The wine is clear, with medium gold color and thick legs. On the nose the wine is clean, with medium aromas of honey, honeysuckle, ripe white fruits, hints of lemon, and lemon zest, with no signs of oxidation. On the palate the wine starts with an off dry feeling, medium plus acidity, medium body, medium alcohol, medium plus flavors of lemon, grapefruit, lemon zest, hints of honey, honeysuckle, fresh green herbs, white ripe fruits, and sour pear. Finish is more dry and mineral. The wine is of an excellent quality, due to its depth, and complexity profile of both aromas and flavors, but it is still slight greenish, although very appealing now. The wine can reach a whole new level of maturity in about 5-8 years, while keeping the great structure it has.

Tasting Ground official tasting, 2012 Domaine Huet sec (Oinoscent): Bottle uncorked 11:00, tasted 14:00 The wine shows more evolution than the other two, the fruit is riper, earthy, mushroom, the smooky element lies further back, citrus/quince jam, bergamot preserve. It shows depth and complexity though, broader than the rest. In the palate, the wine shows the same flavor profile, medium acidity, overripe lime, lime zest, medium body, medium finish. I have to say that I was expecting more, felt lacking something

My take on this wine is that its rich golden color and aromas of honey, straw, quince, and apple are its natural, intended characteristics, not the effect of premature oxidation. Regardless, this wine should be appreciated for the uniqueness and complexity of its sweeter aromas and how they contrast with its apple juice undercurrents. Overall, this wine is balanced and intriguing, with plenty of intensity.

PnP, got better with every minute and as is got warmer. Quince, hazelnut and a hint of sweet blossom, medium to high acidity, good mouthfeel and a very long finish. Nice Chenin Blanc typicality with good freshness, beginning maturity, already superb but has additional potential for many more years.

My only question about this wine is how do I feel about the level of oxidation. Oxydation is present and you cannot miss it. But it is not overwhelming. If you like it, you will surely find it pleasantly “complicating” and the wine fine indeed. If you don’t - like myself - I am left asking myself if this is what I signed up for when I bought the wine. I don't recall on release the wine tasting like this. Is this level of oxidation intended ? Huet afficionados will know better than I. All the other components of the wine are fine.

This bottle was lightly oxidized, which was a surprise. However, the pear fruit, depth of flavor and balance made it quite enjoyable nonetheless. Just pretend you’re in Spain!

Unlike the preceding two, this bottle was not obviously oxidized, showing fresh, autumn straw coloration. It showed some mineral, characteristic Chenin acidity, and a smidgen of fruit flavor - all about on par for this vintage. There's a exceptional dryness at its core that could be a further vintage characteristic, or the onset of bottle oxidation ... drinking today's remainder may help to clarify which.
Reading about the 2019 vintage, based on my recent experiences, I'd want to know quite a bit more about Huet's recent track record, with respect to corks and oxidation, before acquiring much additional stock. I'll be opening a 2008 Bourg sec pretty soon, hoping to further gauge the state of affairs there.

Premoxed just like every other bottle from Huet in 2012. All three crus. You can tell there's a classy wine under there somewhere, but the roasted apricot nose in a dry wine is simply not tolerable. Oh, and the 2010s? One bottle left of the Clos du Bourg. Not holding out much hope. That vintage, too, badly premoxed. I have quit buying Huet after 30 years of fandom, no matter what the early raves say. This simply should not happen.

golden with amber hues; quite understated, hint of wool, apricot pit; dry with just a hint of RS in the attack, high acidity but in balance. Very nice, elegant, somewhat subtle for a Chenin. Adrien's b-day

Disappointing, pre-mox, still drinkable but clearly not as fresh as it should be. Nutty and oxidative notes. Quite dry, hints of wet wool and tart apple, orange, honey, high acidity. With Pad see ew. Decent pairing but needs to be fresh and clean, maybe demi-sec with chili paste added.

Strong ginger root at first then openning up to brused ripe apple, apple compote, touch of lemon peel, highish acidity, fullish body, long finish. Next day improved and more complex. No hurry to drink though it has matured a little quicker than expected.

Fresh wool, guava, apple peel, orange peel, rather clean, not funky or strong CB character; easily slides into the mouth, med. body, high acidity but very approachable, completely dry, tingly long finish, this is a wonder, so elegant, seemingly easy going, but like a snake in the grass. Not tons of character, just a joy to drink. Perfect with orange chicken and eggrolls with sweet and sour.

(Mostly) Chenin Night: Wow, lots of bad experience with this wine it seems, but I found this bottle to be lively and pretty. Not as complex or age-worthy as other vintages but it showed well, with no oxidation. Lemon, quince, white tea, honey, deep, richer elements but it's balanced well. Not sure it has the stuffing to age, and this was my only bottle, but happy how it showed for sure.

Tasted 48 hours after it had been opened and recorked. Full yellow color. Apple and pear aromas. It has held up well without oxidation, but it is missing the texture, intensity, and sharp definition of fruit that marks the better, more memorable vintages. It does have the late soil that I often find in Clos du Bourg. Not a bad wine, just pretty dull and a fraction of what it can be.

A reasonably. good bottle; as always, this vintage is especially highly acidic, though it mellows a bit after the first day. Not sure where these are headed. Good now with food, though less appealing on its own; hard to read what it will be like in 3-5 years. Drank over several days, during which it tired very slowly, so don't feel there's any rush.

This is terrible wine. The 2012 Clos du Bourg is the maligned stepchild of what had to be a challenging vintage for Huet. It is worse than its cousin, the Le Mont. I recently used this for cooking and am not certain I would do that again. Avoid at all costs. As I mentioned in my note on the Le Mont, I really question the merit of cellaring this wine. In the coming weeks, I will be tasting the 14 and the 16 Le Mont and Bourg and will post notes on those. I don't normally post, but I wanted to get this out there for those in the community that have these bottles that might be relishing them for later. They are not worth the space in your cellars. Kindly...M
I liked this wine but my guests had trouble with it, and few of them finished the glass. It seems slightly oxidized, not in a bad way, but I guess that it has become a less directly appealing bottle, with some nutty aromas, but also a bit of VA and a loss of acidity that makes the wine a bit flabby. It could be a cork issue (cork was rock-hard and extremely dry). I myself might have scored the bottle 88, but my guests probably would have opted for 84. I'll just call it unrated because the bottle was possibly defective.

decanted for an hour, while dong the decant I was fairly alarmed at the color of deep gold, made me think of the lit dieu of yesterday which was fairly oxidized. However while rich and very viscous the flavors were quite nice, bruised apple, nuts, viscous honeysuckle. Nice overall but I'm not so hopeful that this would live longer. I know chenin's that do live longer but this one on the back of yesterdays' wine leaves me doublful.

From memory, wasn't taken with this wine on the first night and cursed Gilman under my breath - seemed not-well-balanced, thin, tough. Second and third days it was much improved, however. The sharp angles had been smoothed. Still lean for a Huet Bourg, even a sec, but with better balance and integrity. Good with food, less so on its own. Drink cool with decent air time. Interested to see where these go: not a ton of apparent room for development, but stranger things have happened in my cellar.

Delish, a bit restrained, touch of lanoline, touch of honey, green apple, pineapple core; light oily texture, high acid, just a slight hint of oxy, but with very nice clean flavors for the most part. Lovely, needs time. Blind at Monica's.

Medium brassy-gold; wool, candle wax, sunflower seed, chamomile, grapefruit pith, touch of honey, apple core, pistachio oxy notes. Pretty cool, a bit thin in mid-palate, not a great vintage; touch ripe/very slight sweetness in the attack, I thought this lacked concentration but otherwise good. Blind at home.

ON PASSE!
Bit funky and wooly on the nose, darker gold, classic with a touch of RS, really good, but seemingly a little pre-mox or aged for 2012. Good storage, so not sure. Need to pop another. Okinawan food with M-Pole bunch

This has improved nicely since my bottle two years ago. Richer than previous bottle, but with the intense minerality I associate with this Vouvray. I think the statement about ginger applies, since it has a bite, but has a richness and sweetness -- if one can call such tautness and minerality sweet in any sense. Intensely elegant presentation overall.

Superbe.

Started slightly advanced and wooly, but got slightly creamy as it opened. Much better with 30 minutes air. Dry honey if that means anything with some lemon peel on the end. Maybe a hint of ginger? Each glass got richer and tastier. 91/92

I agree with DP this is stunning and probably at its peak. Inviting golden hues marry well with the expressive nose of honey and cooked apples. I got crystallized ginger on the palate along with citrus, honey and a dab of quince. Chiseled acidity in a voluptuous package. I don't see this improving unless you enjoy more oxidized flavors in your Chenins.

Cellartracker in the flesh with Pjhaines (Paul) (Various venues, London): From Coravin: honey, cream, lemon, slight green apple on the nose but it's rich and off dry (despite that sec) on the plate with honey over muted ripe apple. One to drag out at a Kabinett and Spatlese night to play with everyone's heads.

As usual Huet made it ! Served immediately; nose of lime, strange volatile medical cement (dentist or bone surgery), a hint of beeswax. Mouth so reassuring, full, vivid, fresh and fine. A mineral wine with lime, honeysuckle, long ending on a fine bitterness of lemon peal. Nineteen euros at the estate. I'm a fan, objective I hope. Drink now, at his peak.

Given recent controversies, I was keen to try a post-Pinguet Huet ... and it's very good. In a fairly dry style. Colour relatively deep gold. A lovely, energetic, clean and crisp bouquet. Aromas of limes and lemons, gentle spices, honeysuckle and chalky minerals with a herbaceous edge. Good weight on a palate driven by racy acidity. Very precise with great tension and refinement. Well balanced. Flavours of green apples, lime juice, pear and chalk with only a hint of honey. Good length. Give it 3+ years but I imagine it'll be long-lived.

Opened in memory of SFJoe, a melancholy gesture for sure. If there are problems with this (apart from youth) they aren't evident to this taster. This is dry Chenin as I want it: racy acidity, good mid-palate depth, some honeyed complexity atop green apple fruit. I can't forecast the evolution of dry Chenin worth a damn, but I'm fairly certain that this has a bright future ahead of it.

Clear, lemon colored exhibiting youthful, medium intensity aromas of lemon/lime zest, grapefruit, quince and apricot. Dry with a sweet kiss, high acidity and low alcohol presenting richly appointed flavors of aforementioned profiles on chalk/mineral base. Fruit is densely packed and provides a silky textured presence on the palate that is actively countered by characteristically high acidity and saline element. Provides an evenly distributed moderately long finish. Not all together as of yet but certainly nice at present. Worth following and interested to see where it’s headed.

EWG at AKA: parafin, lemon-pineapple, slight green melon with bees wax; clean, high acidity, medium plus mouthfeel; great structure on this, should age very well. Still a bit austere, lean, but racy and balanced with very long finish. Dry with just a touch of RS in the form of sweet fruitiness. 92-93

This Bourg sec showed nice Chenin acidity in a very lean, austere presentation, with no trace of apparent RS to round out the twangy tartness or lend the wine some body in the mouth. Characteristic aromas of grapefruit, mild pit fruit. The acidity seemed to relax just a bit with extended air time. I imagine this wine will improve with age, but it doesn't impress now as a great Bourg sec, and it's struggling to show balance.

An informal dinner at an anesthesiologist's (Marseille, France): Two cases just recieved from the estate; bottle open and tasted few seconds after cooling. Nose obvious of chenin, with yellow lemon juice, lime blossom leaves. Mouth straight with finesse, salty, mouthwatering, mineral. Long and simple after taste, with those lime tree, and a bit of hay.

Light golden color. A touch of oxidation on the nose. Hard to describe this wine, very unique. Some pear and guava notes. Finish is long, slightly sour. Great pairing with breaded chicken. I like it!

Delish, a bit restrained, touch of lanoline, touch of honey, green apple, pineapple core; light oily texture, high acid, just a slight hint of oxy, but with very nice clean flavors for the most part. Lovely, needs time. Blind at Monica's.

Golden in the glass. Nose disappoints but this was beautiful with Smoked Salmon starter and Baked Halibut wth tarragon sauce. A touch of sweetness just added to the experience. Great value at this price.

Much more golden that I remember this to be, the oxidizing flavours are starting to come out in full force; not totally appealing to me but still a wine best with food and not solo. Drink up if you have some left.

Soft, medium gold. Medium intensity floral, pear, and rock aromas. Some lighter quinine and honey notes. Intense quince aromas in the mouth. Also medium pineapple and peach aromas. Slight salt/minerality aromas. Medium plus to high acidity. Medium plus body. Not bone dry but close. Very expressive and well balanced.

Alcool volatile présent au début mais s’évapore avec l’agitation du verre.
Les arômes fruitiers sont frais: la pomme et le coing. Une belle acidité, une longueur modérée.

Still a nice elegance. Very good

Time will give soon new flavors. Exceptionnal, for a unfavourable vintage (desease).90-92
