Very pale colour, a bit more vibrant than the Via Nuova 2008. Light, delicate aroma - fine red cherry with dried flower, leaf. Shows some sweet spice too, perhaps from barrique. Smells less mature than Via Nuova 08 tasted at same time. Fresh palate - fine fruit still with some primary notes, alongside savoury. Super elegant, refined tannin. Could age for longer. In a nice balanced place. Very subtle and fine.

Barolo and Truffle dinner (Flat 9): In a really good place, with no hard corners and the wood almost entirely absorbed by the fruit, leaving only some vestigial spice (which went superbly with the food). Cool, poised and dark-toned, with vibrant acidity and that je ne sais quoi that really delicious wine often has. Everyone seemed to enjoy this a lot.

Saw the recent notes, thought I’d open this instead of waiting. Maybe there’s major bottle variation, but my experience was very different. Medium bodied, cinnamon, maraschino cherry, chalk, sour patch kids, finish lasts forever. This beauty is nowhere near its shelf life, just entering its early drinking window. Loads of dead tannins at the bottom of the bottle, didn’t have the opportunity to decant/filter before drinking. Hold.

I would agree with the previous note, the nose here shows older than palate. It's that sherried nose you can often find in older wines that have turned-I call them Bern's wines-and not entirely pleasing- but... the palate here is very much alive and youthful. Some nice cherry fruit and licorice. It took several hours in the decanter to get this to a point that was accessible to be talked about. It needs a bit more time, though, I don't really know if it's ever going to be anything special.

Heavy bricking to the point that it looked more like sherry than Barolo. A fair bit of balsamic and burnt sugar on the nose. But the palate was surprisingly good: fully resolved tannins, lots of black fruit, menthol, spice, carmelized sugar, smoke. Good level of acidity. There’s some classic Barolo tar and roses, but those notes are in the background. Bought at the LCBO seven years ago and stored at 57 degrees. If you’ve got this, drink it soon.

Thanksgiving week in Piemonte; 11/22/2019-11/30/2019 (Milan, Barolo, Alba, Barbaresco): From the wine list at Rosso Barolo. Another new producer to try and a bit of bottle age - so this was my pick. The nose on this had quite a bit of bretty barnyard funk - which blew off after a bit in the decanter. On the palate though it was also not a standout - I got quite a bit of oak and a sense of sweetness that I did not really enjoy.

Piedmont II - better and learnings; 11/23/2019-11/29/2019 (Barolo, Alba, others): We were pretty unfair to this wine. Stuck it next to some just straight up amazing bottles. And I'm not totally convinced on it. There was quite a bit of funk and barnyard which I don't think meant bad bottle but prob meant not the freshest profile. So for me this was stinky cheese and barnyard and old socks and all of that. Just the hints of black fruit. As I said, overshadowed, so I didn't totally get into it.
At 9+ years it tastes like it was just bottled. Jagged edges, ultra sharp mouth puckering cherry profile, nice weight. So primal, hold for 5+ years if you can.

Monthly tasting club LTC October; Piedmonte (By FN): Beautiful and mature bouquet with autumn impressions and earth. On the palate chocolate and earth as well. Juicy dark berries, sweet spices and beautiful acidity. More mature than expected, but certainly a beautiful wine.

Riktigt bra vin

This bottle is consistent with most of the other users'. Black and red cherry, licorice, and spices. Big and ripe, but plenty of Nebbiolo character. Tons of depth and structure. In my experience, these age well and this bottling will be no exception. Should be fantastic in 8-12 years. 93+

Brought to Cafe Italian in Grapevine, TX. WOTN for all those at the table. Did not take specific notes but recall a beautiful floral nose, cherries and tar on the palate with soft tannins and nice acidity. Perfect with my lamb chops. I can't wait to try in another 5 years.

Very classic nose. Open and aromatic with aromas of tar and roses. Much more dense and powerful than the other 08's alongside it. The fruit is full and rich, balancing the ripe but very dry tannins. Huge length and depth of flavour. Very nice indeed.

Terrific. Understated, subtle and elegant, it grows on you over the course of the bottle...never a showy "wow" wine, but this is the one I kept going back to and ultimately my wine of the night...

An Evening with Chiara Boschis of E. Pira & Figli (I Nonni, St. Paul, MN): Medium red color. Drank 1 glass over 50 minutes. Preparation unknown, but not unexpectedly, this was quite tight on opening. After 30 minutes began to show promise in the nose with raspberry, spuice, cherry, anise, developing a nice floral quality very late. The palate has deep flavors of berry, cherry, spice, minerals. Prominent tannins, with lots of depth and a long finish. This holds much promise, but is far too young to truly appreciate. 92-94pts.

At winery - Again, another remarkable Barolo. Chiara makes the best Cannubi on the market and the 2008 marks true excellence. A bit softer, more elegant and less in your face than the Via Nuova. Plummy red berry fruit on the nose with aromas of green vegetables and grass. Big tannins, elegant and smooth and extremely well balanced. Impeccably well made. Earthy minerality and saline on the finish with flowers and leather. Delicious Cannubi.

Compared to the 05 this is definately more fruity with fleshy fruit tones. Not that elegant as 05 but still a very good Barolo. Still young though

2008 Barolo Tasting at Antonio Galloni's La Festa del Barolo (Del Posto Restaurant, NYC): Ruby color. Tight but lovely perfume. Nice structure with plenty of tannin and perfume in the mouth. Oak seems subtle. Greg dP says only 20% of their barriques are new. Best wine I've tasted from this estate in years.
