Friday Night Brown Bagger (R&R's): Double blind. Looks older with a brick red color. Herbal, with currant and iron along with red berry and forest floor. Medium-bodied; flavors of currant and tea leaf; heightened acidity. More red fruit emerges as this opens in the glass. Seems cab-based to me, and I do not recall anyone guessing sangiovese, but still really tasty juice. (R&D)

Blackish crimson belly, fine clay edge that’s only just starting to show a little age in the colour. Baked fruit cake with dark chocolate on the nose. Complex delineated flavours. Rich and jammy red fruits. Some vanilla and plum cake on the palate, lots of marzipan. Integrated wine but still youthful. 14 years old but I will wait another 3 to 5 years before opening the next bottle.

Deep, dark garnet in color with slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & dark plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes of violets, some cocoa, spices, anise, herbs, some leather, tobacco, minerals & cedar notes in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & plums with spices, herbs, cocoa, minerals & a hint of oak. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing & even at 13 years of age, it has the structure & fruit to develop further with continued aging.

Medium ruby in appearance. Definitely on the way to garnet.
Complex, evolved and pronounced nose of red fruits, tar and some sweet vanilla/tobacco.
Medium bodied with medium minus tannin and medium to medium plus acidity. Lots of similar flavor characteristics in the palate with a nice medium plus to long finish.
I would drink now as the color and slight lack of acidity suggests this (bottle at least) is getting near the start of its decline.

14% alc...burnt orange rim, deep center...throwing a fair amount of sediment...nose: cedar, deep red fruited, cherries jubilee, leather, brown sugar, starting to show some early aging aromatics...palate: fine tannins, lengthy, silky, vanilla, cocoa, cherries, meatiness, rustic but very pretty - far prettier and put together than I remember upon release. This wine is showing amazingly well...soft, not showing any heat, balanced. This wine is in a great spot - don't fear holding it for a few more years, but don't miss the pleasure points either. I never liked this wine young and have changed my tune with the last bottle in the cellar.

Not quite as good as it was last time opened (in August, 2016). And not quite as good as the '06, opened last night. This was stored in a climate-controlled environment since purchase. Very similar flavor profile, but the '07 didn't quite have the acidity and substance as the '06. It was perhaps at its best immediately upon opening, showing bright red fruit notes complicated by anise, spice, earth, and minerals. We decanted, and I'm not sure that was the right decision, as it became somewhat light and feeble after an hour, but it then gained weight and some complexity at the 2-3 hour mark. Brunello is also difficult for me to judge, for some reason. Indeed, it was smooth and lush in the mouth, but not particularly big, complex, or interesting - certainly pleasurable, but not quite what I had hoped.

Meaty and blood-like smell, red fruits, leather, evolution, coffee. Maybe even starting to approach the end of its drinking window. After some time the nose was totally dominated by scents of coffee (not enjoyable!). Luckily this disappeared when I drank the left-over after 2 days in the fridge - the wine was then returned to its initial flavour profile (luckily)

Enjoyed this with Arrosticini Abruzzese and green bean with goat cheese salad. Good structure and balance although rather more fruit forward than I prefer. I did not find it needed time to breath and was approachable - perhaps too much - almost immediately. I fear the aging potential may be limited.

As other tasters have noted, the wine needs 1.5-2 hours to decant, and it kept getting better after that until the bottle was finished 4-5 hours after pulling the cork. With time, sour cherry, spice, leather, tobacco, and an iron/rust note are featured on the expressive nose. It is then followed by a lush, fatty mouth-feel (which is enhanced with time), though possesses enough acidity to ensure further aging in the cellar (with room to improve I think). Dark red fruits are featured in the mouth, followed by a pleasantly long finish. I'll hold my last bottle for another 3-5 years. 92+

Decanted 2 1/2 hours; heavy globs of sediment. Medium cherry red color. Subdued and uninteresting nose. Better on the palate: medium-bodied, slightly sour red fruit, well-balanced by acids and tannins. Medium-length finish. Probably drinking as well as it ever will, but it could remain good for another four or five years.

This is actually a very good Brunello, but when put into a tasting with really great Brunello it does have trouble keeping up. It is a little too tame and the fruit seems to be a little over extracted. This leads to a balance point where the acid and tannin get a little lost and seemingly confused. By itself, I might not have picked up on the distractions, but they become apparent when tested.

Developing nose with medium+ intensity. Very ripe cherries, spice box, VA, black tea, pine, dusty gravel road, oak, chocolate and vanilla. Rather tight nose and it didn't really open up during the whole evening.
Dry on the palate with a medium+ acidity, tannin and body. The flavor intensity is medium+ with cherries, fresh cut herbs, black tea, dusty gravel road, oak and coffee. The finish is medium++ with loads of dusty tuscan gravel, warm earth and dark cherries.
Very young and tight today but has huge potential to become a lovely bottle of Brunello.

Alcohol, meat and perfume on the nose. Deep earthy black cherry on the palate. This is essentially black cherry grappa. Deeper than the very good 2006 Caparzo I drank a couple years ago. Slight bricking and throwing some sediment. Decanted an hour before serving and still opening up after 2 hours. Perfect with lamb ragu and homemade pasta. Great wine. As a Burgundy and nebbiolo drinker, need to knock one of these back about twice a year.

Underwhelmed, but still a reasonably good value for entry level Brunello. After 2 hours of air, the tannins were soft and round. Colour showed some age already. A slight bit of wood on the nose. And there are tobacco and sour cherry notes with a clean, but slightly short finish.

Brick red. Opened 3h before and then decanted. Starting to open up now. Meaty, some smokey notes, earthy. Sour cherries coming through now and a hint of red berries compote. Tannic and true to the style. Pairing with lamb shanks. Beautiful

Good stuff here. 1 hour+ time to breath and paid off. A dim blood red color. Nose was quite earthy and funky, some underlining cherry popping through which was overall nice. On the palate, dark cherries dominant, with some notes of wet soil, ripe plums. A nice wine that feels very traditional style, good weight overall, finish was nice.

Woodsmoke and oak aromas. Medium-full bodied and very smooth with refined tannins. Palate has more woodsmoke, joined by blackcurrants, dark fruits and hints of coffee. Very nice acidity. Drinking quite well now, will reward with 2+ years ageing.
Retailer tasting: In the bouquet green herbs, mint as well as red fruits. On the palate juicy, a lot of ok acidity and bitterness and a lot of drying tannin. Still very youthful. Will improve with approx 4 years of ageing, so start around 2016.

2007 Brunello and Super-Tuscan Tasting (Caro's Wines, Auckland, New Zealand): light ruby, some bricking at the edge. Hues of orange light brick red characteristic of Brunello di Montalcino. Perfumed, elegant nose expressing dark red fruit with some leather tones. Seductive, easy entry on the palate. Acids, fruit and tannins are nicely balanced and drive a strong lasting finish. Lighter acids and tannins versus other 2007 vintages may not allow for decades of cellaring but this should provide pleasure to the senses over the next decade.

Medium ruby in appearance.
Pronounced and evolved nose of black fruits, balsamic notes, rosemary, vanilla and baking spice. Classic sangiovese.
Very fresh palate- similar flavor characteristics, medium bodied , medium to medium plus acidity and a long finish.

Pnp. Drank over two days. Medium brick Red. Some funk on the nose. Medium cherry. Medium alcohol. Classic brunello everything. I got it for a song and was well pleased. Nothing complex but a worthwhile drink.

Still so young, but drinking quite well. I am sure a few more years in cellar will really allow this wine to shine. I predict a ceiling of around 92points

Brick red. Opened 3h before and then decanted. Starting to open up now. Meaty, some smokey notes, earthy. Sour cherries coming through now and a hint of red berries compote. Tannic and true to the style. Pairing with lamb shanks. Beautiful

Great old world style with earthy nose and palate accompanied by nice cherries. This is great Italian food wine. Decant and rest for 60-90 mins

One and a half hours of breathing helped open this wine and allowed it's tannins to soften. Medium red color and medium bodied. Dark cherry flavored. We thought it was excellent in all respects.

Vintage Wines Brunello Tasting: Interesting nose with an earthy note but not too overpowering, perhaps the highest acidity of the brunellos in the tasting although wasn't too out of balance. Expected cherry palate.

Great Wines of Italy Tasting (Brunelli) (NYC): A very pretty, fragrant, sandal wood nose. Similar to other southern hills wines -- Fanti, Salicutti -- a soft, aromatic profile. A solid effort.

Dark red color. Smokey fat and aromas of burnt oak. Nice red fruit, reminded me quite a bit of Bordeaux but with strong gripping acid. The wine has a serious tannic finish.

Light smoky oak, dried fruit and fig aromas from the glass. Full-bodied with mouth-watering acidity. Palate consists of more dark fruits and fig. Quite well-balanced. Tannins still somewhat tight, will reward 3-5 years in cellar.

Toasted oak on the nose along saw dust, tobacco, Indian spice and sweet red fruits. Fine grained tannins contribute to a smooth texture. Lingering a dry finish. An outstanding modern styled Brunello.

Argiano Tasting: An evening with Hans Vinding-Diers (Esquin Wine, Seattle): 30% whole cluster used to add character to the round and plush 2007 vintage. Medium perfumed nose of sous bois, tobacco and morello cherry. Definitely more rounder than 2006 but not lacking in structure and character.

Hues of orange light brick red characteristic of Brunello di Montalcino. Perfumed, elegant nose expressing dark red fruit with some leather tones. Seductive, easy entry on the palate. Acids, fruit and tannins are nicely balanced and drive a strong lasting finish. Lighter acids and tannins versus other 2007 vintages may not allow for decades of cellaring but this should provide pleasure to the senses over the next decade.

very consistent style with '06 on the nose. the palate is more riper but delivers the same brash wood and oak as the 06. these are drinking well right now - won't last as long or gain more complexity as 06 though.
