Dark garnet, but not opaque. Lovely nose of blue fruit and floral notes. Tastes of plum, blackberry, violets and cinnamon. Still some tannin. Has earthy undertone, like a Burgundy, but has more fruit/floral profile more reminiscent of a Bordeaux. Drinking very well, but has the structure to last many more years.

in a great place now. nose peppery and meaty with classic italian earth. palate light with acidic bite and the depth of age. there is a firmly present streak of black currants, sour cherries, and tobacco. savory. some faint tannin remains. drinks like a well aged chianti in rhone clothing.

This Schioppettino has not aged perceptively in the last year and is consistent with my August 2017 tasting note. Interestingly, it is somewhat reminiscent of a lighter Northern Rhone Syrah. It is still drinking well now and should continue to age well for several more years.

dense and dark, nose strongly pepper and fresh oregano. some roast meat there as well. medium bodied with mild acidity. blackberries, herb, and more black pepper on the savory palate. medium length finish. moderate tannin. unique, somewhat simple, good.
