Was served by the glass at Cafe Lavinal in Pauillac, village of Bages. Fifth Growth property with extensive 100 ha vineyard. Made from a blend of 72% CS, 23% Merlot, 3% CF and 2% PV, aged for 15 months in oak, 65% new. Deep garnet colour. Intense and savoury aroma of spices, plums, cassis, tobacco, chocolate, spices. Medium+ body not as expressive as aroma, but shows good concentration and spiced and smoky layered flavours, some prunes cassis and vanilla as well, concludes with finely grained velvety tannins.

It’s been almost 8 years since we tried this ( Papies 92) and has made a few strides forward but still could use some more. Soft spice and herbs along with reluctant dark fruits , open on the nose but the palate is still needs a bit more. Well it’s in its drinking window but still a bit shy and we worry it might never break out as the austerity of Pauillac is not helping the more linear 2011 vintage. On va voir. Still a beautiful wine and one to cherish. 92 again

Pure Pauillac - black fruit, graphite, leather, dried herbs. It’s pleasant though not yet elegant. Decent long finish. It’d give it a few more years to settle.

This wine does Lynch Bages credit, emerging from a difficult vintage with plenty of Lynch character - blueberry, cassis, pencil - and an inky depth that's better than expected. The oak is well-integrated at this point and it's ready to drink in earnest.

I decanted to remove sediment then returned the wine to the bottle without further aeration.
Intense, but lovely aromas of warm plums and red cherry, leather, mild bell pepper, mint and cigar box. On the palate there is some uplifting acidity and mildly grippy tannins. Moderately long finish. I would happily drink this again, now or in 10 years.

U Club NYC. Good color, dark and clear. Immediate nose of crushed stones, earth, hints of pepper and spices. Very aromatic from the beginning. Palate leaned medium body, perhaps a bit thin, none the less showed very classic Paullic profile. Muscular with more hard earth, stone fruits, cassis, vegatation, and spice. Touches of cedar. Quite nice and open for business.

Concentrated still in its youth. Not yet in its drinking window as it was not expressive on the palate but the potential! It tastes like blackberry, blueberry, raisin, oak, vanilla, nutmeg and asparagus. The body is medium/full. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.
Coravin fun - Angelus & Lynch Bages (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Aromas of yeast extract, brambly fruit, slight pyrazine, woody notes (especially cedar), slightly meaty. With time in the glass a pretty lifted violet and some Cassis. Medium plus intensity acidity, slightly sour black fruits, with a tiny Creme de Cassis is underpinning, tannins are medium plus intensity but supportive rather than drying, flour textured, all travel long. Okay.

Bordeaux 2011 - 10 Years On - 30 Reds: All tasted blind, not decanted. A few observations: 1) As expected, it's a mediocre vintage with many wines lacking depth and mid palate weight of great vintages. My average score for the reds was 91.3 pts vs group scores at more recent horizontals for 2010 (93.0), 2000 (92.7) and 2009 (93.9). 2) I expected more green/unripe notes and drying tannins but that is not the case (hence the solid 91.3 average). Most wines showed well-made (with only 6 out of 30 reds rated below 90 pts). 3) Left bank (average 91.8 pts) clearly trumps right bank (90.6) thanks to more mid palate substance. 4) Virtually no wine showed a) over extracted and already dying and b) with far too much ripeness. Both 2009/2010 (and 2015/2018) have several wines with these problem. 5) Most wines are in a good drinking window. Although not yet with tertiary complexity, the structure has softened and the wines are open (even without extended decanting). 6) Unfortunately (due to price), the best reds were Le Pin (97+ pts), Margaux (96), Petrus (96) and Mouton (95). 7) Good vintage for Sauternes it seems (we tasted only two) with a surprising Giraud (96 pts) beating a too sweet Yquem (93).
TN: Medium- expressive on the nose, not much expressive. But quite good on the palate, round, fresh, without any hard edges but not much complexity either. Fine dark red and dark fruit, some tobacco and some earthy notes. Not overly exciting but solid effort worth 92 pts.

A pleasant, rich nose of dark berries, plums with hints of secondary and tertiary aromas, mostly cedar and a touch of herbs. Smooth on the mid-palate, with the juicy fruit nicely balanced by the finely judged acidity. Not especially deep or complex right now, but certainly very pleasant to drink. I initially picked it as from St Emilion because it was so easy going and lacked the graphite/pencil lead aromas of the left bank.

Steak off! (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Cedar, blackcurrant initially with sweet spice. Over time cream, plain chocolate, tobacco notes and slight brambles show in a supporting role on the nose as well as a slightly jammy fruit note, oddly. in the mouth it's more savoury than I expected it to be, juicy medium plus acidity, cedar, blackcurrant and brambles, tight, grippy, chalky tannins carry the fruit long. This is lovely.

Better than expected. I read the reviews here before drinking and had fairly muted expectations. Was pleasantly surprised. Certainly not the best Lynch Bages, but not bad and drinking well now.
375mL pop and power decant. Garnet color. There was a fair amount of sediment in my bottle, which I disturbed and mixed during the decanting. Nose of blackberries and cassis. Cherries/cranberries on the front transitioning to strawberries, bitter greens, forest floor, and a little oak. Medium alcohol. Still has high tannins, though starting to wind down. This is never going to be a high ranking LB, but not a terrible wine either.

From Coravin. Savoury plums, earth, yeast extract, slight burnt toast, blackcurrant and plenty of sweet spice, violets and a certain resinous quality. in the mouth it's juicy with drying flour textured tannins, plums, blackcurrants, a savoury meaty quality, touches of tobacco leaf and cedar. Good for this vintage and good for my me.

Coravin fun - New old and old new arrivals (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Densely savoury and meaty with muted brambles and blackcurrant, dusty cedar and sweet spice. With extreme agitation the spice grows more savoury and some pretty dark fruit starts to show; cassis and ripe blackcurrant, with a little plain chocolate. ON the palate there is an impression of black fruit compote (berries, currant and a little plum) and this carries beneath the drying, hard tannins. Still simple but promise with time for me.

Appearance is bright and the colour is beautiful. Nose is also a frontal attack of juicy berries and herbs. Alas, the palate does not match my preference, offering high doses of pyrazines, dill, herbs and dark fruits at the back.

Garnet color. Blackberries, red currents, and tobacco on the nose. Light-to-medium tannins. There’s a lot less complexity then I was expecting, but perhaps that will develop in the next decade. Would recommend decanting for an hour.

Thought it would have more depth even in its youth and especially its price. This wine needs more time and retailers and restaurants need to stop selling it at these high price points. Raises expectations. taste a hint of chocolate and licorice along with the black fruits (cassis). Really nice dark inky burgundy color. Has good potential but it is not there yet. Hold for a while. Its a good wine but I felt unfulfilled.

Retailer tasting. The wine was dark ruby in colour and very reserved on the nose and palate. It only gave away muted dark fruit, chocolate, tobacco, some graphite and spice, with medium-plus acidity and tannin and very good length. The wine seemed to have a very good structure, which should allow him to age well, but today really was not the best point in time in this wine’s life to judge it. (90+?)

Lots of prettiness going on here - dark berry fruits, herbs, mintiness, tension on the palate, lively. Not as dense as some vintages, more pretty than full. Drink now and for the next decade would be my thought.

(Decanter FWE 2016) :: Still coiled and very young but evident complexity and character. A bit of heat and alcohol; primary and malformed. If this was a blind tasting, one might be less generous. Massive tannin frame; a complete and rounded mouthfeel but needs a lot of time.

Just amazing complexity, right off the cork pull. Almost candied raspberry fruit on the nose with layers and layers, a gentle, but firm palate that has a darn good amount of tannin on it. Very tasty, give it time - three more years in the cellar and then maybe some more.

CS 70%, rest merlot, CF and PV. Produce 450k bottles p.a. Has a lot of depth, a serious wine. Compared to their other pauillac lable called Ormes de Pez this one has more but smoother tannins, which give it more volume. The mentioned sister wine is the better deal considering the cost.

Blind tasting of 2011 and 2012 red Bordeaux. More depth and weight to the nose, compared to 2011 Esperance de Trotanoy. Riper fruit, spices, smoky oak. Not very generous on the palate, tight and grippy, lacking a bit of flesh. Firm grip, slightly drying, but well balanced. Decent length. 89-90+

Deep ruby colour, bordering on purple. Quite a restrained nose of blackcurrant and pencil shavings. Crisp acidity on palate, fine but drying tannins mask the fruit a tad on the palate. Could do with a little more fruit concentration. Classically styled, not for fruit bomb lovers but should be lovely with a further 6-7 years in bottle.

A bit lighter-weight and cranberried than I might prefer, but a solid effort for the vintage, with decent concentration and sweet tannins in support of cassis-dominated fruit.

Tight, the wine needed coaxing to develop its cassis, tobacco, earth, cedar and tobacco nose. Medium/full bodied, the tannins are a bit dry on the palate. there is a good sense of crispness in the cassis, blackberry and cranberry finish. This will be better after a few years in the cellar.

Bordeaux 2011 from bottle (Park Hyatt Hotel, Washington D.C.): Top flight Lynch Bages. I liked Pauillac in general in 2011, and this wine does not disappoint. OK, a touch drying on the finish but that is splitting some hairs. Veritably full bodied, this wine displays succulence and power, what one can expect from a quality estate like Lynch Bages. In recent vintages, I have decried a certain later picking and oak extraction, but 2011 seems to be marked by balance.

Deep in color with a perfumed filled with coffee, blackberry, chocolate and tobacco, there are ample fresh and bright cassis flavors found in the finish. 91-93 Pts

Same score as my last note 3 years ago. In a dumb stage now. Needs a lot of time.

Lots of prettiness going on here - dark berry fruits, herbs, mintiness, tension on the palate, lively. Not as dense as some vintages, more pretty than full. Drink now and for the next decade would be my thought.

tasted at large walkaround tasting. fairly light, this had some nice herbal and floral aromatics going on. fruit is a bit in the background, with some black fruit notes. sage, mint, eucalyptus most prominent here. finishes a bit short.

Drank after a long decant. Expressive nose of cassis and cedar, smooth palate of dark fruits, earth and a hint of vanilla. Tannins had receded noticeably compared to 2015. Quite enjoyable.

Tasting Bordeaux 13-12-11-10 in Hong Kong (Visiting Vinexpo 2016, I finally tasted Bordeaux 2013s from bottle, plus earlier vintages): This is a conservative score. The structure is accentuated by high acidity, and yet the tannins are ripe and and it is full bodied. Give it time in the cellar and should merit a higher score.

Try again in 3-5 years.

Really quite powerful and one gets the impression that it's not just the big tannins, there's some real concentration and elegance to the underlying fruit here, with classic black fruit, coffee, and lead pencil qualities. Should be great.
