Never would I have guessed holding on to this bottle until now would yield such nice wine. Dark cherry pie fruit, earthy notes, long dark fruit finish with not a hint of anything too old like woody or cedar notes. Super smooth tannins but you barely know its there. It taste like the Mourvedre is out front even thought its only 18%.

We received this bottle from Tablas Creek’s (T.C.) wine club in March, 2013. According to T.C.’s vintage chart, this wine is drinking beautifully right now in a “peak maturity” stage. This red blend consists of estate grown-grapes, as well as grapes from 15 other vineyards through-out Paso Robles. This Rhone-styled blend consists of 52% Syrah, 29% Grenache, 18% Mourvedre, and 1% Counoise. The bouquet exhibits essences of dried herbs, earth and stoniness, and red and dark fruits. Sure enough, there’s about a 75/25 blend of dark fruits and red fruits, such as plums, black cherries, and blackberries, along with Bing cherries, raspberries, and very slight essences of red currants, raspberries, and sour cherries. After the fruit elements, the black pepper and dried herbs “kick-in,” such as the usual spice blend consisting of Herbs de Provence. Next up “to bat” are the mineral, stoniness, and earthy elements, along with perfectly-integrated oak elements that contribute to the perfect amount of creaminess and richness. This wine pours dark and is medium-bodied and has fabulous structural elements, with age-worthy and elegant tannins and food-friendly and palate-cleansing acidity. All of the wine’s elements are gorgeously harmonized and well-integrated, resulting in a beautifully well-balanced, deeply-flavored, complex, and food-friendly and delicious red blend. This wine is indeed drinking beautifully right now and has the structural elements and “legs” to continue to age and mature gracefully and beautifully for the next possibly 10 years. I paired this wine with lamb chops topped with a rosemary, garlic, and parsley puree/pesto. This wine paired perfectly with the lamp chops and has the depth-of-flavors and complexity to pair well with just about any red meat protein, such as lamb shanks/racks/chops, prime rib, and just about any type/kind of steak. This beauty paired beautifully with the lamb chops and would pair well with any red meat dish for the next 5-to-10 years. As usual, just about any/all T.C. wines are 90+ points worthy!!!!!!!

Nice QPR. Great tar from the syrah. Really got good after 1 hour. Definitely decant before drinking, at least one hour. Dark fruit on the palate. Even with the strong tar and syrah up front, the grenache still came through. I think this wine can be consumed now but it certainly will not be over the hill in 3 years, so no hurry yet.

Not one of the best TCV wines, but it is their lowest end GSM, non estate. For the $14 I paid, not bad. But I keep getting pickier as I get older and this is just an "okay" wine. Certainly no wine making flaws, just a victim of vineyard selection and vintage.

This was OK for an American GSM, didn't seem as good as the bottle reviewed on 8-6-14, which was smooth also, but had more to it. In fact, THIS ONE seemed a little light and thin, but you can tell there was some fruit character there, maybe it just didn't quite get there, hard to believe the wine is too old. For the price, can not recommend - although this may have been a victim of a bad 2011 vintage, so we will keep an open mind for the 2012, we have a couple of bottles of that. I would be concerned with the substantial variation (lack of consistency) bottle to bottle with this wine.

Definitely not up to the usual TCV quality. I know it is the lowest level red, but may be a combination of that and the 2011 vintage. I found it much to simple for my tastes.

Drinking very well, very complex in its medium light weight, but still deep strawberry flavors mingle with complex forest and barnyard (like ripe mourvedre) flavors. It's a complex nose, and medium long and balanced finish. Should still get better for another year.

Disappointing. Not very complex, grape juicy. My first experience with the Perrin property in CA and I was expecting much better things.
(As a side note, I find it interesting the difference between reviews in the 85-87 range here. Some like mine, others in the "great everyday Rhone" category. I dunno, if I pay almost $20 for a CdR, I expect more. I can easily find an 87 point CdR for $10 - from the Perrins too.)

Dark ruby color with intriguing aromas that are at once both pungent and sweet with intermingled bacon fat, red fruits, black pepper, olive tapenade, and a hint of bittersweet chocolate. On the palate it's very smooth, well balanced and fresh with juicy dark cherry, strawberry, warm flavors with a spicy mineral laden finish. Blend of Blend of 52% Syrah,29% Grenache,18% Mourvedre and 1% Counoise 13.7% alcohol

Struggle to call this medium-bodied, tremendously smooth and slightly restrained. Agree w comments this is a Cali version of a Cotes Du Rhone and that no one varietal stands out-it all blends together superbly. The complexity and depth were off the charts..could not place all the tastes - certainly black cherry/black licorice/minerality. Sadly, bought the last three bottles. Fine wine for the price ($18.99). Great red sipping wine or pair with lighter fare. Don't see long term aging potential, but another 6-12 mos might make it even more interesting.

Good go to affordable wine that keeps the whole table happy. Served slightly chilled it improves the whole deal. I'll keep buying and drinking this every year. Perfectly balanced blend. No one varietal dominates.

A bit of earthy gameyness on the nose; deep, sweet red berries on the palate with good acidic balanace; smooth tannins. A fine rendition of a Cotes du Rhone in a new world style.

Once again a stellar showing. Dark but not opaque ruby-purple. Big tears. Has the lovely crunchy wild berry fruit and cigar box nose I love so much. Palate is great, too, with ripe, round, yet full berry fruit. Unctuous and opulent, but has fine balance. I really admire this wine, and the price is unbelievable! 4-13-16-9: 92/100.

PnP. The nose was dominated by notes of beef blood and plums with a hint of sage. Medium to full-bodied with at least a medium+ finish. Very savory. Great value, but not for those looking for oodles of fruit over meat juice. Surprisingly hit and miss at the table with food pairings. Did not compliment our bison burgers.

This is, once again, brilliant. Brooding dark ruby. Oodles of rich, juicy, earthy fruit wrapped in smoky, smoldering cigar box aromas. Plenty of garrigue in this. Follows up beautifully in the mouth with loads of unctuous earthy fruity flavors. Mouthfilling yet not overly tannic or earthy. Long finish. I definitely prefer this wine on the warmer side, say 70 rather than 65 degrees. Really shows its stuff. Incredible value. 4-13-17-9: 93/100.

Very lovely wine in every way. Dark cranberry color. Excellent deep, rich fruit in the nose, with a fabulous cigar box element much in evidence. Palate is much of the same, with very rich fruit and cut, grip. Lovely rich mouthfeel, a bit rustic but mouthfilling. This is special, and a smashing bargain. 4-14-16-9: 93/100.

While this is reportedly dominated by syrah, the grenache is clearly evident, and lends a very glossy texture to the palate. Lots of spice, earth, and deep red fruit with a tart edge. There's a bit of sweetness to this wine, but it's not cloying or obtrusive, and it all comes together quite nicely. Nice QPR.

Decanted about 1 hour. This wine was fantastic from the first pour, but kept on getting better. Slight smokiness and earthiness on a cherry based nose. Medium bodied with underlying earthiness and minerality on the tongue highlighted by lively raspberry and cherry fruit flavors. This wine is very smooth with just enough tannins to provide structure. Finishes long. Elegant and on the darker side falvor wise, this paired perfectly with grilled lamb.

Dark ruby color with promising dark red fruit, peppery spice and a hint of damp earth aromas. On the palate, it's medium-bodied and smooth with bright cherry, spice, and mineral flavors. Polished mouthfeel, and very good length that substantially over-delivers for the price

Notable for intense aromas of Syrah, a melding of old and new world flavors. For $15 to get a wine of this quality and complexity, it changed over the few hours we enjoyed a bottle, what more can you ask for? Not going to blow your mind, but it's always reliable.

I'm not liking this as much as I did several earlier bottles. Not sure if it's just in a phase or whether it's a drink-young bottling that is already in decline. The Syrah dominates, very California, ripe, simple, robust, best paired with hearty fare, roasted meats, that sort of thing.

At home. Opened last night. Very dark cranberry. Good viscosity. Nose has an off-putting bubble gum note right from the get-go. Hard to get past that. Flavors are much better, with smoky, bacon-like fruit. And it does have plenty of red fruity flavors. But not nearly as good or complex as other bottles recently opened. Disjointed and diffuse. What happened to this bottle? 4-0-11-3: 68/100.

At home. This is very fine. Lovely dark ruby, and decent legs too. The nose on this is just a knockout. Beautiful garrigue wrapped in a cigar box of fruit. Very brash and enticing. A real fruit bomb, but no simpleton; it is complexity to the max. Light-medium body, very polished, with a very strong, complex, delicious fruit profile. I absolutely love this wine. Hard to believe it can be had for about $15 on discount. A definite case-buy wine. And I bet it will last a bit too. 4-13-17-9: 93/100.

Excellent brilliant , brooding dark cranberry color. Not opaque. Oodles of black raspberry fruit aromas jump from the glass; this is a very forward, in your face wine. Smoldering, smoky cigar box mixed in. Very bright, crunchy, candy-like fruit, but hemmed in with sufficient tannin and acid to avoid flabbiness. Nice secondary flavors unfold quite a while in a surprisingly nuanced long fruit finish. 4-12-16-8: 90/100.

Dark cranberry with a ruby rim. Very expressive nose, with garrigue, cigar box, and crunchy raspberry fruit. My style for sure. Same flavor profile. Sleek mouthfeel, very light on its feet, even a bit lacking in terms of body, but a winner nonetheless. Medium finish. Nose beats mouth, but that's OK. 4-13-15-8: 90/100.

Fresh, with straightforward fruit that takes about 12 hours to show tannin and something in the way of character. Good nose of gamey Syrah and raspberry kirsch-like Grenache. Rather simple on the palate on opening, trending toward a more multidimensional feel with time, but really does not have what I would call complexity. Has some "garrigue," a sort of mediterranean scrub-bush melange of thyme, lavender, oregano, fennel, and other savory scents. At this price point ($15-20) I think a good Cotes de Rhone or Lirac like Clos Sixte of Domaine Grand Veneur is tastier even if lacking TC impeccability.

Very nice wine but when you factor in the price this is an excellent wine. When unscrewing the top you immediately are struck by aromas of berries, the color is nice dark crimson and the wine coats the glass and exhibits very long legs. In the mouth the wine is spicy with some dark berries on the palate and a long cinnamon finish. This is the kind of wine I would like to share a glass with JF.

Fairly complex nose of green veggies, plum and rhubarb. Lower acidity, but still "juicy", spicy tart reds, herbs, good black tea notes from the mourvedre in the background. Little bit of olive and pepper finish. Interesting wine. Probably priced about right. Day 2 update. Much better on day 1. I wouldn't hold these overnight.

Color: medium/light ruby -> medium ruby rim. Grenache driven bouquet of red fruits - strawberry primarily. Pleasant, fairly simple wine: strawberries, vanilla and a little cotes-du-rhone spice on the medium bodied palate. A little punchy and primary at this point but a nice everyday drinker.

The group loved this one. Not that it scored the highest, but it was a fun wine that we could all see amplifying even the most humble weeknight meal. Very approachable. Voluminous legs, reflecting a medium to full body. The Syrah is definitely up front right now with some barnyard notes followed by blackberries, blueberries and peach/apricot. An excellent value.

W tuna burger / ginger and eggplant. The ginger punished the wine but this is good! It probably is better with a year of bottle life to round out. But great rhone style and super QPR. Air is key for this wine. Straight out of the bottle the nose is jammy and makes me think of linzer torte with maybe more blackberry than raspberry. Lots of alcohol on the first whiff. With air (say a couple of hours) the nose mellows with licorice and pepper coming to the fore. The attack is smooth, rich, velvety and spicy all at once. Tongue-coating is the phrase that really come to mind. At all stages the attack remains very consistent giving this wine a gulpable quality. The midpalate reprises the fruit in the nose with the tannins asserting themselves more and more with continued aeration. After two hours the fruit is perfectly subdued and the real stars of the midpalate are tea and hybiscus flower (rather like the popular Mexican drink jamaica minus the cloying sugar and some of the tartness). Beautiful, dense finish with lots of raisin and prune. Great wine for the price, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops over time.
