10/12, vg cork. Pale/medium garnet core, wide pale garnet rim. Quietly aromatic with pure red fruit, savoury game notes, spice, touch of caramel. Medium bodied, lovely pure strawberry fruit on initial entry, quite gamey too, elegant but by no means lean - middleweight in fact - very fine tannins, fresh/vibrant acidity carries a good length finish showing a combination of pure fruit and savoury notes. This is excellent, the best bottle so far, no particular hurry.

Best showing of this yet, and typically my last bottle. A similar savoury edge to the Cherbaudes alongside, but a density of richer and redder fruit to cover the savouriness and provide a real sense of richness and luxe. A clear step up. Currently in a good spot and worked well with veal sweetbreads and morels stuffed with shallot and foie gras. ****

Pulled from cellar to celebrate birth of first grandchild! I don’t usually decant burgundy but previous notes suggested some Fourrier fizz so I did. Small glass just after decanting and it was singing . Nose spectacular, game and warm leaves and earth. Palate rich and firm with depth and power. Continued to develop through the evening and delicious. None of the 2004 green notes. No doubt skewed by the emotions of the day but this was a cracking bottle.

(Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St.Jacques) Medium, medium-plus cherry-red colour. The nose starts wide and creamy - I though a little lactic too but this was transient - quickly taking on a forward cream coverd red cherry aspect and eventually coffee notes too. Understated, concentrated and tons of mid-palate dimension - many of these wines are one-dimensional in comparision. The fruit is so well done that it completely buries any necessity to discuss acidity or tannin. The creamy finish is understated but very long. Really top-class wine.

Showing great after double decanting for a couple of hours. Was nasty at the get go.
