4/14/24, 3:05 AM - Interesting. So I had a long chat with them at the winery about this subject, they said all of their Grassnitzberg would be labelled as Riff as of 2020, they weren’t able to explain exactly why. I’ll try and get a better answer out of them next time. Do you have a reference for the 2020 without the Riff? I can’t find it on their website.
4/14/24, 8:18 AM - Tatsächlich. I’ll do some more digging about this. I wonder why it’s not on their website.
9/1/22, 12:40 PM - Hi Mark, it was decanted for a couple of hours. Yes I would say necessary.
7/24/22, 6:22 AM - Very strange, if you've had three bad ones consider contacting the seller or Pataille himself.
5/31/22, 11:28 AM - Thanks for the great note. I'm pretty sure the Lois sees no wood at all, it's softened a bit by aging on the lees though.
2/18/22, 3:30 PM - Hello! Yes I did decant this, for an hour or so before drinking. We drank it with rabbit Ragu with olive and pappardelle. It went very well.
5/6/21, 10:02 AM - I love a calm nose on a wine! I know what you mean though. Thanks for the note.
2/24/21, 7:24 AM - Sad to hear! I've not had a single corked wine from Vajra yet.
1/16/21, 6:08 AM - Excellent note and information. I look forward to broaching my bottles!
1/8/21, 7:21 AM - I bought a twelve bottle case of this a couple of years ago and we're nine bottles in and so far no fizzy ones. There has been significant bottle variation in the flavours, i.e. some super funky and some only mildly so but no fizz even though the cap has always come off with a pop. We decanted them all because they were usually a bit sewery on opening.
12/24/20, 5:38 AM - Totally agree, beautiful wine, except 2015 was considered an excellent vintage in Barolo. So you're drinking one of the likely heralded vintages!
12/20/20, 7:07 AM - At €33 per bottle I think this is one of the best value Barolos there is. What is your prefered Barolo around this price?
12/4/20, 8:52 AM - It's not just wine for which mid life is perplexing...
10/18/20, 11:15 AM - It's €15 in Germany and Austria and fair value at that price I find.
10/17/20, 1:26 AM - Hi Paul. Yes, what I wrote was confusing. All the Ardanzas are Reserva and there is only ever one (sometimes none) produced in each vintage. And I don’t think the winemaking was any different in 2010. So I ought to have said I prefer the previous vintages of Ardanza. The 2010 is pretty widely available though so I might open it next to a 2008 and compare, perhaps my memory is foggy.Just had a look on the website, the Arana seems to have been upgraded to Gran Reserva from 2012 onwards.
8/22/20, 8:59 AM - About the price point, what does this cost in the US (assuming you're there)?
8/22/20, 10:41 AM - Thanks. So I've only ever bought this directly from Produttori and the 2015 and 2016 were €25 if I remember correctly, so the UK price is fair, I just wondered if people had been disappointed in this because it was more expensive in the US.
8/1/20, 9:19 AM - Thanks for the note, I'd be interested to hear, what does this cost per bottle in the US?
8/1/20, 9:06 AM - Thanks for the note, I agree with you about the profile. For Riesling however I don't find it particularly acidic, it's vanishingly unlikely that it was acidified as the grape tends to high acidity and I doubt Vajra would do this with any of their wines.
7/22/20, 4:31 AM - Thanks for the note. I have some of the 2007 which I haven't drunk yet. It does sound like it might have been faulty, normally Tondonia isn't like madeira or port, or particularly oaky to taste. I'll report on how mine is when I get round to it!
7/18/20, 4:49 AM - Yes, this is a keeper. It’s actually quite a big wine and has the tannin and fruit to improve for many years yet.
5/29/20, 8:32 AM - Thanks for the detailed note. I agree with your outstanding, the Doosberg is one of my overall favourite wines.
5/18/20, 12:14 AM - Buy it while you can..it's not cheap at €40 but I can't see it staying at this price for many years to come unfortunately.
5/17/20, 12:19 PM - What did you think of it? I've got some of these in storage but haven't thought about drinking one yet.
4/24/20, 1:48 PM - ist der Wein schon reif? ich habe selber 6 Flaschen und möchte so gern eine aufmachen.. aber nicht umsonst.
4/24/20, 1:41 PM - They really do need time. Interestingly, Gaston Hochar will be doing an interview with Pierre Mansour from The Wine Society on Wednesday next week, on which they will be drinking and discussing the 2012. The 1999 Musar was excellent at the end of last year.
4/10/20, 6:23 AM - How much longer would you store it for?
3/23/20, 11:08 AM - Lovely wine. The 2013 was €15, the 2015 nearly €30. Painful.
3/23/20, 12:35 PM - I’ve not got the 2014 of this, but from similar appellations I’ve found 2014 lighter than 2013. The 2015 Pataille Marsannay is much richer, nowhere near ready.
3/22/20, 2:23 PM - Good stuff. This was my favourite Langhe Riesling until I tried Ettore Germano's Hérzu.
3/22/20, 2:51 PM - Yes, a similar style, high acid, juicy fruit and floral. Quite rich, dry tasting but I suspect a bit of residual sugar. Costs about €20 in Italy.
2/3/20, 12:15 PM - I thought this was a lovely wine, and at €23 from the winery I find it great value.
1/18/20, 2:38 PM - Good to hear their other wines are different! I was given this as a present. I'm based in the Munich area but travel often so I'll let you know in good time if Köln would be possible when you're there.
1/14/20, 11:20 PM - Thanks for the note, very helpful. I've not tried this since it was released but my impression back then was that it has a very long life ahead.
1/12/20, 2:52 AM - If you have other bottles leave them at least 5 years or so, the mouth puckering tannins do subside.
1/5/20, 12:18 PM - Hallo! Barolo -> Barbaresco. Und bei Ca' del Baio sind nur Pora und Asili in Barrique gereift, glaube ich.
1/5/20, 10:43 AM - It is not.
11/28/19, 7:27 AM - Thanks for the note, I wonder if there's bottle variation, I've tried this a few times and found it excellent, and more or less typical of 2013, good acid, floral and leaner than 2010 and 2015.
10/4/19, 7:04 AM - Thanks for the note, very helpful and I agree about a-typical. It's actually 100% Sangiovese though, not a drop of Cabernet. Interestingly for Chianti though Capannino is planted to a Brunello clone (Sangiovese grosso) so this could provide some explanation.
6/2/19, 9:56 AM - Thanks for the note, you don't see many for this wine. About the aging, when we visited Vajra in 2016, they had open a 2006 and a 2000 bottling of this Riesling, both were still excellent.
4/26/19, 11:51 AM - Lovely wines, sadly not under the radar though, the prices very much match for Montalcino!
4/11/19, 4:46 AM - Cheap too!
3/12/19, 11:08 AM - Thanks for the helpful note, I agree with the descriptions. I would ask if you are using the cellar tracker scale to arrive at the 62 though. It sounds rather harsh for this pleasant wine!https://support.cellartracker.com/article/49-tasting-notes-and-ratings
12/25/18, 1:01 PM - Great tasting note. Ironically I opened three corked bottles of this after having drunk several in perfect condition. Totally agree about the drinking window. This is big stuff.
8/14/18, 12:14 AM - Very good note. I see what you mean about it not being for everyone. I didn't realise they exported to the US. Thanks!
8/5/18, 5:29 AM - Gosh, 95 is a tremendous score! I also enjoyed this wine and found it to be excellent value.
7/28/18, 9:02 AM - It really does smell like tennis ball! Excellent observation.
7/21/18, 1:09 PM - Hello Patrick, completely agree about the lifetime of these wines. Having said that, I found this wine more approachable in youth than wines of a similar age from Muga and La Rioja Alta. And interestingly the Remelluri Reserva from 2008 is already showing well to my taste.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
