This had a timeless light colour, lighter than its flight mate 22 years it’s junior; a brilliantly complex multi-faceted wine with lime citrus cocooned in lanolin constantly changing and evolving with grapefruit, stone fruits, floral, herb and mineral notes. Thrillingly good.

Much better than the previous bottle, the nose was packed with bees wax, lemon grass, honeysuckle, burnt orange rind, and marmalade. Opulent, fresh, honeyed and intense, this is showing fabulous on its 40th birthday.

(Laville Haut Brion) Recently purchased from a private cellar acquisition by us (CSW) this was very good wine but not in a style I care for. The nose had moss, wood spice, wax, lanolin, some dried citrus fruits. It was a nice nose but not particularly divine in any way. The palate was heavy-handed but had a nice mouthfeel and exquisite balance. There was a nice core of concentrated citrus fruit and intense earthy minerality and zowie Batman! acidity there. The finish was long and I got a couple memorable sips out of it but ultimately I understand why I have 0 bottles of White Bordeaux in my cellar. It is a very particular style of wine that comes pretty close to reminding me of a mild spirit. Very good stuff but you can see why White Bordeaux is not as popular as it once was...if it ever was popular.
(Château Laville Haut-Brion Blanc) Very dark yellow color; oily, lanolin, earthy nose; tasty, subtle, oily textured, delicate citrus palate; medium finish, in great shape for its age

well stored bottle but not in perfect shape. Feels tired, wet stones and perfumed through the SB. 91

From a magnum. Consistent with previous note. Should drink up.
