Wine of the night. Excellent definition of cocoa and raisin cookie both on the palette and nose. Fruit is holding well. Lovely tannin integration and perfect acidity.
What a joy to drink this!

Dark red coloring, with a light brown rim. Aromas of cocoa, coffee, smoke, and red cherries.
Delightful and dry. The aromas carry over to the palate exactly as they smelled. Adding pepper, tobacco, and red fruits that are still so lively. For a wine that is 27 years old, it's in a great drinking window currently. It's mature but still lively and youthful. A great find for the price. A grape variety and wine that are definitely unique.

Neighborhood friends late night at Maison Dakota. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Thin legs. Nose medium intensity, with aromas of decayed taugeh bean sprouts, woody dried earth, sour red cherries, polished red plums. Developed. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium- alcohol (12.5%), smooth integrated high tannins with grip to the end (woody oak tannins?), full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of vegetal decayed earth, sweet red plums, sour red cherries, savoury black fruit, sweet tea leaves. Long finish. Good quality. Time to drink up and enjoy. Has that drying out old aged Claret feel.

Amazing wine! Almost perfect. Texture, aroma, notes, a symphony in my mouth.
12.5%, etheric and fleeting yet solid and congealing into fantastic herbal delicacy with anise, wild hot herbs, ephemeral texture, complex as the middle, not heaven, not hell, but right there in between with a juice that baffles my palate. I will have to revisit.
I feel as though I don't deserve this, as my Viking ancestral palate craves the rugged and funky. This is like an elegant thing for a refined individual, while I am a fat wide tire on a Hummer rolling across rocky terrain deserving of something far more wild, yet I enjoy this for its finesse. I can pretend that I am of this ilk. Yet it is only pretending.
When Rocco showed this to me for the price of $75 I couldn't say no!
it needs at least a 5 hour decant, and will obviously last many more years. Low alcohol wines are a joy to find, especially of this quality.
Ronchi di Cialla Schioppettino di Cialla Vertical (Shanghai): Deep garnet colour. The wine is dominated by tertiary scents: deep toast coffee, smoky, savory, spicy, mint, mushroom, dried berry. High acidity slim the body, tannin has been refined and smooth. SHorter finish than the 2004/2007. Drink now. Would decline very soon.
