Big United Cellars Chardonnay tasting...all in brackets but seemingly random (actually seemed to be based on the importer) so the tasting notes are in the order of serving.
A few handy wines here.
NV Domaine Henri Richard Crémant de Bourgogne
France, Burgundy, Crémant de Bourgogne
medium minus intensity aromas of a little wet clay, chalk over lemon. Medium plus intensity acidity, lemon tang, quite sharp, crisp mousse, a little textured, short <shrugs>

2019 Domaine Bernard Defaix Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Medium minus intensity aromas of stone fruit with a little lemon, very slight struck match. With time (and hand warmth) this blossoms to show lovely, generous but not overripe fruit. Medium plus intensity acidity is juicy and there is a touch of leesy texture, fruit travels beneath this medium plus length. Nice.

2019 Verget Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
medium minus intensity aromas of smoked bacon, chalky minerality over lemon citrus. With time it starts to show a little more stone fruit, touch of creamy lees. Juicy acidity, fleshy, fresh, balanced, long, citrus and stone fruit, fat mid palate without being blousy, pretty good.

2020 De Grendel Chardonnay Op Die Berg
South Africa, Coastal Region
Peachy fruit, struck match, a little lime note, butter, backed by dusty sweet spices. Pronounced acidity makes everything rather pointy and this, with some bitter savouriness, rather ruins the palate. Nah.

2019 Tenuta Cucco Langhe Chardonnay
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
Low intensity aromas show a little cream with floral top notes, opens with time in the glass showing tomato leaf and a little stone fruit. Juicy acidity, tightly textured...tannic in fact, drying. a whisper of citrus. Nah.

2014 Famille Carabello-Baum Chassagne-Montrachet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
Crikey. I thought I'd already had some reductive wines but this is the boss...struck match and bacon fat...with agitation a little wild ferment funkiness as well on the nose. Juicy, fleshy but, flavourwise, it's wild ferment and struck match all the way. Nah.

2010 Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay Art Series
Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
Slightly metallic note initially then a little stone fruit but served very cold. With hand heat the fruit ripens and begins to show a little more generosity. In the mouth it has medium plus intensity acidity, lemon and lemon peel, a touch of tertiary honey and butter, all travel long, rather nice.

Aromas of lemon, stone fruit; peach with a smidge of apricot, sweet spice, an impression of fruit forwardness. In the mouth it has juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, citrus over stone fruit, a little sweet spice with the merest gentle burr. Simple but nice.

2020 Pierro Chardonnay Fire Gully

2020 Pierro Chardonnay Margaret River
Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
Aromas of stone fruit, citrus, struck match, cheesy, polished oak; sweet spice. With time an almost candy floss. Fresh acidity, the oak is a little dominant at the moment, time required to let the fruit show (peaches especially) but this is, for me, pretty unapproachable and disjointed at the moment.

2020 Shaw and Smith Chardonnay M3 Vineyard
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
Struck match, bacon fat, peach, butter, the reductive note begins to dissipate with time, butter, polished oak. Medium plus intensity acidity, tangy and quite savoury, that reductive note on the palate as well, a little texture, butter and oak here as well. It's slightly out of whack for me at the moment.

2018 Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay Vintner's Reserve
USA, California
Butter, a little tomato leaf and, with time, a little oak begins to show; the fruit (which is quite tropical) plays second fiddle here. And the palate is all oak and butter, vanilla, caramel, touches of burnt sugar and tropical fruit. Nah

2019 La Crema Chardonnay Russian River Valley

2019 Les Vignobles Foncalieu Chardonnay Vin de Pays d'Oc Le Versant
France, Languedoc Roussillon, Vin de Pays d'Oc
Medium minus intensity aromas prove a little savoury, meaty, touches of clay with a smidge of ripe stone fruit that grows with time, backed by butter and a touch of caramel. With time in the glass it begins to fade a little. Soft acidity, muted fruit, it's quite flat on the palate for me and finishes a touch bitter and short. Nah.

2019 Domaine Louis Moreau Chablis 1er Cru Le Clos Martin
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Jubey peachy elements with floral top notes, sweetly spiced, a little richer than I would have expected from a Chablis. Touch of citrus here as well, lovely nose. Medium plus intensity acidity in the mouth with a similar fruit profile, fresh but doesn't travel very long. Okay.

2017 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Corton-Charlemagne
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Rich, butter, polished oak over stone fruit, slightly reductive, smells quite round as well. medium plus intensity acidity is a little sharp and the fruit tends to the citrus rather than stone fruit, oak is very present. Too young and out of whack for me at the moment.

2018 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Had a taste from a new bottle to confirm what was going on. Served cold but, even with this, it showed aromas of lemon, green apple and little butter...In the mouth it's juicy with fleshy fruit. Balanced. Pretty good.
