Beer
2013 Three Floyds Permanent Funeral USA, Indiana
97 points
Might be the best beer I've ever had. Fresh and exotic this gave me such pleasure to drink. I've a big fan of IPAs...the bitterness, the greenness, and the citrus and this had all of those elements dialed up to a 15. On a day when thousands of dollars of wine were consumed, this may have been the best drink of the day.

Flight 2 - Dinner at Sun Wah (13 notes)

White
1992 Domaine Leroy Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
95 points
Loved this wine and it makes you understand the greatness of white burgundy. The balance was spectacular - deep, sweet lemon tones were joined by a real sharp mineral tone. Had somewhat of a waxy texture, that gave it a real presence. Brilliant stuff.
Red
1990 Domaine Leroy Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
92 points
Sweet cherry and dusty floral notes are elegant and precise. One of the finer Boudots of the evening.
Red
1999 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
93 points
The Méo-Camuzet house style was on display here. Flavors were dense and dark. More of a dark fruited wine, but never clunky or sappy. Just dark, spicy, rich and balanced. I think most people thought this was the best Boudots of the night.
Red
1999 Domaine Leroy Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
94 points
I liked this a touch more than the 1999 Méo-Camuzet. While not as rich, this was a bit more rustic and edgy. Had a nice meatiness to it with underbrush, floral notes and minerals. Great wine with a lot of structure.
White - Sparkling
1990 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon France, Champagne
93 points
Just a touch better than the bottle I had last fall. Flavors were rich and layered with beautiful brioche, hazelnuts, and cream. Totally has the Dom Perignon house style of luxurious flavors, great acidity and nice texture.
White - Sparkling
1996 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon France, Champagne
95 points
Dazzling wine that shows the class of the 1996 vintage. Beautiful aromas of brioche, mocha, and apples. Palate was pure and fresh with amazing balance and depth of flavor. Stunning wine.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Jacques Selosse Initial France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
94 points
Had a certain elegance and depth that was a beautiful juxtaposition next to the bigger and richer Dom Perignon's. This was more about finesse and style than power or richness. It's beautiful combination of pear, peas, white florals, and truffle. Great stuff.
Red
1998 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
91 points
I think 1998s are, generally, drinking well right now. The fruit here seemed nicely resolved with great depth and purity to the fruit and earth with a softer palate than other vintages. Another example of a vintage that's accessible but won't break the bank.
Red
2000 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
91 points
Drank alongside the 1998 Méo-Camuzet Boudots this had a somewhat similar profile. The fruit was rich and layered, it had a nice earthy profile to it, and seemed ready to drink. Great purity, great wine.
Red
2002 Domaine Leroy Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
92 points
Rich but elegant this still needs some time to really flesh out. Despite its overall youthful nature, it had a rich spiciness to it that was just great. The fruit was pure and rich with beautiful underbrush notes. All the flavors seemed to be sitting at a 6 or 7...with time, that needle should move to the 8 or 9 level.
White - Sparkling
1996 Ruinart Champagne Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs France, Champagne
93 points
Incredibly youthful, energetic and tight. This tasted more like a 2002 than a 1996...its flavors were tightly wound and firm. Despite that, this is composed of incredibly classy material. Beautiful toasty notes, emerged with some pears and apples. Should age beautifully and may become better than the other-worldy 1988.
Red
1999 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
94 points
Small taste. Loved the darkness, the spice, and the rusticity. Has all the class, structure, depth and complexity to become a legend. Even today, the meatiness is gorgeous.

White - Sweet/Dessert
1990 Château d'Yquem France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
94 points
Small taste. A real treat and further proof that d'Yquem's wines can achieve a level of richness and purity that few others can rival.

Flight 3 - Champagne at Keith's (8 notes)

White - Sparkling
2008 Marie-Noëlle Ledru Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée du Goulté Blanc de Noirs Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
89 points
Pretty good stuff. Firm and fresh with nice balance and acidity. Doesn't have much in the way of fruit, so it left me wanting a bit more. Luckily, the 2002 Brut Nature was weighting in the wings.
White - Sparkling
2002 Marie-Noëlle Ledru Champagne Grand Cru Brut Nature France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
94 points
Unique and dazzling nose with a complex bouquet of oxidative notes, lots of floral notes, and fresh minerals. The apples and pears were bright and fresh on the palate but this was all about cut and precision. Great acidity. Great wine.
White - Sparkling
2005 Pierre Péters Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée Speciale Blanc de Blancs Les Chetillons France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
91 points
This was an interesting bottle to open alongside the Ledru bottles. Instead of being defined by rocks and acid, this was defined by brioche, hazelnut and cream. Big, broad, am thoroughly delicious. May not have had the second gear that it may soon eventually have, but I thought it showed nicely.
White
2002 F.X. Pichler Riesling Smaragd Loibner Berg Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau
92 points
This was definitely the best bottle of this I've had. The nose was floral, and elegant. Tones of lychee and lanolin wafted out of the glass. The palate was soft in a way, but still complex. Perhaps some acidity has been lost over time, but what remains is floral, soft and delicate.
White - Sparkling
2002 R. & L. Legras Champagne Grand Cru Présidence Vieilles Vignes France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
90 points
Enjoyed the yeasty, bready tones on this wine. May not have had the deep complexity that I ultimately wanted, but I still enjoyed this a lot. Great acidity - not surprising for a 2002 was here in full force.
White
1990 Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
91 points
Lovely spice, lemons, smoke and hazelnut on the nose. The palate was wonderfully fresh with exotic citrus notes, smokey minerals and nice acid. Great stuff.
White
2000 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
90 points
Nice aromas of honey, straw, lemons and spices. Its palate was still somewhat firm, but displayed good balance and richness of fruit.
White - Sparkling
2006 José Michel & Fils Champagne Special Club France, Champagne
91 points
Lots of tart acidity at this stage, but underneath lies some really nice material. Good lemon, lime, cream and rocks. Should shape up nicely with time.

Flight 4 - Flannery Fest at Jordan's (8 notes)

Red
1975 Château Latour Grand Vin France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
85 points
A tired wine that clung onto some old Bordeaux characteristics. Aromas were mostly of balsamic, cedar, and roses. Palate was thin, but had some nice earthy and leafy qualities to it. It's definitely seen better days.
White
2009 Sine Qua Non On The Lam USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County
Dense, viscous and rich. Drank this outside in warm weather, so it wasn't ideal conditions.
White - Sparkling
1992 Schramsberg Vineyards Blanc de Blancs USA, California
91 points
Definitely the oldest Schramsberg I've had, but this was stately and elegant. It had lost much of its energy and edge, but drank much more like an aged, still, chardonnay. Smokey, and full of citrus it was a pleasure to drink.
Red
1991 Ridge Zinfandel Paso Robles USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles
92 points
I really liked this. The fruit was ultra spicy, rich, but focused. Seems to have shed its sappy fruit in the perfect way. Left behind were brambly dark fruits, subtle earth, some wood char and great structure. Didn't seem tired at all.

White
2007 Maison Leroy Bourgogne Blanc France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
90 points
Beautiful lemon and smoke elements emerged on the nose with a relatively lithe palate. A refreshing chardonnay that's not too complex, but delivers great enjoyment.
White
1995 Maison Leroy Bourgogne Blanc France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
88 points
Lots of apple and cider notes on the nose, but the palate was fresh. This is probably a couple years past peak, but still drinking nicely.
White - Sparkling
2002 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année France, Champagne
93 points
Broad shouldered and burly. If you like the big house style of champagne with toasty, rich elements, this is your type of champagne. Despite the density of flavor the ultra high acid of 2002 really helped this along. Was a complete joy to drink outside in 90 degree weather.

White
2007 Aubert Chardonnay Lauren Estate Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
91 points
An Aubert chardonnay I like! Great smokey notes and tons of lemon and lime flavors. Where CA chardonnay's for me sometimes misstep is the lack of acid, but there was plenty going on here. Perfect to drink outside by the grill.
