Muscadet is usually seen as being best young, and few age these wines. I find they really become richer and gain some deeper fruit with age. Light gold in colour, rich but with citrus, mineral and nutty notes. Great balance and intensity still. Some said it has some oxidative notes, but I didn't get that. I love these aged Muscadets! No rush on these, but ready now (A-).

John's. Bronze-gold color with flavors of preserved lemon, quince cider, apple fritter, and hazelnuts. Flamboyantly aromatic, and old but not oxidative. A thrilling wine that makes you bang yourself on the head for not aging wines like this.

Still light gold, starting to enter maturity, some good herbal complexity in the aroma. This particular bottle seems like it needs a couple more years as it’s the palate isn’t quite as developed as the nose.

Full yellow now. Saline, herbal aromatics. Lean but has definitely developed more texture and body with time in bottle. Lemon drop, terrific acidity, and dry, soil filled finish. Excellent, and we all agreed that it would a great ringer in a line up of similar age Premier Cru Chablis. This should have no problem living 3 to 5 more years.

Tasted over 3 hrs -translucent light/med gold, green tinge -sweet lemon honeycomb whiff of lanolin -med+ acidity, middle weight slightly honeyed minerally good complexity and decent length, becomes more complex and almost sweet after warming up -starting to show some elements of maturity but still really fresh particularly in the first hour, spectacular how well some muscadets age

I served this in my wine course. Floral, minty nose. Surprisingly creamy mouth-feel. Another wave of herbal bitter tastes hit on the fairly elegant finish. Preferred it on day 1 relative to day 2 as it lost a bit of its angularity and become softer and more rounded. Not sure, but I suspect this points to the fact that it may be approaching the end of its drinking window.

Another very good Ld'Or. Intense nose, with a mix of minerals, saline, talc powder and citrus. Pretty good depth too. Nice balance of fruit and mineral elements. Structurally has just the right acidity, not too much. Not a very good match with chicken tamales (duh), the combo made the wine taste really funky. I'll stick with fish or a simple roast chicken next time.

nose - creamy ?vanillin mouth - v. good minerality and almost reminds me of that flavor you get when you first stick a piece of spearment gum in your mouth. Lisa called it a wine to pair with seafood and brian thought it perhaps the best white he has had all year. considering the asking price a veritable steal. Some floral aspects in there as well. For twenty bucks, this is what you can score if you venture off the beaten path. I think Josh Raynolds steered me in the right direction, not completely sure, but big ups and rahspect. Ripe, open nose with sea salt, orchard fruit and light honey. Palate is atypically full-bodied but otherwise follows the nose with nice metal-shavings minerality. This is quite open for business and surprisingly a bit developed, and even I'd say a touch loose for an '07. Unlike the '02, which was razor sharp and tightly wound at a similar age, it's all hanging out here. While this will likely continue to drink well for a number of years I'm not sure I see it getting much better.

Popped and poured, with a just touch effervescent spritz upon pouring. Light straw hue. Complex and almost atypically forward aromas that continually evolve in glass...tangerine zest and green apple morphs into pear and honeydew melon along with notes of candle wax, white flowers, sea spray, minerals - even a touch of peat as it warms! Light to medium-light body shows excellent concentration for Muscadet. Moderate acidity on the palate, which shows notes of freshly squeezed citrus juices, pear, herbaceous tinges, spring onion, and a distinct impression of saline minerals. If such a thing as high octane Muscadet exists...well, here it is. Lengthy close. Hard to venture a guess as to the aging potential of this unique wine but it should certainly do well for many years and, best to note, while certainly not lacking, the acidity isn't overt and might suggest a shorter lifespan than normal for the appellation. Either way, this is compelling and fun to taste!
Quick commentary: When did they start growing Muscadet in Chablis? Seriously, I can't think of a better Muscadet to present as a poor man's alternative to 1er Cru Chablis and one which truly shows the best of both appellations. Fun stuff, and a great QPR in relation to the complexity it exhibits. In addition, please take my note on aging potential with a grain of salt. It's based more on impression than experience and, for all I know, this could last decades.

Med pale yellow - melon and citrus nose, with some mineral and nettle or celery - not an effusive nose, but certainly distinct - very crisp, hi acid, at first you think thin, but then the finish goes on for a very long time - flavours mostly in the citrus range, this would certainly be a winner with seafood or a creamy sauce - not a wow, but certainly the best Muscadet I've ever had, and will likely improve markedly with time. I won't open the next one for at least 2-3 years.

More glycerine than I expected. An elegant wine with nice mouthfeel, but a little flabby for my taste, lacked the crispness I associate with Muscadet and the flavors, while interesting, were very, very light.

Sweet, flowery tones with elements of creamed honey and fresh butter introduce the nose. There are hints of brioche and melon, and there is an exceptional crispness, dominated by crushed sea shell, sea stone, and lemonade. There is a faintly tart pear aroma that emerges after a spin in the glass, and the overall presentation comes across as very appealing.
Tender, crisp, and delicately sweet, the palate of this wine is immediately recognizable as being perfectly balanced. The fruit is excellently ripe, with juicy notes of white peach, lemon, and gooseberry. Flint and sea stone make up the core of this wine’s mineral-driven mid palate, and there are pleasant notes of nectarine and white flowers on the finish. This is a spritzy, fresh, and very nicely orchestrated wine, with a finish that leaves your mouth watering for more. A very well done effort, and absolutely worth buying.

Excellent to Outstanding. Light yellow/pale green in color. Very pleasant nose of lime, white flowers and wet stones. Beautiful acidity on the palate with prevalant lime pith, some pear, saline and oyster shell.
