This wine has such a purity to it but it's also quite tannic still and needs a ton of decanting time. After 3 hours, it started to blossom especially with rack of lamb and a wonderful berry spice shows up to accompany the succulent acidity and beautiful black currant/cassis fruit. There's also a gritty Rutherford dust note which gives this wine excellent vigor. The finish is lean and stylish with a taut, mineral intensity. Interestingly, the '13 Kronos is more open than this wine. Trusting as I do in Cathy, I'll let this one sit for 5+ more years to reach peak. 93+
Poured small tastes and decanted the rest. Extremely tight and unyielding on the nose and palate at first, showing only an intriguing whiff of wild blueberry in front of an armored wall. After two hours, this has become a lot more expressive: flowers and the same blueberry note, cassis too, edged with mint and sliding into a medium-long back end of black fruit and a little cedar. Overall impression is at the cool, blue end of the palette. Great depth, texture, and balance, but aromatically reticent; hold or decant far in advance.

Dark red color. Black currant, mineral bouquet. Smooth rich, ripe fruit entry and supple mid-palate. Still has some moddst tannins in it’s finish. Good complexity and varietal definition here. Will hold 4-5 more years, but enjoyable now. Decanted 4 hours prior to tasting.

Last bottle was about 3 years ago and at the time I rated it a 92. Opened another yesterday and gave it a 4 hr slow ox before serving. This wine was singing and is in a prime dinking window. Amazing bouquet and extra long finish. It will continue to evolve for some time but in my opinion no need to wait. Best vintage of Corison we have tasted so far. Definitely won’t wait 3 years for the next one. Enjoy!

30 minute decant. Layers of oak on the nose with notes of vanilla and a bit of wood glue. Crisp cherry layers on the palate with some purple fruit and notes of green apple and minerals. Finish shows acidity with leather and gravelly minerals. Maybe it needed a longer decant?

Bouquet with red and dark berries as well as sweet spices, green herbs, some earth and in fact still a bit reticent. On the palate red berries, chocolate, well balanced with great and fresh acidity and slightly sticky tannin. Elegant and complete wine with great elegance.

Probably the best wine we have had yet this year: Still young, but delicious. Some sediment. A high-toned, high-acidity wine, with flavors of plum, mint, and rosemary. Amazing length. It's at least five years short of its peak. If you have one or two bottles, save them. If you have more, then it is definitely worth opening one soon (at least several hours if not a whole day before you plan to drink it) to experience this stage of its evolution.
med (+) intensity of dark cherry, dark raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, lavender, (toasted oak and cigar box) that is well integrated and deferential to the fruit, forest floor; high acidity, high finely grained tannins, medium-bodied, medium alcohol, medium (+) intensity echoing the nose with an inky weight on the palate. The finish is a long one of red fruit and lavender. Very well balanced and complex.

Clearly a fantastic wine but just too young still. Not quite a wasted bottle but I think I'll put my remaining three at the back of the cellar for five years.
Dark ruby red; complex, changing nose of spices, herbs and berries; tart plum, pomegranate, white pepper, black tea flavors but very restrained, not an extrovert. Tannin still very present, nicely balanced with acidity; med long finish is already very smooth

This bottle seemed a bit off. We drank it with thanksgiving dinner as a "special wine" after having a bottle of Prisoner Cuttings ( 1/3 the price) while getting ready for dinner. The Cuttings was much more even and friendly. This one was sharp and tart. Based on the recommended drink dates maybe it was just too young.
yes! Cassis, both on the front and finish - milk chocolate duds, some clove spice on the finish, lean and elegant but still with a luxuriously textured body. Love it. This will hold for another decade for sure.

Superb. Full of ripe but not too ripe classic Napa dark fruit with plenty of richness and layers married to a serious structural underpining of sufficient acid and fine tannins that give it a nice earthy/gravelly edge on the back end.

More than a mature Bordeaux, much like some oldie Marqués de Riscal. Elegant, complex, with that point of softness that when combined with the spice notes give it that aristocratic presence that only selected wood can give and when integrated with a good wine. It is also shown balanced and with excellent length. I can confess I didn't know it before and besides being an outsider it has been the ruthless WOTN. Until the last drop.
Decanted for 3 hours. Drinking well now but needs a few more years of bottle age to reach potential. Either way you won’t be disappointed if you open sooner rather than later. Another outstanding vintage from Corison.

European style cab, tight right out of bottle & flat on the nose, relatively lighter in color than your full throttle big brand cabs. This is a more elegant approach & one that I'm hoping will open up in a day or so, will update then if so Update, after day 3, it rounded out somewhat, but remained a very bordeaux style cab

The body was lighter than expected, it’s very dry, dark, old wood, and old world style, maybe a Spaniard type of sine. Fair finish and nice balance between tannins and acidity.
I will do it again...

Soft and understated nose with a nice purple red color, nice legs and meniscus. On the palate, blue and dark red berry flavors, more of a soft feminine style. A decent wine with food, but it doesn’t show much on its own. I would describe this wine as more of an old world style and it could show better with some age, but I’m impatient. This was a pop and pour experience that didn’t show much and despite given it some air, it still didn’t change much, rather disappointing. I would call it a decent wine but it's not my style. I'm going against the CT grain in my opinion, so I won't rate this wine numerically.

Everything is balanced and in place. Doesn’t fall prey to some of the tough tannins found in many 2013s. It has good acidity and the structure is not overbearing, in harmony with the fruit. Fairly pure and elegant. A nice wine to cellar

This has a distinctive floral note on the nose; possibly lavender? The same note is present on the palate, along with blueberries and currant, with notes of savory spice and moderate smooth tannins on the medium to long finish. This is excellent and distinctive, and it has room to improve. It's a good value at about $75.
Initially a lot of oak impression but this fades a bit. Blackberry and other dark fruit with a certain sweetness on the nose. Much more structured on the palate with very good acidity and fine tannin. Aromas and mouthfeel seems to belong to different wines though. To me the mouth impression is a lot better than what the nose signals. Very likeable and approachable with good prospects.

Still young (as expected), I recommend decanting for at least an hour. Lots of energy and balanced elegance, with notes of cassis, red berries, some tobacco, and indian spices; all layered in subtle ways. This is a non-typical Napa Cab that I wish was more common and dominant (not any time soon, I fear). Has a long life ahead, I'm glad to have 10 more bottles.

Phenomenal! This Cabernet Sauvignon was amazing. PnP out of a half bottle and it was singing. Extremely elegant. Dark red fruit, light black fruit, beautiful and smooth tannins. The half bottle went too quickly! Would purchase and drink again. Shared with a friend for his birthday. He loves Napa Valley Cabernet and was thoroughly impressed.

PnP of a half-bottle after a not-so-good work day. Quick pass through aerator, a swirl, then a sip. Very nice nose and good mouthfeel, but needed more time to come together. Predominate taste on first sips was alcohol, but after only 10 minutes got much nicer. By the second glass, pretty darn good. I think I'll enjoy it much more with more cellar time and better drinking treatment.

An interesting combination of dark fruits, indicating longer hang fully ripe fruit, earthy notes and smoky oak. However the acidity is quite high and for me a little out of balance.

Opened and let breath for 90 minutes. Nose- very complex. Very floral and some spice. I picked up notes of violets, thyme, and black fruit. Palate- cherries, plums, and blackberries. Finish- medium plus. Lots of dark fruit. With a lot of air this is great right now. I'm sure it will be amazing in the future.

Very beautiful nose of violet spices and ripe cassis. The violet spice thing continues on the palate and the purity just makes my knees weak. There's plenty of power in this compared say to the '14 tasted recently and the tannins are big and slightly more robust with intense dark berry and Rutherford dust flavors and the usual mouth-watering acidity that is otherwise so rare in the Valley. Somewhat shutdown now on the finish but there is lovely nuanced complexity lurking underneath. This will need lots of time but should be fabulous down the road. 95+

This is very young, but it is going to be incredible in several years. I decanted it for two hours and left a little in the bottle to try the next day. It was even better as all the tight characteristics morphed into a nicely structured complex full bodied experience. Our kids may be enjoying some bottles of this in a few decades if we leave any.

Corison Winery Tasting (St Helena California): This wine had a more purplish hue to its visual presentation. I was excited to try the 2013 because it was such a great vintage. I have also tasted many 2013 California cabs that were really nice. This one did not disappoint! The nose contained flavors of vanilla, wet stone and rich dark fruits. Awesome acidity and structure. The taste provided flavors of vanilla, cherry and bitter chocolate. This is one that will age well and I suspect will have more flavors once aged. Also, the wine was decanted only for 2 hours prior to our tasting. I am very happy that I have some of these to rest in my cellar for the next 6 years plus. Score 94

opened for 3 hours before trying out of 375. outstanding all around - aromatic, balanced, firm rather than voluptuous (I'm tempted to use the word "powerful" but it's not "big" relative to other napa cabs)
don't drink a lot of napa cab but this could turn me. I approached this as a sampling, and then let other bottles rest... can't imagine time won't be kind to this.

This wine is just way too young for consumption at this time. Probably needs 10-12 years to show its pedigree. Reminded me of a young Pontet Canet or Clerc Milon with that old world feel and profile. Dark ruby in the glass with muted nose of pencil lead, cedar, cassis, and assorted dark fruit. Somewhat tannic at this early age but you can sense the material is here for a great evolution. Put it away at 55 degrees and revisit it in the middle of the next decade.

Showing well right now with a 2hr decant. Blueberries and fresh coffee on the nose. A lovely rich mouthful of forest fruits with acid and tannin all in perfect balance. Obviously young and needs at least another five years in bottle to put on its dancing shoes but oh soooooo drinkable tonight. Even better on day 2.
Cathy Corison is making some of the best wine in the Napa Valley these days, somehow finding that fine line between elegance and quiet power.

Corison visit- 8/12/16: Pretty aromatics of redcurrant, violets & lavender, black olive and cedar. Great juxtaposition of elegance and intensity on the palate, with nice medium mid-palate weight, and showing black currant fruit, black tea, olive, eastern spices and cedar. Silky, open-knit tannins. Full finish. It's going to be a great one. Showing well, but no doubt will age forever.

Above, there is a question on "Do you like this wine?" I am saddened that the answer that I want to give is not present; I Love It.
I don't want to steal another reviewer's words, but this wine is hauntingly beautiful. The nose is very floral. Beautiful roses, violets, lavender. It brings a smile every time I take a sniff. Very smooth on the palate with a beautiful structure. Very balanced with the low alcohol level. Very long finish with acidity and minerality. This wine is very nice at its young age and will be a superstar in the next 3-5 years. I've only bought 2 bottles, tasted one, but it looks like I will be breaking open the piggy bank and try to acquire at least half a case to watch it grow into something beautiful.

A lovely wine from Corison. The nose is highly expressive, but at the same time on the delicate side of what you would expect from valley floor Cabernet. You will notice a lot of very floral components; violets, roses, and lavender, tied up with hints of vanilla, tobacco and cocoa. On the palate, this wine is striking and beautiful. Almost haunting in a way that I typically associate with fine Nebbiolo. This wine has many years ahead of it, but is drinking really well right now.

First California cabernet I've drunk in years, so a caveat that I don't know these wines. Upon pulling the cork there's an intense nose of menthol/mint. After a few hours of air, I found the wine intriguing - like cabernet crossed with nebbiolo. Rich, dark fruit with some florals. The menthol is still there on the nose, with pencil lead. There's some decent acid, but not great. The fruit is kind of baked/cooked, not particularly fresh. The wine showed a little hot so I chilled it slightly. Still seemed a bit hot. Some leftovers were essentially unchanged on day 2. Undoubtedly I'm far too early here, but I wasn't quite won over by this bottle.

Always wonderful. Unfortunately did not have time to decant so it took a little longer to open up. Drinking well now and showing so much potential. Will not open another for a few years.

Lovely Napa cab without any extra flab.
Beautiful wine now and probably better with some years in the cellar.
A refreshing oddity when the wine isn’t treated like a commodity.

European style cab, tight right out of bottle & flat on the nose, relatively lighter in color than your full throttle big brand cabs. This is a more elegant approach & one that I'm hoping will open up in a day or so, will update then if so
Update, after day 3, it rounded out somewhat, but remained a very bordeaux style cab

Admittedly young yet but relatively more approachable already than some of the prior vintages. After two hours of decanting, floral nose, sweet red berries and indian spices on the palate. Tannins have a noticeable kick on the back palate.

Score 94
