Upon opening (cork broke) it was dirty old book and funk on the nose, after 20min more of the stewed red fruit and small amount of menthol started to show causing a delightful mix. mid-low acid. The nose is also veerging on tertiary tones with tobacco, warm earth/bricks and cedar, but also with a fine and fresh chery tone. Medium to full bodied attack, sweet cherry fruit up front that soon gives way to a more heady and tannic mid palate. The dry mouthfeel weakens after a short while, lettting a fresh, almost raspberrry tone emerge on the finish. The aftertaste is long, fresh and raspberry-like. Very elegant. A fascinating wine that combines a rather brutal dryness with a fresh fruit in the aftertaste that is almost reminiscent of a good, simple burgundy. Grassl Cru stem. Nice purple garnet color. Nose offers a little funk at first with some mushroom, cedar and sour cherry. Good structure with the dark sour cherry fruit alongside some mushroom and soy notes. Fresh and zesty acidity. Has some cedar and red clay notes as well. Not unlike the Rancia riserva this wine is with a fruity and a noticeable oak backbone(slightly oaky when uncorked and it goes away just afterwards). Medium ruby color; dark raspberry nose. Lots of intense dark fruit; blackberry, plum, black cherry. Well-structured; with firm tannins that are built for the long haul. Rich tertiary flavors of tobacco, leather, and Tuscan dust. Almost Bordeaux-like in intensity, it is all balanced out by lively acidity. This one is still a bit young. Fresh and lively, but with some deep fruit and leather notes. There is a mélange of some savory herb and spice note and a slight floral whiff. The nose is rich with Black Cherry compote, cigar box, forest floor/mushrooms but also a green freshness (green tobacco leaf?), that balanced the richness in an aromatic experience that I just want to enjoy all night. The palate is similar with a rich entry but orange peel balances out the cherry compote with acid and tannins emerging midpalate to remind you it's a Chianti and add a bit of rustic, followed by a sweetness and finish that goes on for minutes. Paired with meat balls in marinara sauce over bucatini turned this into an elegant stunner that took a simple meal to new heights. There is a lot going on here. From what I recall about the last bottle of the Riserva I opened, this a lot more concentrated, with darker tones, more earth and oak, too. My last 750 (I have a few magnums remaining). The nose is scorched earth and anise, with dark cherry and some lovely floral notes. The palate is medium bodied (a nice balanced 13.5% abv), with fine but very supportive tannins and balanced acidity. The tannins dry the finish out just a hair. 2 people found this helpful, do you?
