  • (Disgorged in May 2014, 100% Chardonnay, dosage 7 gr/L)
Lovely yellow colour with a nose showing incipient maturity with cream, butter and orange citrus fruit and opens up with hazelnuts and a hint of milk chocolate on the very nice and pleasant nose. Nice ripe red apples acidity with a creaminess combined with a warm orange citrus zesty bitterness on the lengthy finish and with lots of minerals leaving a lovely saltiness on the lips. This was showing delicious and the extra cellar time has really been rewarded!

  • (Disgorged in January 2015, 100% Chardonnay, dosage 7 gr/l)
Golden yellow colour with a mature nose showing butter, popcorn, dark mint chocolate and some dried herbs in a very delicious way. Nice creaminess with a lemon zesty acidity with raspberry minerals and butter on the mid to late and with a lovely and lengthy finish showing some tropical citrus notes. Wow! The saltiness on the lips from the minerality is just perfect.. excellent with the extra post-disgorgement time in my cellar! Perfect this warm and sunny afternoon!

  • DG 07/2010
Lots of mushrooms, hazelnut praliné, caramel, guirlache, sous-bois, coffee, toasted butter, white chocolate, pineapple in syrup, lots of flowers, lavender, some truffles, coconut, very sweet yellow peach, oloroso sherry, lots of salinity and minerals.
Dreamy texture, creamy, dense, syrupy with a wonderful and surprising acidity that makes this wine one of the best of this year. It will last forever.

  • Bottled in April 1996. Disgorged on 9th of May, 2012 - after 16 years of aging with the lees! 12,5% alcohol.

Pale golden yellow color, like fizzing honey. The nose feels toasty and very developed with ridiculously complex aromas of toasted bread, roasted walnuts, some cooked cream, a little bit of browned butter, a hint of mushroom and a touch of beeswax. Really, really lovely. The wine is complex and medium-bodied on the palate with some sense of concentration and sweetness brought by age and nuanced flavors of buttery toasted bread, creaminess, toffee, some steely minerality, a little bit of baked apple, a hint of tart lemony citrus fruit and a touch of burnt sugar. The wine is high in acidity with very fine and creamy mousse that feels very gentle and smooth. The finish is incredibly complex and lengthy with constantly developing, layered flavors of toasted bread, caramel, chopped nuts, some English toffee, a little bit of syrupy molasses, hints of tart lemony citrus fruits and green apples and a touch of tangy mineral salinity.

I've never been a big fan of young Blanc de Blancs. You know why? This wine is why! Young Blanc de Blancs are usually just one-dimensional, austere and refreshing at their best but underwhelming at their worst. However, given enough age, they become something magically good - as exemplified by this stunning Blanc de Blancs at +20 years of age. The sheer amount of nuances here is beyond comprehension and both the nose and the taste seem to be different with every sniff or taste, but never any less impressive than the previous time. The wine retains that bright, mineral and playful core that makes Blanc de Blancs what they are, but the years have coated it with layers upon layers of autolytic, developed and subtly oxidative nuances that make up this work of art that is Champagne. An extraordinary bubbly by any standards. Very highly recommended.

And on totally off-topic note, this was my 5000th tasting note. Whoopee!

  • New Year's Day Champagne Celebration (Brad & Marcia's Place, St. Paul, MN): Very good with meyer lemon, and citrus peel, hints of pear, moderate chalk, toast, deep and full. 93+pts.

  • Last of the six bottles purchased a couple of years ago. Similar notes with all bottles, but I think it is best slightly chilled and with some food. Meyer lemon in color and on the palate with aromas of freshly sliced Granny Smiths and room-temperature butter. Fine bubbles.

  • 95 is singing as usual. Bright fruit with a nutty nougat finish.

  • After another bottle that was a little oxidised, a better one. But clearly one that has evolved faster that I could expect. I need to pay attention for the next ones. But a great champagne.

  • Degosjering 2014

Nydelig gylden gul farge. Flott fylde. Over middels lengde.

2 glass stått i kjøleskapet i 3 døgn under kork: Vinen er fortsatt meget bra.

  • (Disgorged in January 2015) Deep yellow colour with a lovely nose with incipient maturity showing minerals, butter and citrus. Wonderfully maturing palate showing apple sauce and with a fresh acidic lemon finish. This is drinking very nicely now at 20+ years, and showing very little reductive notes and will keep on developing for at least another decade!

  • Pichon Lalande Tasting: Blind. Bready, oxidized style, a lot of mature yellow apples, good acidity, slightly big bodied.

  • One taster noted that this wine shows the typical high acidity of the 95 Vintage. Upon opening it was hard to get past it or taste anything else. Faint bready notes on the nose. Barely ripe green apple on the palate resulting from the acidity. With air the green apple notes gain strength and the acid integrates a bit. I enjoyed this biw but there is still room for this to improve.

  • Gylden gul. Nydelig nese. Fruktig og deilig. Kaffetoner. Tåler enda litt tid i kjelleren, men drikker bra bå.

  • No malolactic - degorged 05/2012.

Completely fresh and youthful. Might have guessed it as a 2004.

Nicely toasted, apple juice with a beautiful whiff of autolysis. I also sense a very faint aroma on the nose - something like an aged, sweet liquor.

On palate, creamy chardonay, medium/high acidity, 7g/l dosage which feels like a little on the high side. Only slightly complex and not at all challenging - but easy drinking and feels complete.

As it warms up it becomes a little flabby - keep it chilled!

A good effort and decent value at 90$.

  • 90's Cali Cab and the Kitchen Sink (Ursino in Union, NJ): Drank next to a '95 DP. Bubbles are much less evident here - only get them towards the end of the palatte. Lots of green apple, a bit of a softer wine, longer finish. Just a hint of sweetness which I think comes from the fruit. Also enjoyed.

  • July 2012 disgorgement. Beautiful nose of honey, apple, brioche, and hazelnuts, with the nutty aromas conveying a richness rather than potential over-oxidation. Initially tasted almost too sharp due to acidity and honey sweetness. Really benefitted from some air and pairing with food which led to a more balanced flavor and allowed tertiary flavors to come out to balance the acidity and sweetness.

  • Begynner beskjedent men trer fram med luft. Mokka og kaffe. Friskt ditto kjøtt stikker innom men fordufter igjen. Sitronpreg opp i kinna. Lang.

  • Aromas of grapefruit and orange blossom. On the palate grapefruit peel, apricot and white pepper. Focused, but rather linear and not terribly involving. Very fresh though. Hopefully this will be better in a few more years. Not bad of course, but disappointing at this point in time.

  • Open nose with lime, golden apple and sea-buckthorn. Cream, almonds and aniseed.
Dry, medium bodied and linear palatal expression with zingy citrus and precise moussé. Lively and vibrant with minor nutty touch, some florality and mid-level autolytic breadth in the good length aftertaste.
Definitely good stuff with even better price. A complete showing.

  • I understood this was quite recently disgorged, which is easy to believe. Fresh and full of energy, obviously Blanc de Blancs and, if I may, very Mesnil. Linear, focused and long, showing an array of citrus fruits, white flowers and fresh apples along the way, with mere hints of creamy development. Fine acidid backbone, this should develop well too. Might not appeal to fans of rich autolytic champagnes, but for the rest of us this works very well.

Fortsatt litt ungdommelig preg.

  • 500 NOK.

  • Crisp Champagne very vibrant and fresh with intense nose persistent mousse and long finish and not lacking in elegance in the least. Color mirrored the wines freshness as it was a light lucent youthfull lemongreen. Aromas were mainly and intensely yeasty, like brioche, breadcrumbs etc but there was a solid core of crisp citrus fruit like lime and grpefruit together with quince and lactic (yoghourt) notes. A slight oxidative character only added to the complexity. Mousse was persistent - almost agressive, palate bone dry, acidity sky high and finish is long and mouthcleansing. Still a very young Champagne yet very enjoyable.

  • Disgorged 3/2011.

Elegant, classic nose of clean chalky minerality, bread dough, cardamom and fresh, ripe apple. A remarkably harmonious and deep nose really. The gentle yet precise mousse is very persistent and lively. The flavor profile offers green apples, citrus fruit and and delicious bread dough. The taste is bone dry and yet extremely well balanced and as mouthfillingly rich as a wine from Le Mesnil can be. Suberb acidity carries to a classy, long and harmonious finish, that leaves a perfectly clean and pleasing mouthfeel. This is really a wine in the 1995 Blanc des Millenaires mold and thus still a very young one. Kudos to the extremely long sur lie an expectional freshness remains and the wine drinks well below its years. An awesome pairing with sushi. Considering the overall quality and age this really is a great bargain at 47 €.

Boblene dør noe raskt i glasset.

  • Deg. 20th July 2010. Great champagne, very fresh, laser acidity, good complexity, rich fruit, citrus, yeast, mature apples, some vanilla. Liked it better than the -96.

  • Dark golden, very small bubbles. Yeast, spices, and honey on the nose. Really interesting wine - it remained us of frying granny smith apples in butter with brown sugar and cinnamon. Long finish of honey and a granny Smith apples. I agree with the ktrh, in that it lacked the last bit of precision - the only thing that stops it from going completely over the top for me. Definitely buy more.

  • Rich nice maturity, however still very fresh and vibrant (disgorged 2009). Lemon and bread dough (yeast), lots of minerality, chalk and flint. In the mouth very slim, initially dry, nice acidity, but lacks some precision in the end. Fairly good, I really love the minerality of this wine, aside from that it seems a bit anonymous.
