The cork looked at though this wine could have been 2 years old, never mind 20. Great condition. Dense colour, garnet at the very rim, with beautiful flecks of ruby highlights. Great colour for the age. The nose brings an instant smile to my face - the unmistakable scent of classic mature claret. Old dusty leather furniture, Cedar, blackcurrant, cherry, some farmyard, it is quite complex. The palate is alluring, flavours continue from the scent along with a chalky minerality. The finish a of moderate intensity and quite long. Utterly delicious, and I don't remember previous bottles being this good. In a great place. Cellar tracker drinking window is hideously pessimistic, plenty of life in this wine yet. I brought this wine specifically for some wine friends, one of which is just getting into wine, to demonstrate the delights that Bordeaux offers, with patience, and to hopefully guard against all those "drying out" reviews of closed wines, yet to release their full glory. Only 2 of 12 left of these now.

Tried one out of a case of 6 to check in This is a brash La Rosine
Quite full bodied and assertive, I think it requires some years to settle down.

Didn't show as well as previous bottles, but that is more likely me than the wine. A little four square for now.

Colour is dark ruby. Nose is of red and black berries, done Syrah character here, but alcohol is it of balance and dominates the nose (at cellar temp). Chilled briefly which only muted the palate. Palate is reasonably representative of the grape. Would never be mistaken for Northern Rhone, but is closer to that than Australia. It has promise and attempts elegance, but for me, the alcohol level just doesn't allow it.

Bright ruby colour. Nose is typical of the region - bright red fruits, and after some time, starts to develop some depth -a touch of toasty oak. The palate reveals red currant, cranberry, sour cherry- very typical. Finish is of medium length and intensity. Day2 - this really has gained a lot of depth. This brings flavours reminiscent of strawberry and raspberry. There is a savouriness in that depth which is certainly Pinot-esque. Also here is a seam of minerality I didn't notice previously - really delicious, entering a nice phase and given the evolution, plenty of time ahead of this.

Lovely medium ruby colour. Rich nose of sweet red fruits, done forest floor and cordite. Palate matches the nose and the finish is very mineralic and of medium length and intensity. Wine is in a very nice place with no hurry to drink up.

Last consumed a few years ago, this has developed nicely. Purchased at Langhe Nebbiolo prices, and better than many of those. Beautiful pale ruby colour with highlights of garnet and orange. Nose is floral. Now, I tried this out of a generic white wine, generic red wine and a Burgundy glass. In the white wine glass this was all sweet red fruits, cherries, cranberry. In the Burgundy glass, the fruit was a little more sour cherry, cranberry more prominent, rhubarb, but the finish became very mineral and interesting. The generic red wine glass gave something between the two, and probably not as good as either. The palate itself is rich and flavorful, with a texture more sense than expected. Really enjoyed this. Not a 90s wine, but enjoyable.

What has changed since last time? Me, or the wine (or is it just variability). My main concern last time was it was a bit monolithic, chunky. Certainly not the case here. Colour: gorgeous deep ruby. Classic nose of blackcurrant and pencil shavings. Palate is rich, yet lithe. The texture is fine, and the finish is long and mineralic. Still a little primary, but beautiful textural complexity here. 93/94.

A couple of year since I have had this and it is utterly delightful. Colour is a deep gold yet bright - no browning. Nose is bright lemon and lime, some grapefruit within a denser blanket of honey, toast, touch of lanolin, some olive almost - damp cellar and a mineral vein through it all. Palate is full and rich reflecting those citrus flavours, lanolin, toast, and the finish is very long - with a fine thread of honey piercing through the initial flush, and continuing on and on. Beautiful wine, and by far best value wine I have ever purchased. Hmm - after writing this note, I have had to add a point :) This bottle is in better condition than my last, so there is some variability - to be expected at this age - but plenty of life left here.

Colour is pale ruby fading to garnet. Nose is typical Musar, leather, cloves, currants, spicy and enticing. The palate reflects this. Typical Musar, but age has brought harmony, elegance and integration. It is elegant and complex, yet powerful. Unique wine, and lovely with this age on it.

After a flawed bottle, I though I would try another. This is in better shape, but seems somewhat shutdown. Quite blocky palate - not a great deal of fruit to speak of, and very firm tannins. There is a little tertiary development. After being open 3 days, it starts to develop an interesting chalky minerality on the finish. Not much more to say at this point.

Nose is unmistakeably Northern Rhone, Black pepper, dark cherries, liquorice. Very promising. Nose is reflected in the palate which finishes with a satisfying if slightly awkward acidic twist. Day 2, this had become a little anonymous, though it is still very enjoyable. Great value for a tenner.

Hmm - decanted this for a couple of hours. Lovely colour - still quite youthful. Lovely typical nose - palate shows a lot of acidity and tannin - feels quite pinched, which suggests this could be past its best. It always did have that feel though - I remember it coming across more Italian than Bordeaux. Day 2, it is more settled, and filled out. Maybe it needs more time? Certainly felt past it day 1. Last bottle none-the-less, so no point in speculation.

Colour is dense. A very full and lush wine, certainly for a Collines Rhodaniennes. Nose is full of blackberry, and while exuberant, still speaks of cool climate Syrah. The palate is full and lush - textured with a medium finish. Medium acidity. Some minerality develops on the palate after a few days. Seems to be some development to be had here, but hard to resist its youthful allures.

Decanter for 2 hours prior to consumption. Dense colour. The nose and palate initially are all blackcurrant and cedar. Balance is good, texture is good, and is promising for the future, but right now it is lacking expression. Day 2 sees a bit more life, with a more interesting chalky minerality showing on the medium finish.

This was much more approachable than my first bottle 12-18? months ago which lacked expression. This immediately boasted a generous nose of Syrah fruit, red and black berries, always keeping that Northern elegance. The palate was full flavoured through to the finish which was moderately persistent. By day 2, the brash fruit has been interwoven with a glorious chalky mineralogy which was present throughout though particularly so on the finish. Overall an elegant yet generous wine, indicative of its region.

Gorgeous mature nose is initially dominated by leather, but with about an hour of air the fruit has emerged, beautiful raspberry, rhubarb, cherry. The palate is a little lighter than the nose would suggest, but a delightful wine and definitely in a good place. I doubt there is more improvement to be has with further aging, though it isn't about to fall off a cliff.

This really hasn't evolved a huge amount - still tasting very young. Dense opaque ruby, fading toward the edge, hint of purple in there. Nose is focussed, tight, mineral, along with sour red fruits - rhubarb, sour cherry. Replicated on the palate, some berry in there too. Concentrated, especially on the mid palate. Tannins still assertive on the finish, which is quite long, with some really interesting mineral inflection if really paying attention. A long time ahead of this, no idea what direction this may go in though, as this is my first vintage purchased of this wine - have certainly seen very interesting results in other Cru Beaujolais around the 10 year mark.

The progression of this has maintained its trajectory from the last 2 bottles confined. Nose has more black fruit, some leather, tobacco, starting to round out. Palate is even, red and black fruits coming through with a medium finish. Pleasant young wine, though this will develop nicely for many years.

Judging from previous bottles, I would say this is only just entering its drinking window. Colour is deep - black at the core, fading fairly abruptly to the rim with purple hints. The nose is fresh - intriguing, there is something there that I recognise as methoxypyrazine based, but it has morphed slightly. Very fresh. The mid palate is full - is has that perfumed flavour, which again is pyrazine based, but has a real candied cherry aspect to it. The finish linger, but is not strong. A bit of sweetness on the finish even. Tannins are present but not heavy. Nice balance - good value wine , which has certainly benefitted from a couple of years storage, and I think could benefit with further aging.

This was purchased about 3 years ago. A bottle sampled at the time was quite dense and four square. This has done the magical Bordeaux thing - it is beautifully rich - nose of leather, oak, black cherries, black berries. The palate is luxuriously medium bodied, flavours reflect the nose - classic Bordeaux and in a really nice place. This is a classic example of where, if a Bordeaux is a bit dull, it is not likely past it (as many notes indicate), but just not yet ready.

Deep ruby fading gently to the rim. Nose is fruit forward - red fruits, some rhubarb, some florality. Palate is boldly fruity - full flavoured, medium bodied, delicious. Finish is long and gently - lovely beaujolais. Day 2, the finish has developed a cereal note which is a little detracting. The tannins are more dominant - worth drinking up I think.

Deep colour - garnet at the very rim. Nose of leather and cedar, with air, fruit comes out - cherry, raspberry. Palate is medium bodied, with not quite the intensity of the nose. Tannins have smoothed markedly since my last sampling. Very juicy on the mid palate. The finish is quite long, but not intense. It is not as lactic as it was - though there is still a touch there. This has certainly improved since my last tasting, and is very good right now.

Very good. Nose displays some Oak and classic dark fruits. Strangely, had me thinking Syrah. Not as much tertiary development as the 2012 at the same age, but definitely a little leather in the mix. Full miss palate and pleasant clean finish displaying a little Oak and minerality.

Opened a few hours ahead to determine decanting requirements. None needed. Tannins are subdued, yet perceptible on the finish. Subtle nose with typical raspberry, rhubarb, some smoke and nettle. The palate is pure silk, with those flavours more dominant than the nose. Lovely elegant concentration, beautiful light yet deep colour. Utterly beguiling in textural and sensory complexity. Day 2: possibly better yet, certainly no marked degradation, suggesting plenty of age in this one.
