Women Who Wine & Their Arm Candy (Estelle, St. Paul, MN): Light gold color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes. Had this last about 10 month ago. This was fairly similar to that bottle. Showing some maturity, good weight and some broadness. The fruit seem a bit more golden with apple mainly and some citrus notes, ginger, brioche, nougat, and chalk minerality with the same oxidative character as before. Very good, no danger here. 92+pts.

-- popped and poured -- -- tasted non-blind over 1 to 1.5 hrs. --
Nice breadth and depth --- nothing earth-shattering or amazing, but undeniably excellent. Good acidity. Rich, but not too heavy -- some chewy breadiness. Showing some light-to-moderate aged character, but in no danger of rapid decline. Drink or Hold.

2008 top champagnes - horisontal wine tasting dinner (Rest MG (kg arr)): Second 2008 horisontal champagne half blind tasting dinner. First time June 2021. Back then the vintage was extremely youthful. How is it now? An almost unbelievable development in just 2 years. As a wine enthusiast I must simply surrender. I was skeptical about the drinkability at this point for this extreme vintage. That skepticism was proven wrong. 2008 can definitely be enjoyed now. For me, it's one of my really great tasting experiences. And there has certainly been many... Add to that, the vintage is only in its initial stage of maturation and therefore still youthful but extremely charming and open. I really look forward to tasting the 2008 vintage once a year in the coming many years experiencing the tertiary notes develop.
Notes of lemon, ripe apple. Still youthful. Rating based on performance right now 95+. Vintage 1996 clearly better than 2008 (see my note on that one)
After an hour the acid shows up and mixes well with the fruit. On the mature side, with an obvious touch of red apples. A good champagne, but I have had better 2008:s and the 1996 vintage of this champagne was also better.
I will keep my second bottle until 2028 or so and see what happens. 92-93 pts.

Bakst, marsipan, grapefrukt.

Siggy's btl tonight at the new Butcher & Boar Warehouse District w/ KB, VB, DM, SS & JS. While I totally dig R&L Legras's basic $35-$40 NV this cuvee has been mostly disappointing for my palate. Tonight's btl felt like it losing ground. A little ox on the nose & palate.

Butcher & The Boar Reincarnate (Butcher and the Boar, Mpls): Light gold color. Drank a glass over an hour. Very much oxidized notes intially, like a fino. I found it hard to really tell if it was a champagne or not served blind. After some hours it had developed to something much more beautiful and balanced. Too soon I'd say.

On the nose Apple and toast/brioche. On the palate also a good taste of honey, with a creamy feeling. Acid is crispy and a long and very good finish. Happy to have several bottles of this to see how it develops, and most likely improve, over the years to come

Deep gold colour. Small and medium lively bubbles. Pronounced and developing nose with ripe green apples, yellow apples, bread, brioche, mushroom and forest floor. Pronounced taste of toast, green apples, red apples, brioche and mushroom. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. An outstanding Vintage Champagne. Part of my WSET3 exam prep. Saturday Evening (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Light gold color. Drank a glass plus over an hour. Still quite youthful, oxidative, baked apple, ginger, lots of chalk minerality, citrus, a bit nutty, lots of dry extract. Give this a couple years ideally. 92+ to 93pts.

Too young, of course, but I had to try it young as well. The wine is dominated by quite ripe citrus (lemon, grape etc.) and has a chalky minerality. It also has some unripe apple as well as hints of butter and nuts but not much. The wine was very fresh and youthful.

Quite a different feeling between this bottle and the last one. The ripe and sweet citrus fruits dominate the wine: lots of sweet lemons, tangerines, oranges, kumquats, pink grapefruit; delicately mineral with wet stones and chalk; with some air some toasty notes appear: toasted nuts, butter cookies, maple syrup, orange plum cake, lemon curd, and some white chocolate; a hint of cocoa butter and mushrooms on the finish, and an oxidative, spiced touch with black pepper, clove, and fresh ginger. Over the past year, we've drunk three bottles of this same vintage, each one has offered a different experience (likely due to different disgorgement dates, although this producer doesn't specify them); in this case, we found a more interesting wine with an oxidative base and very heavily fruity. This is an interesting and gastronomic cuvée that we're always excited to revisit. 92pt

(Disgorged in September 2016, 100% Chardonnay from old vines in Partelaines in Chouilly, dosage 4 gr/l) Butter and cream at first and then opens up with some yellow apples and a touch of dark chocolate on the maturing nose. Oxidative yellow apples on the acidic palate at first and opens up with a smooth and creamy mid before the lengthy finish showing popcorn and lemon zest bitterness. This has evolved quicker than I expected and is already starting to show mature notes, but still need more time to integrate with the acidity.. (Best 2023-2038)

New Year's (Chicago, IL): "Isn't this a band?" For my palate, this was a little more acid-driven than I would have liked, as I found it lacking a bit of body and showing a little thin. A touch of tart apples and maybe some breadiness too.

Degorgert i 2015.
God underliggende struktur. Lang og tørr utgang. Nydelig balanse. Karakteristisk vin for Chouilly.

A champagne that you need to let breath and let warm up a bit in the glass. As initially it is really very tight and shows a lot of bitter extract which is not pleasing in my view. However this almost blows off entirely and morves into little powerhouse - sappy green apple, mineral, lemon oil. It is a total contrast to the brilliant NV grand cru which in my view is not necessarily inferior (maybe not as great but as one wise man once said “a great wine doesn’t have to be a good wine and a good wine doesn’t have to be great”). Also neck to neck I would give the 2012 VV Presidence the nod which I had the prior week. As for the St Vincent I would probably give it another 5 years in bottle... 91-92

Grilled lemon, almond skin, lamp oil, plantain, marzipan, and hints of pulverized wet granite. Carries a decent amount of speed, but exhibits a more mature and oxidized profile. Finishes medium and slightly simple flavor-wise, but with enough push to elongate the experience of verve and speed. Drink now. 91-92 points.
2008 Champagne horizontal (Medlar (London)): Blind identified as another non prestige cuvee pirate. Simple nose, a bit flinty. Was my 2nd least favourite of the night (Delamotte BdB 08 being the least favourite).

Brought this to Sushi Amane in NYC as a BYO to pair with the omakase. I've had the basic champagne from this producer which I really liked (esp for the price) and so was interested to see what some of the higher end ones are like. Unfortunately not detailed notes, but this was great. I remember thinking it was very interesting in part because of the more spicy herbal notes. More of the apple-style than the toast style. Very clean. Very drinkable. Will def keep buying as it is offered.

Served right after the Pierre Peters NV in a rather disappointing showing, this was a step up, indeed; intense, fresh, broad, buttery, fine acidity, carressing, creamy style.

91 poeng. For nå.

I first got turned on to this producer after having the “house” bubbly Brut and Rose at La Tour d`Argent in Paris many times and loving them. Finally, I asked the Chef de Cave, David Ridgway, who makes this for them and it was R&L Legras.
As an aside, the cellar at this restaurant is not to be missed. Obviously, it would be best to to do in person. Even if it is only to be viewed on YouTube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oftsAIccURU, [in French, but the pictures are the story]. They walled off a part of the cellar at the beginning of WW ll to salvage the most treasured wines when German occupation was imminent as reported in “Wine and War”.
Founded in the 16th century, Legras is one of the great names of Chouilly, the famous and most northerly village of the Côte de Blancs. This vintage was made in honour of the winegrowers’ Patron Saint since the 1964.
Tasting notes: the first hit was of bracing acidity which toned down after a bit; lemon zest, apple, pear and guava arrived first on the scene, but it was the fresh, ripe peach notes that commanded attention all the way to the back end; this is a big, rich bubbly that seems to expand with time and I`m deducing it would be prudent to cellar this vintage for many years before opening; mouthfeel is important to me and this exudes a creaminess that seriously tantalises my tactile sense; this is good serious, complex champagne that can hold its own in this category.
On day 1 and 2 this was a total wash. Just not coherent or expressive. Smells like lanolin, palate very muted with some phenolic notes. Day 3, finally some nice stone fruit apricot, peach, etc. Strong hold, just seems like far too early days for this.

So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodnight: A Night to Remember (Capitalle Grille, Mpls, MN): Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes plus.

Gourmetklubbens trettioandra middag (Södermalm,, Stockholm): (Disgorged in September 2016) This is still very youthful showing minerals, citrus, minerals and sulphur and flint. Palate is very youthful and dominated by citrus acidity right now, still a very long fresh and intense lemon peel finish that lasts forever. After a couple of hours in the glass it softened a bit and showed a hint of butterscotch. A bit too soon after degorgement, but I think this has lots of potential and in six to twelve months I'm guessing the score will go above the 90-mark.

Oxidative yellow apples on the acidic palate at first and opens up with a smooth and creamy mid before the lengthy finish showing popcorn and lemon zest bitterness. This has evolved quicker than I expected and is already starting to show mature notes, but still need more time to integrate with the acidity..

Very pale golden color. Bubbles rising very slowly to the surface in small numbers.
Nose give lots of brioche, lemon curd and sour/underripe apple.
Wonderful ripe stone fruit, ripe red apple, and lovely acidity level. Good dry finish with the citrus and some green apple hanging on the tongue.
May improve quite a bit with some more age, so will hide away my last bottle.
At $75 or so a bottle, I don’t know that I’m a continued buyer, but it’s certainly a well made champagne.

Perfumed nose of golden and red apples,, sweet dough, lime zest, chalk and mushrooms. Apples and ripe lime on the palate. Lonely balance. Long tickling finish. Held up even at day 3 without much movement. Very good for drinking now though. 93p +2-3p potential.

Still tight and very young, this is intense, vibrant, dense with true personality and depth; this is really a baby, it needs four-five years, I think - and will go on for longer. For now, you can enjoy the concentration and intensity.

Pineapple, ripe citrus, coconut, yoghurt, some caramel and brioche.
Medium/high acidity, medium body. Seems very young, probably a more recent disgorgement than my last bottle months ago, not as pleasant as that one.

Still sticking with my previous note. For me, this is a Champagne to pop now and over the short-term. In a decent window now. Still has some refreshing qualities along with some reductive elements.

Svavel, reduktiv, krut, fyrverkeri, lite gröna äpplen i bakgrunden

91 poeng. For nå.

2008 R&L LEGRAS SAINT VINCENT BLANC de BLANC BRUT

Strong hold, just seems like far too early days for this.

väldigt god och kommer säkert utveckas svinbra 90-92

Gourmetklubbens trettioandra middag (Södermalm,, Stockholm): (Disgorged in September 2016) This is still very youthful showing minerals, citrus, minerals and sulphur and flint. Palate is very youthful and dominated by citrus acidity right now, still a very long fresh and intense lemon peel finish that lasts forever. After a couple of hours in the glass it softened a bit and showed a hint of butterscotch. A bit too soon after degorgement, but I think this has lots of potential and in six to twelve months I'm guessing the score will go above the 90-mark.
