Decanted for an hour but it needed more. Very dark and indeed ‘brooding’ as the label declares. Dense, but rich nose of coffee, cacao and blackberry. Less engaging on the palate as it’s just so heavy but it does have a hint of pepper and mocha. Not as well rounded as the 2012 but if the body catches up with the nose in a few years, this will be wonderful.
Very similar to bottles I have had in the past. Opened and slow ox'd for two hours. The nose was all fruit. The palate was berries, dark cherry, currents and hints of spice. The finish was moderate to long. Went well with the marinated grilled tuna steaks.

Good lord, this is still a huge, meaty, massively structured field blend that badly needs more age. Fruit is there in spades but so are the tannins. I have no doubt that this will be a 30 year wine. The only question is whether the structure outlives the fruit. 3 bottles left so I'm looking forward to finding out!

Decanted an hour. Here's another Bedrock wine that's too big for me. I'm not sure if jammy is the right word, or extracted, or just voluminous. The alcohol is also present. The fruit presence is enticing.

Wanted to check in on this onen and just as expected, it's still a hugely structured field blend thst needs a LOT more time in the bottle. Very tight with huge tannins. Air/lots of swirling show signs of a great wine down the road....but its going to take at least 5, ideally 10+ more years to really shine. A complete and utter HOLD.

Slow ox'd for three hours, recorked and brought to a restaurant. The zinfandel dominates this blend. Dark fruit with spice on the nose, very dark in the glass, the palate is dark cherry, blackberry, currant with some spice. The finish is long.

Deep purple color, with aromas that are typical of the Zinfandel grape that makes up 50% of this blend. The rich, dense fruit is predominantly purple, with some red fruits. Full-bodied and balanced; the tannins are noticeable but have begun to integrate into the wine. The wine seems to be entering what should be a long drinking window; I'd estimate it has a decade or more to go. While bigger than I normally like to drink, I found this quite a lovely pairing with grilled ribeye.

Not a very expressive nose, but really nice on the palate. A bit more subdued & a bit more acidic than it's Bedrock Heirloom sibling from the same vintage, this had more red fruit & citrus oil while still featuring lots of dark brambly fruit & baking spices.

Very interesting, fun wine. Surprisingly tight, with a slightly dusty finish. After a couple hours in the decanter, it opened up (but, not entirely) into a dense, moderately rich wine. Nose was a bit muted, otherwise it would have received a higher score. Seemed very young.

Never really got this bottling. My wife, a huge Bedrock fan, didn't finish her glass and switched to Dragon's Milk Beer. I have had this a few times and its been quite consistent. Just not a lot of fruit here. Purple in color. The nose has leather, pepper and slight black raspberries. On the palate, plums. Enough fruit that I doubt there is any low level TCA, but not enough to make this wine great. Not enough complexity either. Its ok, but way below what I had hoped for. Oh well. My last bottle, we drank about half (normally a Bedrock wine is consumed quickly), and I will see if there is any change overnight.
Definitely the tightest wine on opening, showing very little on the nose. Towards the end of the afternoon, the nose was more pronounced but seemed a bit muddled, with flowers, tar, and game all in the mix. The palate is full of dark fruit, licorice, and a roasted meat. There's a lot going on with this wine and I think it still needs another year or so to sort itself out. But, it seems to have promise.

Nearly opaque purple color with slightly hot black cherry, spiced cacao, substantial mineral and subtle roast meat aromas. On the palate, it's dense, and focused with black cherry, blackberry, black currant, and cacao flavors underscored by an engaging minerality. Long finish. Blend of mostly(50%) zinfandel and (25%) carignane. 14.5% alcohol. 10 barrels made

PnD let air for 30mins and drank 2/3 of the bottle over several hours. Dense purple black with violet rim. Hugely aromatic with big floral notes over plums blackberries kirsch licorice and cinnamon. Medium weight with powdery tannins. Snappy rd fruit flavors give way to black with a touch of spice with floral and gamy notes. Lingering finish is a bit hot. Big and sleek at the same time.

A bit tannic & sharp on Day 1. Something else in there. Someone mentioned tar. That's it! Loads of black fruits going on, but nothing overpowering in the least. No fruit bomb here. Day 2 was much, much nicer. Tannins calmed down. Much better integration. I'd say give this one loads of air & enjoy.

Consumed over three nights. Don't get me wrong, this was a very nice bottle, but I couldn't tell if this was all there is or there is more potential. Frankly, I am wondering about the potential based on other notes and reputation. Purple in color. The nose has raspberries, black cherries, licorice and some dark chocolate. Not powerful or complex, but nice. The palate is medium bodied with black cherry fruit. A strong streak of acidity at time over powered the fruit but some food made it work very well. There was virtually no change over three nights either way. I have another bottle, so I will wait on it. Perhaps the Zin is mellowing and the PS hasn't matured yet. Time will tell where this goes.

Easily my favorite of the Bedrock Heirloom/Heritage reds that I've tried. Fruit forward and Zin dominated but the other varieties make their presence known as well. Ripe flavors but not overdone with restrained oak treatment. Good acidity to balance things out. Enjoyed by everyone who tried it at the family gathering.

Shrill yet fruity when first opened, this settled into a nice combination of pepper/cocoa/bramble high tones with a deeper note on the back end. Chunky at times. Hold 1+ year, then chill and decant back to service temperature. I've found the Bedrock whites and Syrahs to be more consistent performers than the Zins/Blends, which come across as more raw and rustic, or maybe just showing their youth?

Opened for Otis and family visit and Hawaii Wine-O offline. Fantastic field blend (50% zin). Decanted for 2 hrs prior to drinking, although did not really need it, as it was fine right out of the bottle. Brooding, dark cherry, with currant, hint of lavender, and fine beam of acidity. Great QPR, as is the case with all of Morgan Twain-Peterson's lineup.

Another outstanding Bedrock. Brief splash decant and after about 30 minutes, and warming up a little, wow! Smoked meats, lavender, cigar box, and dark fruit. Held up just fine flying solo, but paired beautifully with pork tenderloin stew. Ready to go now with structure to last several years. Excellent QPR.

1 hr decant. Purple red and dense. Tongue-coatingly viscuous with smoky oak, pepper, black cherry, blackberries, mulberry, and bramble. Smooth tannins. Long finish. Impressive because it's dense and ripe but not at all hot. Wish I had lots more.

Nice big'un with the BBQ yesterday. Dense nose of smoky black fruit and violet could have portended a flabby palate but didn't. Fresh and balanced. Undecided about p/q; food pairing will be fairly limited with this, at least at our house.

Blacks with smoke, meat and oak. Tastes young, tannic, tart and woody. Has the basis to be good, but let them rest for 2-3 years. Day 2 update. The tannins are tamer and the oak is more integrated. Still a little tart. More syrah like on day one, but some of the zin is coming out on day 2. Still needs time to really come together and reach its potential.

This producer is quickly becoming my favorite QPR. I hated Zin and filed blends before I found this producer. They were always overblown and fruit bombs. However Bedrock maintains the lovely perfume and freshness that can make the grape so alluring. This had a lovely lifted nose with dark bramble fruit, spiciness with lovely acidity and a great finish. One producer I will continue to buy.

Day 1 I was really disappointed. This was just a mess. I did a PNP at a restaurant, which may not be fair, but I was very unhappy with the initial showing. Muted, and a bit of alc. Put the rest in the fridge when I got home and had the balance Day 2. Big improvement over day 1. The taste came through and I thought boy a nice little Syrah, until I remembered it was a field blend, so I don't really know what it was. But either way it was much more enjoyable. Having said that, I was to disappointed with the Day 1 showing, combined with the price, it just didn't add up for me. Scoring is based on combined showing. I won't rebuy.

Dark red color. Reductive nose that blew off after a few minutes to reveal tar and some floral elements. Very backwards, huge tannin wall that quickly obscures the nice dark red fruit with a streak of beefsteak tomato before the medium finish. Siphoned half a bottle into a split in the fridge overnight, next day the tannin was somewhat more subdued and softened, and the fruit and a leather element balanced with the acidity to make this a nice drink. Rating is based on performance now, could maybe improve slightly with a year or two in bottle.

Pop 'n pour - tasted over 2 hours. Gorgeous nose of bramble, spice, blueberry, and florals. On the palate, seemed very closed down. Yes, there were some gorgeous flavors there, but did not get much of a burst of fruit at all like I was expecting. Just seemed very restrained right now and showing a ton of tannins. Very structured with a nice acidic backbone and the prominent tannins. It did open up a little bit over the 2 hours, but not much. Actually, I'm very excited about the future of this wine but it's going to take years before I think it shows its true character.

This is a bombastic wine loaded with dark fruit, currant, pepper and spicy meat from start to finish. This full throttled complex red is in your face but so soft and smooth on the palate. This will only get better over the next 10 years.

Wow, this is a monster. Chocolate, dark fruit, and spice dominate the nose. Massive body, noticeable oak, dark fruit, candied, complex, with a long finish. I liked it in the same way I like big SQN and Chateauneufs. You have to be in the mood for a big wine. Definitely not a claret-lovers' Zin.
This is how Manfred Krankl would make a Zin.

Surprisingly light upon opening, but fleshes out over several hours, and remains fresh even after several days. Tannins are very present, offering a rich and complex mouthfeel after three days of drinking and corking, as are myriads of different flavors that arise over time. I agree that this is not typical zinfandel based blend as there is far more structure, the evolution of structure being so much what this wine is about. Claret style comes to mind. Yummy. Nice smokiness in the finish.

My first Bedrock. Tight, even after two hours in the decanter, but still very enjoyable. I'm not sure if Zinfandel dominates the blend, but it certainly doesn't define the flavor profile which shows dark fruits, iron, black pepper, and vanilla. Well balanced and not overly tannic at this stage, but tight, as I said, so I won't touch another bottle in 2011.

Good stuff. Plenty of ripe red and blue fruit (especially after an hour in the glass), with the overall palate leaning towards Syrah (would be curious what the mix actually was). Definitely a nice quaffer, especially at this price. (PE: 90)

Opened, not decanted. Dark ruby/purple in color, with aromas of plum, licorice, ground pepper, and spice. The palate reveals brooding black cherry, licorice, black pepper, dried herbs, and iron characteristics. Nicely textured, well endowed, and full-bodied; tannic. Cellar these for now.

Nice big'un with the BBQ yesterday. Dense nose of smoky black fruit and violet could have portended a flabby palate but didn't. Fresh and balanced. Undecided about p/q; food pairing will be fairly limited with this, at least at our house.

Popped and poured. Pretty strong dark fruit aroma of blackberry and plum, with some smokiness. Taste is bold with more of that dark fruit, but has some acidityand tannin at the end.

Young and hot. Needs time. Light on the palette; little nose; not much fruit.

Drinking really nicely with just a short decant. Expressive of zin characteristics without being overblown or too rich. Should also age for at least 5 to 7 years.

Simply rockstar. Great dar fruit with a touch of licorice and oak. Moderate tannin let's you know this had time left leading to a lengthy finish. Loving this wine and this producer more and more..

Saturday Night at the Claffee's (The Claffee's): Had an exotic spiciness to the palate with dark fruit, and dried florals. Thought this had nice balance and showed quite well!

Opened with friends to introduce them to bedrock - dark and inky - full bodied - lots of flavors mixing - still needs time but with a decant it's still good drinking now!

Not thrilled with these field blends. They seem to lack focus and synergy. Prefer the Bedrock Pinots.

No formal notes other than this is big, dark and concentrated right now. Hold off for a while on the others.

Dark and inky - big body - I do think it will benefit from some cellar time - chocolate and spice - the finish with time could be great.

What's becoming a "traditional" Bedrock depth is outstanding here. Rich, deep, lush, oaky, everything I like in a big red wine.

Sorry but this was an overblown oak bomb and tannic as hell. Thought it would settle down on day 2 or 3 but I was wrong. Poured the last glass down the drain. Very disappointing....
