  • Clear, medium garnet. Initially cherries and dusty notes. Opens up after about an hour. Ethereal notes, slight campher, leather, sweet/sour cherries. High but fine tanins. Concentrated, high acid. A really great wine with perfect maturity for me.

  • Thanks to the folks who wrote accurate tasting notes on this wine recently, I can finally say that I had Produttori Barbaresco that delivered on it's reputation. I've had several aged Produttori Barbaresco wines that either failed to blossom before the bottle was gone, or that failed to blossom even over several days of tasting. This bottle was exactly what I would expect a 12 year old Riserva to taste like:
Aromas of cool climate blueberries, ripe black plum, black truffle shavings, rose petal, black berry, red licorice. On the attack there is initially a touch of sweet fruit, followed by medicinal herbs. There is still the massive acid and tannin you would expect from Barbaresco, but there is also powerful aromas and flavors to compensate. The tannins are also a little less gritty and scratchy than they would be in a younger vintage. The finish is dominated by dried blackberry, concord grape, menthol and structure. Score is 93+ with the plus indicating that I think this wine will be even better in a few years time as these tannins continue to integrate. I'm happy to have the better part of a case remaining, but wont open another bottle before Fall of 2025. My reasoning is that while this had good structure to stand up to my mushroom pasta dish tonight, it actually had too much fruit and dominated the subtle mushroom flavors in the pasta. I much preferred the almost devoid-of-fruit 2001 Luigi Einaudi Barolo with my pasta. However, if you were going to eat some braised lamb tonight then this 2011 Asili would probably make a great pairing.

  • Superb and super elegant Barbaresco. "Feminine and ethereal" as other notes report. Some chewy tannins are still there, with balsamic hints and spice in a full basket of red ripe fruit and underbrush. Harmony is the name of the game. At the top of Barbaresco with still a long life ahead . Perfect companion in a blue evening

    Belle robe rouge sang, brillante.

  • Perfect after 2 hours decanting. Still 5-10 year to go.

  • A real elegance to this wine. You got the righ floral rose and ripe cherry notes, and they are really well defined. The wine had a certain lightness to it, but the tannins no where close to integrated and finished hard as nails. Maybe ten more years to try again.

  • Open 2 hours before. (Zalto Burgundy glass)
Second bottle of the box, the first was perhaps with some problems, very oxidative.
This has still a orange color, but some red hints are present. Dried rose, iron, light violet, alcohol, licorice, spicy (something like aftershave cream, so it might be menthol and some Indy spices) and rhubarb. Mouthfeel still has high tannins dry and not resolved, then an high acidity and long persistence let you forgive it in some ways.
A wine that ask a lot of attention, patience and it is not definitely immediate.
In my opinion has already reached its highest peak.

  • After 1 hour in the decanter, the wine shows beautiful. Intoxicating Nebbiolo nose, with sweet cherries, roses and tar, creamy mouthfeel, very elegant. Tannins still present, expecting this wine to profit from another 2-3 years.

  • Oxidized… disappointed. I will try another bottle from the box, hope this had been an isolated case.

  • Clear medium red. Pure, fresh red fruit nose, floral background. Delicious young Nebbiolo flavours and a very tannic finish.

A great young Barbaresco that gives a hint of a great future. Lovely to drink now but wait.

  • Simply gorgeous. Perfect balance and elegance, seems weightless. But still with a lot of power. It will age to be even better in 5-10 years but it is almost irresistible now.

  • Opened, and poured into a wide mouth decanter. tasted over three hours.
Ruby garnet color. Lovely floral and ripe cherry nose.
Good red fruit with that floral lift giving a nice dimension to the wine. Some tart red cherry mixes in along the way.

Tasted along a 2010 Albino Rocca Ronchi barbaresco, which showed a darker fruit profile. In contrast, this Asili was a lighter and more elegant showing of nebbiolo.

    14.5% abv.

  • Fresh and energetic. Red-fruited aromas and palate, balanced, refined and high-pitched. Room for further development as tannins are still very much in evidence. Better with food. Great wine.

  • Drank over two days.

This made a striking impression, compared to the same producer's and vintage Rio Sordo, from the outset. Tremendous elegance, poise, and quite simply, gorgeous!

More of everything Asili on the second day, sleek yet powerful. Bright cherry, rhubarb, raspberry, meadow flowers, herbal teas, orange marmalade, and light petrol, all moving in enchanting sway. Delivering medium plus acid and medium, gritty tannins. Highly appealing in all regards.

This bottle was still evolving. Improvement seems possible, if not likely. Likely to peak in 10 to 12 years, and hold for several years thereafter. 94-95.

  • Note from almost a year ago is still applicable. "Feminine and ethereal. Red fruit, balsamic and spice. Chewy unobtrusive tannins." Two hours in a decanter and it was singing.

  • Superb after a couple of hours in a decanter. Feminine and ethereal. Red fruit, balsamic and spice. Chewy unobtrusive tannins. Game on for our other bottles from the 2011 vintage. This one is in a good place.

  • Dark ruby red...gorgeous fruit, rose petals, menthol, blood orange ...still primary with plenty of sap and dry extract, despite being one year shy of a decade...very good mid palate weight and lingering finish...this is going to be very very good in five years but not a crime to open one now for more of that younger Barolo fruit flavors as the tannins are present but very manageable.

  • The energy of primary fruit has faded, intermediate phase still waiting for maturity notes. The fruit is a little warm and clumbsy, not that laserlike sharpness that can be found in the 08´s. 92p now, but could reach 94-95p with some mushrooms notes and thinner body i a couple of years,

  • I think this is in a really good spot now, with some air and at cellar temp it boasts a big perfume of roses, tar, cherryliqueur, some tertiary aromas but plenty of vibrant fruit. Pair with rich creamy pasta and the tannins sing together. wish I had more. Asili is together montefico cru the top ones of the range in my book. This cooperative producer just keeps outperforming itself.

  • Decanted for 2.5 hours. Aromas of tar, cherry, rose petal, mineral and currant. Flavors of tar, cherry, raspberry, earth and rhubarb. Ends with a long finish of 40+ seconds with cherry and tar notes. Really drinking quite well for such a young Barbaresco.

  • When I visited the Produttori in 2018, Aldo Vacca suggested that 2009 and 2011 were vintages to drink early, while holding onto the 2008 and 2013 wines for the longer term.

Remembering that advice, I opened the 2011 Asili, and was not disappointed. While it had not developed old wine nuances, it was still very much open and drinking quite well. All the rose and tar elements were there, along with dusty red fruit. It was not at all a tannic beast, in fact surprising with its structure that seemed more acid focused, rather than based on tannin.

With several more bottles, I will likely end up with at least a couple getting to the 18-20 age window, but have no regrets about drinking one now.

  • High acidity at first. Not enjoyable.
After 1-2 hours in caraffe it opened up to be beautiful, floral perfect tannins.

    Longueur moyenne.
    Attendre ou donner beaucoup d’air.

  • Produttori Del Barbaresco Masterclass, with Aldo Vacca (Handford Wines, London): The celebrated one and usually the most intense. Much like Pora, Rio Sordo, Paje this was on the closed and early of 2011s. Definitely rounder and with a dollop of extra richness but still this is very young. Softer red fruit, less aggressive and more stylish or charming. Still very young though. give this 5yrs

  • Just outstanding.. gorgeous dark red fruit with defined notes of tar, violets, spice and a hint of licorice. Tannins are elegant and line the periphery; great balance with the acids and weight of the fruit. Very barbaresco in profile.

    Excellent

  • Same btl as R&Rler. As we drank this I was thinking I likely owned some of these but apparently not. This is a work in progress that surprised me with its tannic grip and semi robust brooding presence for a 2011 Produttori Asili Barbaresco. I would have expected this to more ethereal, Burgundian in weight and a bit less stern. That said, the fruit, minerality and general flavor profile along with the aromatics are varietally correct. Just a bit disjointed at this stage. I fully expect this will improve significantly with age. Color was a bit more opaque ruby than I would have expected but still nebbiolo correct. Tonight this drank more like young Barolo than Barbaresco while my companion '13 Burlotto Acclivi seemed more like Barbaresco for my palate.

  • Full Bodied Reds (Young Joni, NE Mpls): Dark red color. PNP, drank glass over an hour. Big nose of ripe strawberry and darker fruits; the palate has a plush texture with lots o minerality and spice, appealing, licorice, very firm tannins. Needs 3-5 years. Very promising. 91(+)pts.

  • Popped and poured. Be still, my beating heart! Abundant fruit, tannin and acid...pretty much in perfect harmony. This is about as high powered a Barbaresco I've ever had. An already impressive drink but I have little doubt that it will show even better down the road when it takes on some secondary characteristics. What a beauty!

  • 2017 New York Wine Experience Trip; 10/16/2017-10/25/2017 (New York City, NY): It is easy to be duped into thinking that this Nebbiolo will be a lightweight, based upon its medium red/garnet color. However, once one delves into the aromas and flavors of this gem, it becomes clear that there is more than meets the eye. Intensely aromatic and flavorful, it serves up a smörgåsbord of red currants, plums, pipe tobacco, violets, cocoa and savory herbs. Medium-to-full-bodied, freshly acidic and with nicely integrated alcohol, it is layered on the mid-palate and closes with a long, tannic finish. This is stellar material, but will require some patience. It may merit a higher score in the future. Drink 2020-2040.

  • Didn't take notes, but this was pretty disappointing given the hype. Decanted over dinner and given plenty of time in the glass - it just wasn't memorable at all. Have a few cases so hope this improves with 10-20yrs but it is far from exciting at the moment. Maybe just structured (to be kind)? Judgement reserved for a decade.

  • Tuesday Night Double Blind $60+ (Alpharetta, GA): Bright ruby; light and elegant nose, young, sexy, a little cinnamon, has yet to put on some weight, higher alcohol, riper vintage; a bit simpler at this stage but tasty.

  • Tasted over three days, alongside the same vintage Rabaja. This wine offered elegant perfume of fresh and candied red berries, strawberry, raspberry, and sweetened cranberry in particular, pomegranate, candied citrus, rosehips, spring flowers, teas (black, white, red, and herbal), and wafting notes of kerosene. Sleek and silky attack, the luxurious middle touches every part of the palate. Ripe, fine-grain tannins announce their presence here as well, clamp down at the back, and linger through a complex yet delicate finish. Structured, balanced, and satisfying. Higher pitched and more red-fruited than the Rabaja throughout.

A very pretty wine, possibly the prettiest 2011 vintage Barbaresco I have tasted, backed by seductive power. Indeed, even the stalwart tannic grip comes off smoothly. Likely to evolve for a decade or more and peak around 2040. 95-96.

  • As with previous tastes, this is a top Produttori Riserva. The aromas are black berries, dark cherries, dark florals and minerals. On the palate, it's relatively open and accessible at six years of age. Fully ripe and rich. Lots of black berries and other dark fruit with herbs and rocky minerals. A touch of espresso and tar. Clean and pure with decent acidity for a warmer vintage. Good weight, power and length. Serious tannins structure. Ideally give it 10+ years cellar time.

  • First of three bottles. Still very youthful. Red berry fruit flavours are fresh and concentrated, with a warmth that is not at all jammy. Acidity and tannic backbone is there suggesting the wine has many years ahead of it. Did not decant and it was considerably better on day 2. This is drinkable now but I'll wait another few years before opening my next one.

  • This is such a baby. Pnp, beautiful nose of wild strawberries, cherries, crushed fennel seed, sandalwood, tar, pepper and blond tobacco. This Barolo-like coat the palate with huge tannic structure but remains fresh with good acid backbone. This hides the delicate fruit and floral frame of the palate. This is really good, but way too young. I'll crack the next one in 10-15 years (could be 95-96 at that time).

  • After a recent 2011 Rabajà, a friend suggested that I revisit the 2011 Asili, which he thought might be even better. And it is an outstanding Produttori Cru, for me just a step behind the Rabajà. Surprisingly accessible at only five years of age. A lovely, lifted bouquet of gentle florals, spices and red berries. In the mouth, succulent and sweet seeming on the initial attack, although it's bone dry. Compact and pure. More dark fruited on palate, with herbal, savoury and mineral elements. Satiny mouthfeel. Good acidity and length. Tons of structure and fruit volume for the longer term. If you can resist, give it 10 years in the cellar.

  • bottle number 22 of 13,333
I found this as a solo in a wine shop in Tokyo, the guy laughed at me when I said it would be consumed soon.
Drunk over 2 days and hardly moved, great tannic grip and very nice acidity. this will require some patience, but it is clearly a stinking good wine. Cranberry, raspberry, leather, nutmeg, mushroom, tannin, tannin and.
I bought 6 more after my first glass and now wish I bought 12 having finished the bottle, come back in 10 years.

Lette, faste tanniner i utgang. God lengde.

  • Stunning expression of Barbaresco. The QPR on this wine is through the roof!

One of the greatest young Barbaresco's that I've ever tasted. Drinking well now with a long decant, but has a very long life ahead of it. Drink 2018-2030+

  • First test drive of one of the 2011 Produttori Riserva bottlings, and if they are all like this I will be very happy. Starting off the wine is very accessible, and reminds me of the 2007. Red cherry fruit and dusty floral notes dominate the aromatics. Where the wine shines right now is on the palate, where there is richness aligned with grace. There is some notable tannin on the finish, which builds as the wine is open. So this is certainly drinkable now, but has plenty of stuffing.

  • BOOM! This is the most open, rounded young Riservas I think I've tasted from Produttori - this has the potential to be veeeerrrry good - even now at this stupidly young age it roars out of the glass with sweet, perfumed flowers and red fruits mixed with a touch of mushroom. On the palate this is super refined with a sweet, nuanced fruit but underneath there is a nice tannic grip. This is good. Its great now - in 20 years this will be sensational.

  • At the winery: Low aromatics on the nose at this point, lighter style, brown sauce, balsamic, very dry tannins, long silky elegance but lighter style, closed, not showing potential now. Check back, but I much prefer the Ovello. Just as the cantina notes state, "certainly not a full bodied Barbaresco", and "usually quite closed in its youth". Compare with Giacosa! 91-92

  • The 2011 Produttori del Barbaresco Crus (The Wine Club, San Francisco): Slightly lighter red core, definitely one of the least saturated colors. Backward, darker aromatics with a strong component of tobacco. Bigger, rounder ripe cherry fruit with great depth cut by rising acidity and fairly furry tannins. This finishes dry and earthy and was the most penetrating of all the wines, reaching the gums and every crevice of the palate. Not at all ready, but that great upfront fruit leaves no doubt about great things to come once the underlying structure resolves. I'd hide this one for a good 10 years.

  • Almost a confectionary/candied/fruit roll-up thing going on in the nose which is really pretty. Nose is open and elegant - dried cherries, roses, very floral, and silk on the palate. Lots of primary rich red fruit, and a ton of power with sneaky ripe tannins kicking in on the finish. This is the best 2011 cru I've tried thus far (although Rabaja is next up and is usually my favorite), and proof that this was an excellent vintage in Barbaresco.

  • Casual Wine Dinner (Grand Sichuan at St. Marks, New York City): From a bottle that had been opened for a few days and amazingly consistent with a bottle I tried with a pop n' pour not too long ago. Beautiful, full and powerful nose offers black cherry and some tar notes. Palate has so much depth and power. Great rich fruit meets tense acidity. Tannins are there but cloaked by pure, velvety fruit. Enjoy this now before it shuts down.

  • Same bottle as 5/30. The first glass I poured showed a quick moment, both on the nose and palate, of real excellence: a superb blend of dark blue and purple fruits, menthol, spice, purple flowers, tar, licorice. The palate was finally integrated with the harshness gone but still with substantial structure - dark fruits and flowers, spice, funk, animale, anise, tar, leather. The tannins are smooth and supple. There was only a short window like this, once lots of air hit it again, it seemed to lose that moment, but I think it's an accurate window into what this will be like in 20 years. Clearly in the 17-17.5/20 range.

  • PnPed. More science for the A. So. foundation. This is my 2nd experience with Produttori Asili, and I'm starting to get a feel for it. This is fairly wound but there is a lot of good stuff going on. Deep dark fruit - black cherry and blackberry, along with mint/menthol, herbs, dark flowers, some earth, tar. Compared to the Rabaja, this has a high-toned and wicked structure aspect: it's a dried orange peel with minerals with stones, acid and puckery coating tannins. It enters with tart cherry, cranberry, minerals, orange peel, fine but tough tannins. Potent on the finish, a bit hostile at this point, and showing a touch of heat, but this is mostly from the youth, I think. Finish is tart, red, very acid with red and citric aspects. It does finish pure, I will give it that. Needs 15+ in my opinion but really excellent potential. Nose - 5-5.5/6, Palate - 5+/6, Finish - 4.5+/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 15.5-16.5+/20 (with 16.5-17.5/20 potential.)

  • Super-impressive showing as a babe Barbaresco. Full, aromatic nose of concentrated dried cherries, fresh flowers, dense earth tones and spice. The palate is dense and concentrated yet silky and lithe. Suave refined tannins meld with the fruit for a polished mouth feel. Just the right amount of grip from the tannins in the finish to remind you of the relative youth here. A stupid bargain at ~$50.

  • The nose showed minerals up front with rosy floral tones, and young red fruits. On the palate, I found soft, silky textures in a feminine display with tart red fruits and mounting tannin. The finish was long and quite pretty, showing pretty hard red candies with hints of contrasting tannin.

  • 2015 Tasting at Produttori del Barbaresco with Aldo Vacca: The main part of the famous vineyard is a protected bowl facing southwest far from the river. Vibrant ruby. A perfumed, captivating bouquet, with a nice floral lift. Aromas of dried and fresh roses. The best Riserva so far and presently showing one of the best of the tasting. Some sweetness on entry. Supple, charming and fresh. Very delicate and elegant. Well balanced and proportioned. Very long. Just when you think it is finishing the power really comes through, reminding you this is a serious wine with real structure. Excellent!
