Special bubble. Firm lemon acidity, but also mild. Limestone minerality. Also a bit rustic. Very special and not unpleasant.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

White
2006 Domaine Jean Chartron Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

Golden yellow color. The bouquet is not very expressive. On the palate yellow tropical fruits, vanilla, good acidity and also a firm amount of sweetness. Good bitterness. Beautiful wine and ready now.
White

Just limited notes. The wine is still locked and very youthful. There are tropical fruits like pineapple, good fresh citrus and well dosed luxurious oak. Beautiful wine. Hope to taste again. 92+

Beautifully mature, rustic and classical bouquet with still cassis and luxurious oaky flavors and cedar. On the palate a bit rustic as well, red and dark forest fruits, sweet spices, a touch of sweetness and beautiful acidity. Silky soft tannin. Overall a harmonious, round, creamy and refined wine. Fully mature now and no reason to wait any longer. The wine will not improve anymore. It will probably stay on this level for a few more years.

Great to taste this wine again! Beautiful and rustic bouquet with still good mature cassis. On the palate cassis and other dark forest fruits still, earthy flavors, good acidity and tannin with still a good bite. Beautifully balanced and a great length. Mature Bordeaux can be sooo beautiful! Can probably last another 5 years if you are lucky enough to have a perfect bottle.

Always an honor to taste this wine (blind). Luxurious and elegant bouquet with some earthy flavors. On the palate a beautifully developed wine, still round and creamy, soft and melted tannin, beautiful acidity, good concentration and length. Enormously harmonious, subtle and tempting. I am a lucky guy having tasted Petrus approx 8 - 10 times now and overall I dare to say that Petrus never impresses for its power, but it always excels in harmony and subtlety. My blind score for this evening was 94. And if I had any, I would open it at the first very special occasion between now and 2017.

This is a TOP wine at its ultimate peak! Beautiful and luxurious bouquet with some earth and smoke. On the palate beautiful cassis, sweet spices, exclusive oak, some pleasant soft bell pepper (positive!, beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness. A very harmonious and elegant wine at its perfect peak. Don’t miss this moment! The wine will not improve anymore. Blind score of 98!

Fun! My other TN in CT from 1988 scored the wine 95. With this new note I (blind) scored the wine 95 again. Beautifully mature and rustic bouquet, with earth, some good bell pepper and smoke. On the palate a mature wine, but there are still red and dark forest fruits and melted tannin. Perfect acidity and a lot of finesse and very refined. A great beauty and although the wine will not improve anymore, it will last a few more years.

Beautiful wine with lead pencil, chocolate, mocha and powdery impressions in the nose. On the palate in fact the same. Some earthy flavors, chewy, autumn impressions. Definitely a beautiful wine which I blind scored 93, but after the exposure I was a little disappointed; hoped for even a bit more. Completely ready now.

(Almost) perfect wine in a perfect drinking stage. Mature bouquet with graphite, chocolate, sweet spices and luxurious oak. All comes back on the palate. with perfect acidity and soft tannin. Really great wine now which I (blind) scored 97 – 98. While translating my note I see that the drinking window in CT says ultimately 2075. pffffff. Then the wine will be dead and gone I think. Drinking it between now and 2020 is probably the wisest thing to do.

Still a very vital color. Cassis, dark forest fruits, graphite, chocolate and mocha in the bouquet. Same on the palate. Beautiful and complex dark fruit juice. Melted tannin with still a beautiful soft bite. A classical Pauillac and I think this perfect bottle could have lasted until 2020. But it was also fully mature this evening. Great length. Blind score 96.

Faulty bottle or simply too old? Probably the first. The bouquet had organic flavors, celery, chocolate and reductive flavors. I did not bother to make more notes and score the wine.

No specific notes. This is a beautiful and mature Pomerol. Creamy and everything in beautiful harmony. Completely ready now and I wonder if the drinking window until 2030 in Cellartracker is realistic. I wouldn’t wait that long. The wine is at its peak now.

Luxurious bouquet with some cassis still, sweet spices and also some pleasant barnyard. On the palate the same. Some red fruits and a touch of bell pepper as well. The tannin is soft and still has some bite. There is quite much acidity. The latter could mean that the wine is on the brink of going downhill, but on the other hand can good acidity keep the wine alive longer than expected. In this case I don’t know.

Exclusive and silky bouquet with beautiful sweet spices, cedar, red and black berry fruits. Same on the palate plus a firm amount of fresh acidity and soft tannin. A wine with great finesse and length. At its peak now. Probably wise to drink now or soon, but with wines of this age, you never know.. until you pop the cork.

1985 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Cassis, sweet spices and beautiful oak in the bouquet. Same on the palate, red fruits as well, beautiful acidity and lovely soft tannin with a pleasant bite. Refined wine with a lot of finesse. Fully mature, but it can still last a few years as well.

1985 Château Léoville Las Cases France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

A lot of cassis and other dark and red forest fruits, lead pencil and smoke in the still youthful bouquet. Everything comes back on the palate plus beautiful acidity and mature but still powerful tannin. This bottle is so much better than the one I tasted in 2012. A bottle in this condition can probably last into the 2020’s. 96 for tonight.

First I need to say that the bottle we tasted was the (Belgian) Vandermeulen bottling. The bouquet was very mature with tea and coffee. On the palate faint cassis and still alive. Also some metal. Overall: still alive, but way past its prime. I do not score the wine.

1985 Château Margaux France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Beautiful and very tempting bouquet with black fruits, cedar, smoke etc. On the palate the same flavors as well as some chocolate. Beautiful harmony also with the acidity and soft tannin with still a nice bite. Exclusive, refined, complex and feminine. This bottle could have last several more years.

1985 Château Latour Grand Vin France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

See also my previous note of a not so good bottle. But now I'm happy again. This evening we had a true Latour! Exclusive and luxurious bouquet with good cassis, graphite, cedar, tobacco, smoke, cigar box etc. Same on the palate with a great balance between acidity and sweetness and tannin with still a good bite. Great length. Masculine wine. I am sure a well kept bottle can last until into the 2020’s.

The bouquet with concentrated dark forest fruits is a bit Port-like. On the palate also dark forest fruits and a lot of extraction. Good chocolate and round tannin with a lot of soft power. Good acidity. This seems to be a perfectly balanced and concentrated wine, but not one Burgundy lovers will like. My problem is that I can really appreciate good Burgundy, but also this type of modern New World style of wine. Anyway, if you like this style this is great stuff! 98++ for tonight.
