LC's bottle. Swampy and necrotic to my tastes. I was told that later, with some effort, some fruit was detected but no way it was in the same park with TASHNYC's previous note on this wine.

This is my favorite wine on the EnoTerra wine list (Kingston, NJ). Great nose. Tastes of dark fruit, leather, berries and spice. Like the others, surprisingly tannic for an old wine: could age longer. To me this wine is like “Bordeaux in Italy”.
Delicious on its own and with the pork ragu (or lamb ragu, which we didn’t order). Not bad with the smoked, grilled ribeye. Didn’t go with the prosciutto.
Drink now.

Delicious on its own and with the ragu. Not as good a pairing with the gnocchi with asparagus and cream sauce ( unsurprisingly - although that dish was delicious on its own). To me this is as good as the 1995 vintage.

Very interesting wine--it had that meaty, peppery savoriness on the nose that others noted is reminiscent of mature Northern Rhone, along with cassis and a bit of an herbal tomato note. On the palate, it's a bit round with fully integrated tannins and a relatively short finish I suspect this is on the far edge of its peak--drink now.
