4/17/24, 9:18 AM - Finished the bottle after about 3 hours in decanter. It improved slightly with air.
3/13/24, 8:34 AM - Barboursville is one of the largest and generally considered one of the best wineries in Va. They have a wonderful restaurant in a beautiful setting. I would not hesitate to recommend a visit!
1/29/24, 8:13 PM - Always a great choice at the price-point!
1/8/24, 7:29 PM - Garagiste?
1/3/24, 10:05 AM - Wineotim, I hope you like it! Post your tasting note.
12/29/23, 7:29 AM - I like to give these young Nebbiolo at least 2 hours in decanter. I often pour some into a glass, then back into the decanter a few times as well.
11/13/23, 7:33 PM - Funny, my wife and I were in Northern Spain walking El Camino when I heard the Americans at the table next to us discussing the wine and how weird it was. I recognized the producer and told them it was a top notch bottling, "but you have to like Mencia"! lol
8/19/23, 6:46 PM - Double magnum, NEAT!
8/18/23, 7:58 AM - I worked for the wholesaler/import, so it was transported directly from the temperature controlled warehouse to my temperature controlled cellar and stored there. Hopefully just a bad bottle!
8/2/23, 8:51 PM - Seems like the producer may have had a bottling issue, or perhaps it was too soon after bottling? The 2019 is still in the market now and is quite good for the money!
6/25/23, 7:30 PM - You drink wine to get your girlfriend drunk? I like the cut of your jib! ;)
6/1/23, 6:11 PM - The Signature wasn't made in 2017. Are you sure it wasn't something else?
6/1/23, 11:42 PM - Fascinating!!
6/2/23, 10:32 AM - mind if I ask how you procured this bottle?
6/2/23, 12:56 PM - Interesting! I wonder if I know them. The company I work for imports their wine into the US and I was there for a visit a few weeks ago! (is it Adam?)
4/24/23, 12:43 PM - I'm always skeptical about the aging ability of Malbec from Mendoza, but I'm always pleasantly surprised! This should age well!
2/27/23, 10:06 AM - I have 2 bottles of 1992 purchased 5-6 years ago (as well as some 1997-2014 purchased at release). a bottle drunk then was so-so. Hoping for better from the last two.
2/27/23, 9:18 AM - I have several bottles of Anrecht and Schmitt from 2016 and 2018. I was planning to wait until they're 15. Sounds good to you based on the 2009?
2/27/23, 9:15 AM - After tasting this wine at our wine club, I split a case with another member (I took 8). I had just left grad school and this was the most I had ever spent on wine. It's become a very special wine for my wife and I as we met in 1995 (in grad school). It has been a spectacular wine over the years. We last shared a bottle with the winemaker from Bodegas Weinert (a fried who LOVES CdP) when he was in the US. We have 2 left and will certainly have one for our 30th anniversary.
12/17/22, 7:27 PM - What did you serve at the wedding?
12/11/22, 7:35 PM - Read your review immediately after posting mine, and they seem basically identical. May I ask if your bottle was purchased at release or a recent library release from the winery?
11/15/22, 8:51 PM - Interestingly, my bottle was also disgorged April 2021, but was based on the 2016 vintage and has 6g/l dosage.
5/9/22, 6:54 PM - Great review. Sounds like you had it at the winery or in the region? FYI: these are imported to the US by European Cellars.
4/11/22, 10:18 AM - It's certainly possible, but there was no hint of overt oxidation and the cork was very sound. I have 5 more bottles, so time will tell....
3/13/22, 3:41 PM - Night 2: this is MUCH better and really shows a chalky minerality and less dosage. Can’t wait for this to mature! 90+
3/12/22, 4:45 PM - I've been tasting (and selling) this wine since its inception. Check out my recent notes on the 2018 (identical to yours) and 2013.
2/6/22, 8:34 AM - sethebarlow: life goals, my man. Life goals!
2/3/22, 7:08 PM - Winepeasant, un-mechanically cooled cellars are fine for short-term cellaring of wine. In fact there are advantages (quicker evolution), but anything over 10 years is really going to be a gamble unless you live in a very cool climate.
1/31/22, 6:53 AM - joostentamara: expect a long decant as well (1+ hours at a minimum)
1/30/22, 8:44 PM - Perfect assessment!
1/31/22, 6:48 AM - Pick something special for your 1000th!
1/7/22, 9:26 AM - Ikilpio, I have all of Louis' single vineyard Gigondas' from 2010 and will not be opening any of them for at least another year. (and the Valbelle will sit for at least 2 more years). If you search through my notes, you'll see that St Cosme has an intensely tight and tannic house style and the wines evolve at a glacial pace. I have friends in Finland and hope to visit soon!
12/18/21, 9:23 AM - I was moving bottles around in my cellar and (perhaps) the jarring of the bottles caused a cork of a 1985 Chateauneuf to slip into the bottle, but the foil contained the wine. I sat it upright and served it to a group of wine lovers the following day and it was quite fine!!
11/14/21, 3:05 PM - Nice choice for a 1000th tasting note! Mine is coming soon!!! What will it be?? Krug? an '85 Chateauneuf (always a fave)? Who knows!?
9/22/21, 3:27 PM - WOW! What a treasure.
9/10/21, 9:08 AM - Just got some from WTSO $59.99. Haven't heard of Wineslash or Last Bottle, but I'll check them out!
8/30/21, 4:22 PM - Thanks for the reminder SRH, I’ll have to open another bottle in the next two years.
8/15/21, 1:53 PM - Mark, do you have any?
8/9/21, 7:20 PM - BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
8/7/21, 9:35 AM - Thank you! I may only have one bottle of the 97 left.
8/3/21, 12:36 PM - srh, do you work for La Rioja Alta?
8/3/21, 3:13 PM - Haha, I see!
7/10/21, 9:22 AM - No problem, Mark! Enjoy
5/16/21, 6:09 PM - Glad you're back at it!
3/28/21, 6:54 PM - I had no idea Garagiste sold this.
2/9/21, 11:26 AM - I replied to your comment on my note.
2/9/21, 11:24 AM - Anything is possible. I got all of these direct from the wholesaler (I'm it). I've been selling these wines for 20+ years and always find them to be fantastic bargains but most vintages seem to decline at about the same time and they never have more than a trace of sediment so the sterile filtration may limit longevity.
1/25/21, 9:06 AM - Just got some 2017 Kabinett Urz Wurz!
1/17/21, 6:00 PM - Found my tasting note (pre-cellartracker) from Dec 2015:Medium garnet. Nice nose, very reminiscent of the Langhe. Pine resin, dried rose petals and a litte bit heady. Spicy, red cherries. perhaps a hint of smoke. Medium-full bodied and again, much more reminiscent of Langhe than Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is 100% Terroir-driven with very little to no varietal character. That being said, I like it! Silky smooth tannins and just a little washed-out on the finish with a hint of oxidation/cooked character creeping in. Delicious! 90 df 9.0
1/2/21, 11:54 AM - WOW.
12/13/20, 8:51 PM - I hope so, but it’s happened repeatedly with wines from this estate around this age. At least since the mid 2000s. Some bottles from the 90’s have aged beautifully
12/13/20, 8:52 PM - When did you open your last bottle?
9/21/20, 6:41 PM - Thankfully, I have 3 more bottles!
8/11/20, 7:11 PM - Where do you get all these fabulous and ancient wines?
6/26/20, 11:15 PM - After another 6 hours in decanter, there is still little fruit, but the minerality has come to the fore.
3/14/20, 3:20 PM - Wine Grades, I'm pretty sure this is just EXTREMELY young and unformed at this point. I would wait several years, but if you must open one now, I'd open, decant and return to the bottle the day before drinking.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
