Old wines are always a treat to see the speed with which the taste changes. Upon opening, the vintage was closed for the first 5 minutes, then fully opened after 10 minutes with fruit, tertiary flavours of tobacco, cedar and blackberries. After 20 minutes, the life disappeared and it was flat but drinkable. A 30 minute joy of living art.

Bottle decanted for four hours. This opened up tremendously. What was dul has now become alive with stronger fruit body, more succulent and darker toasty notes. Earthy and brooding. What a surprise.

Brickish red with fading at the sides. Dusty sour cherries, lots of ferrous minerality and rust going on. Good acidity though disjointed for such an age. Some sweet fruit left but nothing to fault for such an elderly claret.
