Burgs, Birds, and Black Truffles (My place, Portland OR): Oh how I love the nose on this wine. This is pristine, polished, and refined with excellent depth to the tones of red and green apples, pears, biscuits, white fruits, baking spices, limes, toast, acacia flowers, and meyer lemons. The Medium bodied feel is deft and balanced with racy, high acidity that really makes your mouth water. This is just such a lovely Blanc de Blancs and I can't get enough of it. I do wish that it hadn't taken off in price like it has, but such is something that felt inevitable.

Might be the wispiest, most ethereal champagne I’ve had the pleasure of. Honestly would have been hard-pressed to think it was either BdB or extra brut tasted blind but was a wonderful experience. Yellow apple, a bit of the zesty citrus one expects, slightly yeasty. Mostly it’s just the mouthfeel that’s so remarkable.

2019 disgorgement. Well rounded champagne with good richness, acidity and depth. Drinking well with a few yrs of age but would be interested to see if it puts on additional weight and autolytic notes with a few more years. Paired well with seafood dishes/canapés.

En strålende champagne - spesielt for de som kan like det litt raust & syndig. Moden sitron og søt gjær, melis, wienerbrød, heftig syre veier opp, litt DP-vibber underveis i smakskurven, kledelig hint av umami og - heldigvis - nok zing. Flott lengde.

This looks to be in the same batch as the bottle from 2022, composed of 2018 base. 100% Chard, from Cramant and Chouilly, 4 grams of dosage and this disgorge date looks to be June 2021. Opened and consumed over an hour. Pounded rock aroma. Spicy and creamy green apple, with lemon peel providing the lift. This is very citrus driven, yet there is the offset of the lemony feel that is enhanced from the richness of the style and perhaps the dosage, which picks up some lemon curd tones when the temp is allowed to soften.

Wine Workshop: Chateau Palmer (Benoit): Opening bubbles with passed hors d oeuvres (which were probably some of the tastiest bites of the night). This was in a truly great spot right out of the gate. A favorite producer of mine. The bubbles just seem to melt. Very light and easy and yet still interesting. Love this producer.

Grower Bubbly Event #2: This was from a reload we found in Oregon. These wines are getting more expensive but these were $70 US each, no tax. Hard to say no to that. 2018 base, 4 grams of dosage and I just can't read the disgorge info. Yesterday this seems broad in texture, with a juicy lemon, along with ginger. It seemed more round with depth, reminding me of Larmandier-Bernier Latitude. Retasted the next day, still with CO2 and it's drinking now more lively, I wrote down brisk and delineated. There is a distinct freshness to this cuvee, and it affirms for me that the bottle earlier this year was not a fluke or a one-off good experience--this is an excellent wine as village blend and one I will keep buying.

First time trying Suenen. This is a 2017 base, disgorged in 2020
Nose of Lemmon posset and classic brioche Palate has great intensity with very tangy lemon oil, green apple skin, thyme and grapefruit. The bitterness of the latter is very apparent but the wine overall is still quite juicy, and the finish is long. With air the bitterness softens a touch a pleasant hint of creaminess creeps in.
Suspect this is rather young but the components could balance nicely with time

Have not had this in a while. Was served to me blind. 100% Chardonnay farmed organic from both Chouilly and Cramant, with just 3 grams of dosage, disgorged June 2019, using 2016 base wine. Initially aromas of pounded rock and citrus. Flavors of lemon oil, crisp green apple, with mint and a bright freshness. With air, this becomes a little more lemon curd-like yet it never loses the fresh citrus and acidity. Damn, this showed excellent.

(2017 base), I thought this was quite fine- pear and apple, some dried lavender, pastry crustcrisp and snappy. John said not as deep as the 2018 base, but I don’t have that comparison, so I was quite satisfied. A-/B+

Meals in France; 3/21/2022-3/26/2022 (France): Seemed more "Brut Nature" vs "Extra Brut" to me, this is a powerful glass of sparkling Chardonnay with teeth rattling acidity. So much here, but a little more levity in the form of dosage would have made this a gem for me.

100% Cardonnay, exclusively from vineyards aged more than 35 and located in Cote des Blancs, more precisely in the Grand Cru villages of Cramant and Chouilly.

Pale lemon towards straw yellow colour.
A bit tight nose just after opening, but some touch of ripe apples, minerality, nuts and yeast.
Bold and concentrated with tiny small bubbles with an elegant mousse, fresh balanced acidity and fruity. Rounded with minerality and a beautiful aroma of brioche, nuts and butter. Long and fuller finish with a dry exit.

Charleston VI; 11/3/2021-11/7/2021 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): To be fair this was well overshadowed by an earlier brunch where we were drinking 30-40 year old wines but I still do enjoy these. The nose is oxidative with hints of lemon peel, underripe green apple, pie crust and white flowers. The palate follows the nose, and while the oxidative flavors predominate, the lemon plays a bigger role. A pleasant salinity appears on the long, tapering finish.
There's good acidity but the wine never feels austere, like some grower Champagnes. Dosage was 4g/l and tastes ever so slightly sweet. Tasty now and should improve with a few more years sideways.

The wine shows brightness, medium intensity, citrus, lime, grapefruit freshness and brioche. The wine shows full on intensity, high acidity, citrus, quince, notes of honey, ripe stone fruits, medium body and finish. There are oxidative notes, its crunchy and grippy, a high octane champagne. I liked this one less than the Ouiry. This is even richer, seems more wood and it may need much longer to mature, definitely not ready now, with some unpleasant green notes. Disgorged 25/06/2020. 4g/l. Maybe a 2017 base vintage? not clear, it is written Boise 2017, maybe that is the reserve in wood.

2017 disgorgement. Somewhat muted nose, with apple notes, cider. Palate is chalky, and quite minerally. hints of citrus fruits, white flower, lemony verbany, hints of iron on the back palate. Can see this pairing quite well with oysters from Normandy.

Disgorged April 2019. This doesn't seem ready to me - herbal, citrusy, relatively sharp flavours of raw apple, a little short, stony and austere. Fine-boned but far from as attractive as the glass I had in a restaurant a few months ago.

Disgorged 25/05/2016. This had a nice richness to it on the palate, but still had the zip of a BdB. Quite nice on its own, but easily had the stuff to be a nice cleanser alongside shrimp creole. Another Champagne that I need to buy more of.
Agree with other reviews, it starts of subtle and finessed but builds in intensity to a balanced apple orchard. thoroughly recommend using a burgundy glass to let it sing even more.

This wine has an interesting trajectory in the mouth, starting relatively understated (but definitely tasty) and then, via crescendo of flavour, leaving a big impression on the finish. Not sure when this particular bottle was disgorged but it seemed nicely mature and on the sophisticated side of austere. I really liked the finesse and energy and am looking forward to trying more Suenen.

Nose: The nose is wide open, aromatic, and fresh as it fills the glass with peaches, pears, green apples, saline, acacia flowers, chalk, flint, biscuits, sea breeze, oyster shells, and warm dough. This smells like a Grand Cru Chablis, but in Champagne form.
Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with racy, high acidity. The acidity has some edge to it while the feel is well balanced and precise with peaches, pears, green apples, saline, acacia flowers, flint, oyster shells, warm dough, and biscuits.
Overall: This was from a 2015 base. This bottle is pure joy for Chardonnay fans if what you like is a more precise and salinic wine.

Blend from Cramant and Chouilly hence C+C, 2015 base. I tasted Suenen only once a couple of years ago and found it a little thin but this was very good fizz. A huge whiff on green apples, fresh and light with good acid lift. Pairs well with most food I would imagine.

Always like the champagnes from this producer. I think they need some time in the glass to open up and stretch their legs a bit. They are good right away, but there's an extra layer to them that comes through as it warms a bit and does well.

Wine in the time of Corona Virus - Quarantining in NYC & NH; 3/7/2020-9/1/2020 (NYC/NH): Memorial Day - socially distanced picnic in Bryant Park. After the '86 Taittinger Comté - this was quite a change up, but still interesting and enjoyable. Base wine 2016 - Disgorged 11/6/19, 3 g/l dosage. Super young - this was sacrificed for research and celebration (my friends like Suenen and I think this is one they have not tried yet). More to the racy, energetic side with lots of chalk, fruit leaning to pear flavors and minerals. I quite enjoyed this for a young champagne that definitely seems age worthy - let these lie if you have them.

Since finding this producer a few months ago I've been on a bit of a buying spree. This producer is wonderful with those racy champagnes that are typically accompanied by more unique style flavors. This was young and a good learning that we might want to give (at least some) of ours more time. It softened nicely in the glass.

Candied white flowers, lemon peel, green apple, apricot, biscuit, pepper, and salted caramel There is a real acid cut and tight mineral nature to this champagne which balances the rich fruit and autolytic aspects really well.

These Suenen wines are so damn appealing. Its Extra Brut, but so packed that it feels broader and breadier than you might except. There is some tropical fruit that feels lush, but finishes with edgy tart green apple. Cool and Lively. Racy and Invigorating. Youthful. Just got better and better as it opened. Terrific. Would to leave some alone for a bit but that never seems to happen.

Appealing cooked butterscotch/caramel nose. At first, broad and almost creamy on the palate, despite being very young and rather coiled. Green apple and tart-lemon flavors linger. Cool and Lively. Acid abounds. Racy. Youthful. Last glass was the best glass as it really opened and softened a bit. Nice.

This reminds me of the 12 Marguet Shaman, as it has a lean and mean core at this stage. Disgorged May 2016, 2g/l with a base of 2013 wine. Lots of citrus here and coiled energy, with some riper apple just faintly on the edges. Refreshing and restrained together and in need of time to soften.

2012 Barolo peek (Chicago, IL): 2013 base, disgorged 5/26/2016, 2 g/L dosage. Crispy. That was my first impression of this wine. The acidity here is so snappy, and there's just a slight touch of oxidation here that adds a lot of complexity. It's not overbearing, so the freshness of the chardonnay shows very clearly. Mineral and light, with just a bit of sweet yellow fruit.

Disgorged April 2019. This doesn't seem ready to me - herbal, citrusy, relatively sharp flavours of raw apple, a little short, stony and austere. Fine-boned but far from as attractive as the glass I had in a restaurant a few months ago.

Disgorged 6/26/20. Lean and compact with tart green apple, lemon, and mineral. Some sweet vanilla in the back but mostly austere. Nothing more than well made and refreshing now but give it time.

More lush and ripe then expected. Front facing apple orchard, cider, somewhat sweet apple palate. Perhaps a monolithic. Juicy and ripe for an extra brut.

Disgorged 25/05/2016. This had a nice richness to it on the palate, but still had the zip of a BdB. Quite nice on its own, but easily had the stuff to be a nice cleanser alongside shrimp creole. Another Champagne that I need to buy more of.

Very, very elegant. Slim, narrow and thinn. Almost boring at first sip but the wine develop fine in my burgundy glass.
Sophisticated and pure. More floral and perfyme rather than fruit. Like a symphony on my palate. Maybe too pricy?

Delicious and mouthwatering with forward apple/cider type notes. Super enjoyable Thanksgiving wine.

Blend from Cramant and Chouilly hence C+C, 2015 base. I tasted Suenen only once a couple of years ago and found it a little thin but this was very good fizz. A huge whiff on green apples, fresh and light with good acid lift. Pairs well with most food I would imagine.

Base vintage 2015
Toffee, ripe apples, lemon, minerality, in the nose.
Grilled lemon, red apples, chalky minerality, a touch of peach, a nice grape bitterness in a fresh finish.

Not very bubbly, more subdued. But bready, yeasty and low level funk with clean, crisp apple and pear notes. Finishes with a salty note

Always like the champagnes from this producer. I think they need some time in the glass to open up and stretch their legs a bit. They are good right away, but there's an extra layer to them that comes through as it warms a bit and does well.

I really like this producer. This is softer than the Oiry, nose is still chalky and bright with brioche, honeysuckle, and light citrus. Palate has has ripe pear, green apple, and dry flinty notes.

Fine bubbles, high acid - fresh and lively. Ginger candy, chalk, key lime pie, fleshy apples. After being opened a bit the finish kind of watered down.

This is such a pure and fine blanc de blancs - green apples, lime, almonds, vanilla, pineapple, chalk, butter cracker - and such a long and pure aftertaste. Base 2015 disgorged June 2018.

2015 Base - Disgorged on Feb 11, 2018 with 4g/L dosage - 100% Grand cru chardonnay from Chouilly and Cramant
Candied white flowers, lemon peel, green apple, apricot, biscuit, pepper, and salted caramel
There is a real acid cut and tight mineral nature to this champagne which balances the rich fruit and autolytic aspects really well.

Nice.

This was pretty damn good. Classic cote de blanc champagne. It's on the more high toned side, not as rich or powerful as Le Menil.
Enjoyed this quite a bit at $45 (from Sec Wines) but at ~$70 it's a lot less appealing.

Mineral driven, light and crispy fresh Champagne. Vibrant acidity.
C+C = Chouilly and Cramant Grand Cru. 100% Chardonnay.
Base 2014. Disgorged November 2017.
I think Suenen is great grower with lots of potential. The winemaker you should keep on your watchlist.
