Showing some development in last two years. Still delicious. Suave satiny texture. Extremely elegant with deceptive depth. Red fruits, cranberry, cherry pit, potpourri spice, sous bois. Very very long finish relative to its weight. Day two it had less fruit and energy than day one.

Intoxicating aromas soaring from the glass. Floral, intense and clean. High acidity of the vintage is apparent but not intrusive. Tannins are mostly resolved. Sweet and slightly rustic, bit of oak still coming through at backend. Glorious wine as usual, at least NM called it correctly. Glad I still have 18 bottles of this. Eventually '96 Rousseau Chambertin will be a better wine but not over the last few years. Superb on the second day, round, aromatic, and complex, best bottle yet, up the score. Decanting is recommended. This still in upswing and should reach its peak in 3 to 5 years, probably last another 10 to 15 years after that. Acidity will keep this alive for a long time. (A+)

2017 Villa d’Este Wine Symposium - Kelly and Kevin's excellent adventure; 11/9/2017-11/14/2017 (Villa D’este, Lake Como and Milan): The most elegant, pure, balanced and enjoyable wine of the CSJ flight. Beautifully perfumed nose displaying raspberry water, crushed blackberry, rose, exotic spices, sesame and strong limestone. Perfectly harmonious palate, airy and weightless, so finely layered subtle red fruit, bright acidity, incredibly mineral and a seamless subtle red fruit and sesame driven finish. The palate to die for, simply ethereal. Can a seven year red Burgundy be drinking perfectly? For me, yes!

Wildman 2012 Burgundy Preview and Barrel Tastings (New York, NY): Tasting pour. Holy mother of God this was the wine of the whole tasting. Effing gorgeous mineral nose almost reminiscent of Styrofoam, spice out the wazoo, stems adding complexity, take me now Lord. Wooow. Need a cry and a nap after this. Debated about trying to purchase a bottle.

2019 Birthday wines: Nick's wine - served double blind - was ruby, moving to garnet in colour. A beautiful bouquet, the sort of wine you don't feel the need to drink, just merely wishing to sit in a corner sniffing over the next hour or so. Layered and multi-dimensional. Florals, spices, warm earth, largely red berries and cherries, truffles, tobacco etc etc. On palate, a great Grand Cru, transcending Gevrey-Chambertin typicity. "The spice and acidity of a Vosne Grand Cru, or of a great Musigny", noted Rauno. Dense and palate coating. Very detailed and complex. Power with balance and incredible intensity. "Sitting on its optimal drinking plateau for a few years", as Nick said. Finishing the last part glass two days later, the bouquet had moved more secondary - more earth, tobacco and some old leather - as had the palate, The fruit was also more preserved than fresh red berries, with the autumn leaf and dry brushwood elements more prominent. My wine of the year.

Lovely, expressive nose. Red fruits - cherries and strawberries. But there is also a dark, earthy, iron component. The palate is intense and is carried by finely balanced acids and tannins. It's got the precise, 'correct', Rousseau stamp of approval. Not a thing out of place. And so much life ahead of it still.

Sommelier Appreciation Dinner 2019 (The Brown Residence): Medium expressive nose displaying concentrated ripe black fruit, dark milk chocolate, sap, rose, dark spices and limestone. Exceptional concentration, nicely layered concentrated slightly roasted black fruit, dense and rich, good acidity, strong mineral presence, surprisingly pronounced tannins and a long concentrated black fruit driven finish with rose and sap at the end. It expresses the ripe 05 vintage typicity more so than the producer signature. Needs minimum ten more years.

Drank side-by-side with 17' Rousseau Lavaux St. Jacques. The 18' CSJ was more approachable and overall drank better than the 17', but both wines were showing quite young compared to the 14' Mugnier Amoureuses and the 16' Bizot Bourgogne also on the table. Lovely wine, will be better with time.

After a Brûlée’s Grivot 2014. Firstly kudos to Rousseau for using a longer cork - frankly Grivots corks are ridiculously short alas half bottle. Same cork maker. Shame on Grivot. Back to the wine: Rousseaus CSJ14 is gorgeous. A sense of place with the most refined Gevrey aromas wafting from the glass indicating a step up over the Grivot in intensity already. Not quite as filigree as the Brûlée’s but infinitely more potent without sacrificing balance and filigranity. The palate reveals a deep core centre of sour cherries, Asian plum, Assam tea, gravel with a kiss of gentle well integrated oak at this point that shall see this mellow and age in style. First rate really and a vindication of a distinctly mediocre non descript Clos Ruchottes 14 I had a year back. I have two bottle of this left and the next will be in ten and the last in twenty years. Could become a truly special wine.

My last bottle opened 5 hours prior consumption,
great smell, smoky, forest floor, cherry, red cassis,
up front and sleek on the palate, so ready for business with a decant, some spice, really deep and multilayered well structured, fresh cherry fruit, the pure lingering finish, extraordinary bottle, will keep this condition surely for a decade+ more, ***(*-*****)

The 93 Rousseau CSJ was not good. My friend opened 2 bottles and left one that was undrinkable at home. The 2nd one wasn’t much better. Just tired and over the hill. Bottle wasn’t heat damaged that we could tell. The 2nd bottle was drinkable, but just very little fruit and not a moving wine. 85 points

Armand Rousseau Dinner: Pronounced nose intensity with notes of flora, violet, red cherry, mushroom, strawberry, graphite. Medium+ acidity and medium tannin. Long finish. Aeration in the bottle around 4 hours. Finesse on both palate and nose.

The 2010 Clos St. Jacques is the real deal and another proof why those wines are that rare and expensive. It’s the (nearly) perfect combination of pure elegance, tension, focus but also power combined with an incredible drinkability. Dancing on the red fruit, grapefruit and some herbs back and forth and flowing down the throat like water. A truly great wine and definitely Grand Cru level imo. Nothing more to add.

Coravin- fun, so poured a full Bourgogne glass, choose this vintage cause found some other bottles in a very good condition right now, and the 2009 vintage is more open than others,
the nose is full of herbs and meaty aromas, flowered, earthy, in the background some dark fruit,
the palate shows nearly the same, not much fruit today, a lot of steak meat and forest floor, good spicy flow, all on the very elegant side, not much weight but deepness of flavors here, think, needs some more time in the bottle to reveal more, very long intense finish, not sure how to rate this, **(*-****), around 91, 92(+) potential, for today

2014 red Burgundy tasting w/ incredible whites served blind (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner, VA): Beautiful harmonious nose displaying crushed blackberry, a hint of raspberry, caramel, sap, espresso bean and limestone. Already showing beautiful harmonious palate, silky and fluid, finely layered fresh blackberry and espresso bean driven palate impression, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, incredibly fine tannins and a seamless pure black and red fruit driven finish with a hint of sap and espresso bean at the end. My guess is the Fourrier CSJ but the finesse makes me to quickly correct myself as the Rousseau. With air, the nose and palate become sensual and perfectly harmonious.

This is an A+ villages -- drinks like a 1er or higher (and priced accordingly). Intense on the nose and palate. The fruit concentrated but super fresh and crunchy, and this shows moderate complexity. Long finish.

This uphill and stony terroir, above Mazy haut, like the Clos du Fonteny, delivers the most airy wines in Gevrey. Red fruited, with subtle spices and oak perfectly integrated, this wine was elegant, juicy, sappy, ending in a bright and long finish. Typical 2014 with its matt and restrained profile 3 hours of air brought to the fore more power and some black fruits. If it was opened a tad young, it was a nevertheless a vg companion to a T bone matured for 370 days.

White Truffle Dinner (Domani Restaurant, Pacific Place, Admiralty, Hong Kong): Transparent light ox-blood red in colour. Nosh is....GOSH!....rich, heady, powerful red cherry fruit, spices, sandalwood, incredibly complex and muscular. Palate is beautifully curvaceous with a sharp but refreshing acidic definition. WOW!..... a huge wave of reverberance on the finish. This takes you into reveries. Beautiful. Still a very young wine in terms of its development potential but so wonderful to drink now.

Last of 6, decanted an hour, perfect cork and level, couple of steps up on bottle last noted here in 15, now approaching maturity and more complex than hitherto, red fruit driven with attractive sour raspberry component, Rousseau class shines through and sheer persistence of flavours impresses, even though for me (not some others) this was pipped by the Vogue Amoureuses 99. VF (18.5)……...the so called pundits (eg Jancis Robinson) pronounced this to be a weak vintage and encouraged early drinking, truly terrible advice for wines at this level and more generally for Cotes de Nuits!
