Belated birthday meal: Ever generous pull from a friend. A wonderful example of mature Burgundy, thought this was a very good grand cru from an old-school winemaker. Deep, earthy nose, dark red cherry fruit with lots of sous-bois. Old Fourrier may not be as sexy as today's but this was spectacular. I actually prefer this to the style that is in vogue now.

Garnet with some browning at the edge. Aromas that make you swoon-citrus peel, red berry fruit, cinnamon, herbs, char, and soil. Light to medium body, poised and beautifully balanced with wonderful fruit/acidity/soil interplay. Subtle and mature, alluring, gentle mouth feel. I can hardly imagine tasting this at a better time point. Seductive, winning Premier Cru.

Gevrey Jacques Tasting (Chicago + Zoom): The group thought it might be heat damaged, I'm not so sure, it offered some pleasure but seemed more muted than you'd expect. Meaty, earthy black cherry aromas. The palate has plenty of round fruit and lots of sous bois action. Good structure remaining.

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Tasting ("The Jacques") (Chicagoland IL): Slightly heat damaged? Far from where this great wine performed last time I tasted it.
