Awesome wine ready to go. Plush, complex and finishes long. Puts many high end Napa “first” cabs to shame for 2012

Paired with steak at Selbys. Opened for an hour but not decanted.

The wine has aged and rounded out only a little since I last tasted 5 years ago. Still flashing gorgeous blue and red fruit up front with a persistent and complex finish (cedar, tobacco, licorice). Great nose and mouthfeel. Only 2 bottles left :(

Ringer for a young Marcassin. Really outstanding stuff. Primary fruit is more currant than cherry but the payoff is exotic secondary notes of black tea, forest floor and mushrooms. So much going on until the last drop and for under 60 bucks.

Pretty standard Napa Cab but better than I expected given other notes. Dark purple and still very tannic, but well integrated and intense. Mostly black fruit and cassis with tobacco and toasted oak on the finish.

Popped and poured. This was still great. Big blue fruit has faded a bit but plenty of life and complex secondary notes flashing. Smoked meat, earth and pepper. Expansive lush mouthfeel.

Decanted for one hour at Bird Dog.

This was right in the drinking zone tonight - the best bottle of Les Pavots I’ve had. Full bodied, and big with cassis, blue fruit and vanilla upfront. Silky tannins but still enough structure to explode in the mouth with a long, intense finish of licorice, mint and a touch of herbs. Will go for many more years but why wait?

Fruit is fading on this, but still tasty and flashing savory secondary notes. Time to drink up.

Thick, youthful and fruity but with nice tones on the finish. Should develop more complexity and has the structure to age.

Popped and poured my magnum with grilled steaks on the Smith River trip. Unlike the 750 I had recently, this one is still a monster. Tightly wound initially but opens up to powerful blue and black fruit with massive but sweet tannins. Strong oak, vanilla, and toasty finish. Should hold and soften, even in regular format.

Plump, juicy and good to go with a pop & pour. Red berries up front with baking spice and licorice on the long finish.

Popped and poured at Stella Alpina. This brilliant sangio is open for business. Explosive, bright red fruit with licorice and mint. There is a persistent finish with layers of flavor that evolve from the first glass to the last. Well-structured and full-bodied but the tannins have sweetly melted away.

Very classy red blend from a poor vintage. Ample blackcurrant and red cherry fruit with cigar box, vanilla and baking spice on the finish. Medium-bodied and supple. Improved right through the last glass. (Decanted 3 hours and served with filet mignon)

Decanted for an hour and served with strip steak at LB. At age 11 this is still a baby. Flashes immediate thick black fruit with mouth-coating power and a long finish of mocha and licorice. Gripping but not tannic. No hard edges or discernable oakiness of alcohol. Very classy.

Popped and poured with steak at LB Steak. This wine was really rocking tonight. Full-bodied, classy and expansive. Big attack of blue fruit and cassis but not overpowering. Finishes long and complex with licorice, vanilla and espresso.

Classy, expressive cab with classic notes of black fruit, cassis and vanilla / oak. Long finish but hoped for more complexity. Opened up toward the end of the bottle even after a 3 hour decant. Likely to improve.

Splash decanted for a half hour and shared with Mike M at John Bentleys. This a pure and almost perfect cabernet. Dark blueberry fruit, cassis extract and glycerin ooze from the glass to coat the mouth and nose. 30+ second finish of toasty, spicy oak with floral hints. Wish I had more.

Decanted for an hour and served with steaks at 5A5. Big and full-bodied wine but on the softer side for the vintage. Fruit forward with explosive currant, cassis and blackberry, as I find typical of Scarecrow. Finishes long with dusty hints of Rutherford earth, licorice and spice. Still fresh and young, but close to peak drinking.

Decanted for 1 hour and served at Bourbon Steak with Ronde. A classy Napa cab but not on par with other Scarecrow vintages I've had. Full bodied with ample blue fruit and cassis. Concentrated, still tannic and rich but a bit monolithic and unyielding on the back end. Will hold other 2 bottles for a few years.

Popped and poured. Could use more time as this was still a bit tight on Day 2. Muscular, intense profile with brooding red fruit, meatiness and spice.

More full-bodied and extracted than a typical Dehlinger PN. Thick black fruit with a lot of spice. Expansive in the mouth and just hitting its stride. One of the best Sonoma Pinots I've tasted from the poor 2011 vintage.

Decanted 2 hours and served with grilled strip steaks. Great wine from a spotty vintage. Mature, but lively blue fruit with a rich and complex nose and secondary profile. Spicy / floral interplay with hints of licorice and burnt toast. Fat and mouth-coating but still has a bit of tannic grip. I'd drink now if you have any.

May have waited too long for this one. Kind of "meh" overall, and a disappointment for the money. Muted black cherry fruit with a bit of earth. Still has a slight grip, but not offering much complexity.

My last bottle, and one of the best at age 15. Still well-structured, with deep purple color. Nose and palate is dominated by red cherries and cassis. Finish of graphite, and smoke with a hint of mocha.

Decanted for 45 minutes and paired with steaks at Alexanders. This is more rich and ripe than the typical Les Pavot, and quite exquisite. Powerful perfumed nose.Ample black and blue fruit + cassis on the initial attack. Long, sweet tannic finish with coffee bean, cigar box and mocha.
