A vibrant wine. Exciting and has lots of potential.

Consider to revisit in 10 years time.

A full nose, packed with dark red fruits, black coffee and tobacco.

A voloptous wine.

An uplifting nose. Delivers pleasure on the nose and palate. Some oily brick wall notes. Ends with a tinge of mocha with caramel.

Purple in colour. On the palate the wine is creamy, with viscosity, and tension. The notes and flavours behave like sea waves: rising before subsiding before rising again.

Good level of acidity at 15 years of age. Great finesse, density and ends off with a seductive nose.

Disappointing performance considering previous bottles tasted of this vintage. Nice bouquet though, but disjointed on the palate with dried and slightly greenish fruit, light body, and a surprisingly short finish. An odd bottle?

UGCB tasting-Amsterdam 2021 Bordeaux 03-04-2024: As with Beychevelle, this wine has its 'point fort' in the second past of the taste experience with smooth bitters and tannins in the aftertaste, and also the juicy midtaste shows more ripeness than usual in this vintage; only the bouquet gives a modest impression (some ripe red fruit).

The nose, with its tobacco, herbs, flowers, red currants, cedar and spice pops with little effort. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, crisp, chewy and loaded with savory-tinted red fruits with ample, sweetness to the soft, supple, cherries in the finish. The wine is a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. It is interesting to note that this is the highest percentage of Cabernet used in the blend in the history of the estate. Drink from 2025-2045.

As for last time, this is just a great claret at its peak. Smoky, cigar box character but with enough fruit still there that it's not falling over yet. Good and integrated.

Cork broke, decanted through an aerator for 2 hr.
Vibrant medium(+) ruby, bright ruby rim, barely translucent, narrowly spaced legs !13% abv,
Nose of red fruit, barnyard, cedar, earth notes; slightly perfumed Bordeaux aromas.
Dry, medium-medium(+) acidity, medium ripe tannins and medium(+) body. Complex palate of blueberry, baked cherries, chocolate notes, leather. Beautifully balanced, displays freshness and youthfulness, slick silky texture, luscious. Long well-defined tightly-bound and elegant finish. Fantastic ***
At/nearing peak drinking window.
With Porterhouse steak, enjoyed with Mees and Francine.

This was a surprisingly vapid bottle. No TCA aroma. Maybe some TCB going on as it went nowhere. I'm going to mark it flawed.

Pitch dark in the glass, with a pure nose of black currants, very primary. Nice acidity, medium tannins, the palate is an explosion of black currants with some notes of plums in the background - very precise and fruit driven at this stage. Tannins are not overpowering - a sign of the vintage - and secondary notes of pencil shavings are emerging. The ending is balanced and long, with some cedar wood and a hint of cloves.
Very nice wine in a great spot already. Not sure how much it will improve with cellaring - I honestly think this is just delicious right now - but there is definitely no rush as this will keep (evolving) for at least a decade.

Typical 1981 in that it was soft and balanced without setting the world on fire. Still nice sweet fruit and still amazes me how a vintage with little acidity, concentration or tannins has lasted as long as they have.

Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow": Pauillac and St. Julien (By me @ the factory): Uncorked the day before the tasting and double decanted approx. 3 hours prior to the tasting. The bouquet is still youthful and lactic with cherries, blackberries, blueberries and some marzipan. Same on the palate, beautiful cassis, oak, dark chocolate, beautiful and juicy acidity and round tannin with a good bite. Is still a bit too young, but already delicious. Try again around 2027. 92 – 93

Nez moyennement expressif. Lent à s ouvrir. Note floral. En bouche ampleur moyenne. Les tanins sont encore bien presents. Longueur moyenne. Vin agréable dans l ensemble mais rien de vraiment distinctif. Se bonifiera peut-être dans les prochaines années

2/16/2024 - Eudemis Likes this wine: NR

13% alcohol. Sauv bl 71%, Sém 20%, Sauv gris 9%. M-L fermentation blocked. Unusual clear bottle. Long cork of above average quality. Youthful straw colour.
The nose has good intensity with some sauvignon varietal markers complemented by exotic fruit; very fresh overall. Similar in the mouth with more elegance than intensity; the acidity is well judged.
A pretty wine, but maybe not an arresting one, and repurchase would be heavily price dependent, say 20€ or below.

Decanted 10min. (too short - plan ahead next time!)
This wine needs time despite being already very nice. Lots of potential.
Layers of fruit, hints of flowers, touch of tobacco. Very fine tannins, good texture. Very long. Need to calm down and drink the remaining 8 bottles over 12 years. This will be challenging !

2/10/2024 - Dr.Cork Likes this wine: 91 points

Needs decanting 20-30min.
Initially, the fruit is discreet, with herbal notes and spiciness. As it opens up, nice dark fruit layers are quite present while the spice and herbal notes take a second role. Rather long. Had the 2010 the day before: more fruit forward, more concentration. The 2008 falls into the classical vintages while 2010 is more opulent. Two excellent expression of the Lagrange terroir.
