2005 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les ChaignotsPinot Noir more |
5/11/2021 - yodamark Likes this wine: 98 pointsI have had at least 50 Chevillon Burgs over past 20 years and i'm yet to find a bad one. Often in weaker vintages he is still making great wines. And in particular i have been impressed time and again with his 2005 Nuits Premier Cru's. First time for "Chaignots" from this vintage for me and in my opinion the best of them all. This was brooding and too young but coming into the first drinking window of what will be 30+ years drinking pleasure. Rich, verging on full bodied ( completely the opposite of the Maniere Suchots next to it) , fat and laden with a small dark berry and sous bois , charry nose. Palate same with raspberry, complex savoury but sweet spices. balanced and long, acid and tannins settled down nicely. it continued to evolve and flower over 2 hours. just absolutely yummy stuff. the pick of the 3 pinots for me. And a relative bargain at auction if you can find it. From Timmy Bird's cellar. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

In bocca è equilibrato ed elegante richiamando l'esplosione di frutta mostrata al naso. Concentrato, con molta materia e con finale lungo e persistente. Che meraviglia, una bottiglia Emozionante!!! (pagato al ristorante Euro 106). |

Perfectly resolved and yet so vibrant and fresh. There was an incredible little burst of sexy pomegranate and strawberries that really sets this wine apart. Everything about this wine blew me away. Left me thinking once again how Chevillon deserves a spot at the same table with DRC, Rousseau, Roumier and Mugnier. Delineated, intellectual, silky and yet unmistakably Nuit St George stature. |

In great shape but drinking superbly right now. Popped and poured. If you've ever wondered what a $300 plus Burg taste like but don't have the budget to drink one, snap up a btl of this wine immediately if, you can find it. For those in the know, Chevillon's greatness is no secret. Grab them before they become out of reach for most of us like Mugnier, Rousseau, DRC and Dujac have. Not a huge wine but rather has the unique depth and intellectual experience only great Burgundy can deliver. 02 seems like a great vintage for Chevillon. Why didn't I snap these up at the outrageous $60 release price??? |

2/20/2022 - Tranquility Base Likes this wine: 97 pointsTremendous bottle. I think this was better than the previous one I opened maybe 2-3 years ago. I agree with others that this wine is at a lovely peak, but I do think it could age further. |

And only, because this is just a smidge more primary then the '90 Beaucastel. That said, this was a dream Burg with great finesse, lovely fruit and depth. The texture was sublime. The nose was so vibrant and so fresh. Only missing component is some forest floor on the nose which should emerge with time. This was drinking very very well! Drink or hold. |

This one btl is the poster btl for great Burgundy with significant blt age. It also continues to confirm why Robert Chevillon is one of my top 5 producer in all of Burgundy. This had amazing depth on a lovely evolved silky but fresh frame. |

4/15/2022 - Charlie Carnes Likes this wine: 96 pointsWow! This 2005 was absolutely stunning from the get-go. First of all I love Cailles from Chevillon! My first thoughts… Are 2005s coming around? I do not know but this NSG is bad ass. This Is crunchy with gorgeous red fruit and mineral, with a whole cluster feel (I do not know the regimen at all). It is 17 years young and not saying “oak” at all. I cannot get over the pure red berry fruit and myriad spices from a bakers cupboard, and thoughts of dusty clay and granite mineral. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

11/26/2020 - NostraBacchus Likes this wine: 96 pointsDeep ruby color with a touch of brightening up towards the rim. This takes a small moment in the glass, but unfolding beautifully with notes of pure red fruit, cranberries, red cherries, but also some dark red fruit, some smoke, sweet spices, minerality, a touch of sous-bois, also some white pepper. It‘s medium-full bodied, with excellent mid-palate persistence, medium+ tannin that is perfectly silky, high acidity providing a lot of tension and brightness. There is this cool, tense, cold-climate style Burgundy can show in the colder vintages when there is still enough matière to be substantial. Excellent length with beautiful purity and tension. |

11/25/2021 - NostraBacchus Likes this wine: 96 pointsThis is at a slightly more difficult stage with the immediate fruit tamed and the tertiary notes not really developped yet. Still young and slightly closed, it opens up a little with a 2 hour decant. The texture is still pure silk and the mouthfeel is Grand Cru all day long. Superb elegance, silky tannin excellent freshness (even in this warm year) and all this needs is a few more years in bottle. There is so much potential here! |

3/28/2011 - Keith Levenberg wrote: 96 pointsA bona fide WOW wine that seriously added to my confusion why the 2008 vintage is not being considered an absolute top-rank, five-star trophy vintage. This doesn't lack in any way compared to a vintage like 2005 or 1999. In fact, like the biggest vintages, the concentration of this when I first opened the bottle was almost too much, with a density of fruit that bordered on inky. As often occurs with pinots showing such an initial burst of fruit, it began to mellow and show its underlying contours and additional detail with a bit of breathing time, and in this case there was so very much to reveal, with this layer of stony earth so powerful it actually manages to overtake the fruit. |

Although it's still so young, the depth and concentration this wine has while still being incredibly elegant and silky smooth is amazing. Deep, lush, and complex, with great texture and a long, expansive finish. To steal a line from Tanzer: A dead person could identify this as Burgundy. |

4/20/2023 - morv Likes this wine: 96 pointsThe 2009 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles is currently showing well, and appears to be in its prime drinking window. The wine displays a rather dark color with a lot of energy. On the nose, there is a rich concentration of dark berry fruit along with a subtle note of wood floor. The palate is intense, with very fine tannins that add to the wine's overall complexity, and a seemingly endless finish. |

1/30/2020 - br_winelover Likes this wine: 96 points95-96(+?)pts. Very young at almost eight years of age, but already expressive after 10+ hours decanting. It has grand cru body and weight (Les Saint Georges is said to be "the grand cru" of Nuits-Saint-Georges, and this bottle corroborates somewhat this), but at the same time it is silky and round. Excellent complexity, long, and with chewy tannins. It was my wife's birthday and she loved this too. A great wine that might deserve one or two points more after a decade from now. |

1/28/2018 - NostraBacchus Likes this wine: 96 pointsMedium-darker ruby color. Still young but showing beautiful notes of raspberries, red currant, cranberries, also some dark red berries, some white pepper, darker minerality, notes of steel, cough drops, also some sweet spices and still a touch of espresso notes (oak), mint, as well as some underwood. Very complex for this early stage. It's medium-full bodied, dense with excellent mid-palate persistence and an amazingly silky mouthfeel despite of the medium-high tannin that is almost covered under the fruit. Medium-high acidity providing freshness and tension. Excellent length. Still a total baby in terms of evolution but this is actually not just an academic exercise to taste it now... there is a lot of hedonistic pleasure in it. Grand Cru in everything but the name. 3/22/2012 - Keith Levenberg wrote: 96 pointsPowerful and deep aromatics; there's some discussion over whether it's reduction or just classic Burgundy funk but I'm inclined to go with the latter theory because it didn't go away and seemed in keeping with the gamey tinge to the flavors. This wine was wide open and showing wonderfully. The proportions are slender but the fruit is rich, dense enough to still have an inky gloss and pretty much saturating the tannin, which for the most part is as refined as Les St. Georges can be but may have an ever-so-slight '01-style edginess that's mostly smoothed out by the fruit. |

More perfume and a flat out beguiling nose that has about all I can hope for in NSG. On the plate, the most texturally giving, deepest, purest of the three. Power and finesse all wrapped together. Everything is in perfect balance. Great sap, power without weight and just all around awesomeness. Early peak. I loved this wine. Complete. 96pts |
